Aaron Cook has broken fibula, done for 2010
Cook
Aaron Cook has been diagnosed with a non-displaced right fibula fracture.
Cook was drilled by a Joey Votto comebacker in the fifth inning Wednesday and X-rays a about an hour revealed the break. He is likely to be shut down for the rest of the season. The 31-year-old righty turned in a 6-8 record, a 5.08 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP in 127 2/3 innings for the Rockies in 2010. Sep. 9 - 12:00 am et

Tulowitzki stays hot, hits two jacks in win
Tulowitzki
Troy Tulowitzki went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI in Wednesday's win over the Reds.
Tulowitzki and teammate Carlos Gonzalez are two of the hottest hitters on the planet. Tulo has five homers in his last six games and has driven in 13 RBI in his last eight games. It's a good reminder of why the massive shortstop was a first-round pick in many formats before the season. Sep. 8 - 11:48 pm et
B.J. Upton rips third homer in last four days
Upton
B.J. Upton hit his third home run in the last four days as the Rays lost to the Red Sox, 11-5, on Wednesday night.
B.J. has plenty of warts, but 20 homers and 45 steals are within reach. For a guy that went in the middle or later rounds of most drafts, it's a big season despite the .237 batting average. Upton's latest power surge proves how much upside the former No. 2 overall pick has. Sep. 8 - 10:47 pm et
Howard drives in six, Phillies maintain lead
Howard
Ryan Howard finished 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBI on Wednesday to lift his Phillies over the Marlins 10-6.
The Phillies took over first place in the National League East on Tuesday night and don't appear ready to hand it back. Howard hit a two-run single in the first inning, a three-run homer in the fourth and added an RBI base hit in seventh. He has 28 dingers and 95 RBI over 481 at-bats this season. Sep. 8 - 10:40 pm et
Reynolds back in D'Backs' lineup Wednesday
Reynolds
Mark Reynolds (hand) is back in the Diamondbacks' lineup Wednesday.
Reynolds suffered a swollen right hand during an at-bat on Sunday and sat out of both Monday and Tuesday's games. The third baseman is batting just .211 on the year but boasts 32 dingers and a healthy 83 RBI. Sep. 8 - 6:56 pm et

Posada has no concussion, cleared for play
Posada
Jorge Posada (head) has been cleared for competitive play.
The Yankees feared that Posada suffered a concussion on Tuesday night when he was hit in the head by a foul tip, but tests run Wednesday came back negative. He is listed as day-to-day and should be back behind the plate by the weekend. Francisco Cervelli filled in on Wednesday afternoon. Sep. 8 - 5:56 pm et

Hamilton plays catch, return still up in air
Hamilton
Josh Hamilton (ribs) played a light game of catch Wednesday.
Progress is progress? Hamilton has been sidelined by rib, back and knee injuries since Saturday and is not expected to return to the Rangers' lineup before the weekend. Julio Borbon played center field on Tuesday, but David Murhpy should also get some looks in Hamilton's absence. Sep. 8 - 5:38 pm et

Josh Johnson could be done for rest of 2010
Johnson
According to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro, right-hander Josh Johnson "may be done for the season" due to back and shoulder problems.
Johnson flew to south Florida on Wednesday to have his back and shoulder examined by the Marlins' medical staff. If any sort of structural damage is revealed, he will almost certainly be shut down. "We have to make sure that JJ is ok, not only for the time being, but we have to make sure that his career is not in jeopardy," interim manager Edwin Rodriguez said. Sep. 8 - 5:17 pm et

Cubs expected to interview Sandberg soon
Marmol
According to Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago, the Cubs are expected to interview Ryne Sandberg for their managerial opening in the next 10 days.
Former Indians manager Eric Wedge has already been interviewed and the Cubs are also expected to meet with former Marlins skipper Fredi Gonzalez. Sandberg, at least in our eyes, remains the favorite to land the gig. He's put in his time at Triple-A Iowa and is well-liked around the game of baseball. Sep. 8 - 4:49 pm et
