Report: Jags' Groves involved in hit-and-run
According to First Coast News, Jaguars DE/OLB Quentin Groves is accused by a motorist of being involved in a hit-and-run car crash on Friday.
Groves allegedly hit two cars with his Escalade before fleeing the scene, explaining that he "was a Jaguar and had a plane to catch." One of the cars was wedged underneath Groves' vehicle. Another driver reportedly witnessed the crash and wedged in Groves until police arrived. However, police then drove Groves to his plane and gave him a mere warning for improper lane change. "It seems like they get a different justice than the rest of us would," said Robyn Jackett, the father of one of the injured drivers. His son was hospitalized with back and arm pain. Jackett's car was totaled.

S-Jax case closed due to lack of evidence
Las Vegas police cited a lack of evidence in closing the assault case against Steven Jackson brought on by allegations from his former girlfriend.
Detectives talked to all parties involved after Jackson was accused of beating his then-pregnant girlfriend, who is now the mother of his young son. With insufficient evidence, the investigation is complete and the case closed. Jackson, who had vigorously denied the accusations, is not expected to be punished by the league.

Peppers doesn't want extension with Panthers
During a radio interview that aired Tuesday morning, Julius Peppers said he doesn't want a long-term extension from the Panthers.
Panthers beat writer Darin Gantt says "it's becoming more and more clear that Peppers isn't going to be here next year." Peppers is upset that the Panthers are giving him and his agent the "silent treatment." Gantt suggests that the Panthers should put the franchise tag on Peppers with designs on trading him. The Eagles, Patriots and Falcons are rumored as possible landing spots.

Martz says TE Olsen will need to block first
New Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz said that Greg Olsen's first responsibility will be blocking.
"To just skip by [blocking] and say, 'He's a terrific receiver,' well...you might as well just put another wide receiver in there," Martz said. This highlights Martz's attitude toward tight ends. No matter how good a receiver Olsen is, Martz sees him as primarily a blocker. No Martz TE has ever caught more than 38 passes and Olsen's outlook has taken a gigantic hit heading into 2010.

Hester will move to slot, play fewer snaps?
New Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz said that he envisions Devin Hester moving to the slot and playing reduced snaps on offense.
Martz sees Hester going back to his role as a full-time returner. "It would be very difficult for him to play every snap on offense and still play effectively on special teams," Martz said. Hester would play the slot role that Az Hakim did for Martz's Rams and it's worth noting that Hakim never caught more than 53 passes in a season. Downgrade Hester's outlook for 2010.

Giants S Phillips says he's ahead of schedule
Giants SS Kenny Phillips says he is ahead of schedule in his recovery from September microfracture surgery.
Dr. James Andrews, Phillips' surgeon, and the Giants' club physician agree that Phillips' recovery has gone well so far. However, he's only just began running in a pool and hasn't been cleared to jog on land yet. He won't begin doing so until March 29, exactly six months after the operation. It's going to be hard for the Giants to count on Phillips as they approach the offseason.

Browns cut ties with WR Donte' Stallworth
Browns released WR Donte' Stallworth.
He didn't last 24 hours on the offseason roster after being reinstated from his one-year suspension Monday morning. Stallworth is still only 29, but was completely ineffective the last time he played, catching just 17 balls for 170 yards and a single touchdown in 11 games opposite Braylon Edwards in 2008. He'll be lucky to get more than a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum, and is a long shot to ever reappear on the fantasy radar again.

Manning throws for 333 yards as Colts fall
Peyton Manning completed 31-of-45 passes for 333 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in the Colts' Super Bowl loss.
The Colts were out-coached and Manning was outplayed by Drew Brees. Manning's pick six to Tracy Porter was the nail in the coffin. Manning turns 34 next month, but will return as a top-five fantasy quarterback in 2010 with several weapons still in their development phase. The Colts plan to make Manning the highest paid player in the league this offseason.

Brees the MVP as Saints win Super Bowl XLIV
Drew Brees completed 32-of-39 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns as the Saints won Super Bowl XLIV, 31-17 over Indianapolis.
After a sluggish start, Brees was nearly perfect for the final three quarters. Though the Saints never got the deep ball working, Brees picked apart the Colts' secondary underneath, was highly efficient in the red zone, and the Saints relied heavily on the pass. They called 39 pass plays compared to 18 runs. Brees is expected to receive a large raise this offseason. He'll return as a shoe-in top-three fantasy quarterback next season.

Seahawks LT Jones retiring after 13 seasons?
Seahawks LT Walter Jones announced on Twitter Sunday that he is retiring from football.
It's worth noting that Jones is known as something of a jokester, so we're not sure he's being for real. Still, a slew of knee and back issues have caught up to Jones, who turned 36 last month and was unable to play last season. A nine-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro first-teamer, Jones started every single game he appeared in during his 13-year career. He was perhaps the best left tackle (Orlando Pace was right there too) during the early- to mid-2000s, protecting Matt Hasselbeck's blind side and blocking for Shaun Alexander. Jones will make the Hall of Fame.
