Report: Seahawks shopping RT Sean Locklear
ESPN's John Clayton reports that the Seahawks have placed RT Sean Locklear on the trade block.
Clayton says Locklear "isn't expected to be around by opening day," so it sounds like he'll be released if Seattle can't find a taker. Due $5.45 million in 2010, that's what's going to happen if Clayton's story is correct. He struggled in the preseason and Seattle is completely making over its roster, so the only outcome here that would surprise us would be Locklear starting Week 1. Sep. 5 - 11:03 pm et

Report: Revis, Rex Ryan met over the weekend
Revis
The NY Daily News' Manish Mehta reports that Jets coach Rex Ryan met with Darrelle Revis in Florida over the weekend.
Mehta cautions that there's "no resolution yet," but confirms the "lines of communication (are) open." The Jets do have an extra day to get Revis back into hitting drills on the practice field, because they play Monday night against the Ravens. Ideally, they'd get him under contract by Wednesday. We're not saying it's likely, but it certainly looks more realistic now. Sep. 5 - 10:25 pm et

Housh expected to pick from Skins, Raiders
Houshmandzadeh
The Seattle Times reports that free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh is expected to sign with either the Redskins or the Raiders.
The Times cites "a source who had spoken with him." The decision is easy -- Houshmandzadeh should sign with the Skins, even if the Raiders offer more money this year (he's getting a $7 million baseline regardless). On top of a better chance to win, playing with Donovan McNabb alongside Chris Cooley and Santana Moss in a Mike Shanahan offense would give Housh his best chance to put up numbers. He could parlay that into a contract for 2011. Sep. 5 - 10:07 pm et

Harvin to start at receiver AND return kicks
Harvin
Percy Harvin confirmed that he will retain primary kick return duties this season, in addition to being the Vikings' full-time flanker.
He's going to be a monster in return-yardage fantasy leagues. On Sunday, coach Brad Childress wouldn't even rule out Harvin returning some punts during the season in special situations. Behind Adrian Peterson, no player in Minnesota is going to touch the ball as frequently as Percy Harvin. Sep. 5 - 7:08 pm et

Texans to pursue Leinart as Schaub's backup
Leinart
The Houston Chronicle's John McClain confirms that the Texans intend to pursue free agent Matt Leinart.
At least someone wants him. McClain calls Dan Orlovsky "still the backup," but Orlovsky's preseason left a lot to be desired, and the coaching staff doesn't trust him. After Sunday's roster moves, the Texans have one roster spot left. It could go to Leinart or his successor at USC, John David Booty. Upper management would probably prefer the former No. 10 overall pick. Sep. 5 - 6:50 pm et

Report: Fins to bench starting CB Sean Smith
Smith
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Dolphins will bench RCB Sean Smith for Jason Allen in Week 1.
Though it's another disappointment for Smith following a poor preseason and camp, the move may be strategic. The Fins realize that Week 1 opponent Buffalo poses little threat in the passing game, so they can get away with using an inferior option on the corner while also sending Smith a message. Look for Vontae Davis to shadow Lee Evans wherever he goes next Sunday. Sep. 5 - 5:19 pm et

Seahawks release plodding RB Julius Jones
Jones
Seahawks released RB Julius Jones.
The 29-year-old's release prevents Seattle from having to drop $2.45 million on a third-string tailback. We've finally got some clarity in the backfield. Justin Forsett will be the starter, rotating probably about evenly with Leon Washington (who will also return kicks and punts). The Seahawks' offense still projects to be among the league's least productive, so expectations should be limited. But Forsett is a stronger RB3 now in PPR leagues. Sep. 5 - 4:30 pm et

Dolphins place nickel back Will Allen on I.R.
Dolphins placed CB Will Allen (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
It's another big blow to a secondary that's gone from one of the league's strongest down the stretch of 2009 to one of the most in flux. The Fins have major concerns about RCB Sean Smith after an awful camp, and Allen would've been the best alternative should Smith have needed to be benched. Allen, 32, had what was believed to be a routine knee scope in early August. Due a $5.5 million salary in 2011, he's likely done as a Dolphin. Sep. 5 - 3:25 pm et

Report: V-Jax, unnamed team had deal in place
Jackson
Profootballtalk.com reports that unsigned restricted free agent Vincent Jackson had a one-year contract worked out with an unnamed team Saturday, but the deal was scuttled when the sides couldn't agree on trade terms.
It was probably either the Rams or the Seahawks -- most likely St. Louis. The Rams were widely reported to have renewed their interest in Jackson rather suddenly on Saturday, before reports confirmed they'd given up on the idea roughly an hour later. Jackson is now ineligible to play before Week 7. Perhaps St. Louis or Seattle will try to make another play for V-Jax thereafter. Sep. 5 - 3:14 pm et
