 MarQueis Gray - QBJan. 23 - 12:30 pm et
Minnesota has hired Jeff Horton as the new offensive coordinator. Horton replaces Jedd Fisch, who decided to take a job with the Seattle Seahawks.
Horton spent 2009 working with Matthew Stafford as quarterback coach for the Detroit Lions, and he brings a good deal of collegiate coaching experience. However don't expect a complete overhaul of the Gopher offense, as the new coach will adapt to the system already in place.

 MarQueis Gray - QBJan. 19 - 8:00 pm et
Minnesota could lose offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch to the Seattle Seahawks.
Even though the Gophers have been to back-to-back bowl games, the coaching situation seems tenuous at best.

 Shady Salamon - RBJan. 13 - 6:30 pm et
Minnesota running back Shady Salamon was cited for underage drinking on Jan. 8.  Salamon was with Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd, whom we earlier reported was also cited for underage drinking following a house party gone bad.
There has been no word on punishment for Salamon or Floyd.

 Kevin Whaley - RBJan. 6 - 11:00 pm et
Minnesota redshirt freshman running back Kevin Whaley asked to be released from his scholarship and Tim Brewster obliged his request.
Whaley was suspended indefinitely by Brewster following the running back's arrest for assault on New Years Eve (the night of the team's loss in the Insight Bowl) in Scottsdale.  The parties decided to part ways, and Minnesota loses a talented back that couldn't seem to stay out of trouble.

 MarQueis Gray - QBJan. 1 - 12:15 pm et
Even though he had a key fumble late, Minnesota MarQueis Gray showed flashes as a quarterback, runner and wide receiver in the Insight Bowl loss to Iowa State.
Look for Gray to push Adam Weber for the starting quarterback job, and even if he does finish second in that race there's no doubt that Gray will play a prominent role in the offensive attack. And he'll be an interesting option in 2010 Big Ten fantasy football.

 MarQueis Gray - QBDec. 18 - 10:15 am et
Minnesota quarterback MarQueis Gray is expected to see increased playing time at both wide receiver and quarterback in the Insight Bowl against Iowa State.  "We're going to try to wear him out pretty good," Brewster said of Gray. "He's going to play a whole bunch."
At quarterback, Gray is not much of a fantasy option, but he will be interesting to watch.  With Adam Weber only a junior, a position switch could be coming.

 Adam Weber - QBDec. 18 - 10:15 am et
Minnesota coach Tim Brewster's seat is getting awfully warm.  Jim Souhan of the Star Tribune breaks down his failed recruiting strategy and the growing rift between Brewster and athletic director Joel Maturi.
One tell tale sign that all is not well in Minneapolis was Maturi's comments when Brewster was being linked as a candidate for the Kansas job, saying he was "getting tired of all the Kansas calls"  and that he "can't guarantee" Brewster would be back next year.  His comments hinted at indifference over whether Brewster stayed or left.

 Kevin Whaley - RBNov. 18 - 5:30 pm et
The Pioneer Press makes a good case that Kevin Whaley is slowly becoming Minnesota's number one running back.   Since Week Four against Northwestern Whaley has more carries (60) than Duane Bennett (43) and DeLeon Eskridge (38).
Bennett has been unable to grab the bull by the horns and lock down the position, leaving a crack for Whaley to slither through.  Whether or not he can separate himself from the pack remains to be seen.

 Nick Tow-Arnett - TENov. 12 - 2:00 pm et
Minnesota reserve defensive back Nathan Tow-Arnett is a suspect in an assault case that happened on Halloween night.  Jeff has not been arrested or charged.
Jeff is the younger brother of Minnesota tight end Nick Tow-Arnett and center Jeff Tow-Arnett.  Jeff is working his way back from a knee injury.  Fantasy owners of Nick can breathe easy, all seems to be well with him.

 Nick Tow-Arnett - TENov. 5 - 2:00 am et
Minnesota tight end Nick Tow-Arnett was dinged in the win over Michigan State, but the reports he should play against Illinois on Saturday.
Tow-Arnett has emerged as one of the top tight end targets in the Big Ten.

 Eric Decker - WRNov. 2 - 3:00 pm et
Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker will have surgery on Wednesday to to repair torn ligaments in his left foot.
The surgery will effectively eliminate Decker's chance to return for a bowl game.  Decker will finish his career with an astounding 227 receptions for 3119 yards and 24 touchdowns.  Decker also has one rushing and two passing touchdowns.

 Adam Weber - QBNov. 1 - 12:15 am et
Minnesota quarterback Adam Weber threw for 416 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Michigan State on Saturday.
With Eric Decker out for the year and MarQueis Gray breathing down his neck, I'm not sure many people saw this coming... let alone the Spartans.

 Eric Decker - WROct. 27 - 6:45 pm et
Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker  has been ruled out for the rest of the regular season due to a sprained arch in his foot.  Coach Tim Brewster hopes to have Decker back for a bowl game, but he also may need surgery.
This is a big blow for the Gophers' offense.  They'll need to come up with a new game plan this week against Michigan State, which could involve utilizing athletic quarterback MarQueis Gray more.

 Eric Decker - WROct. 26 - 3:30 pm et
Minnesota coach Tim Brewster says wide receiver Eric Decker is day-to-day with a sprained foot.  However, Brewster doesn't sound confident Decker will be ready for Michigan State on Saturday. "Again, a sprained foot, for a receiver, I don't know how that's going to be to recover from," Weber said.  "It's tough to have to stick your foot in the ground, do the things wide receivers have to do."
At this point we would consider Decker highly questionable.  Don't be surprised if the Gophers center their game plan around the athletic quarterback MarQueis Gray this weekend.

 Adam Weber - QBOct. 26 - 3:30 pm et
Minnesota coach Tim Brewster said that Adam Weber will remain the starting quarterback but that MarQueis Gray will see time under center against Michigan State.
Gray is a dual-threat athlete and with the Gophers looking for a spark on offense, we would not be shocked to see him play a significant amount against the Spartans.  Gray is one to keep an eye on for future fantasy potential.

 Eric Decker - WROct. 25 - 7:00 pm et
Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker (sprained foot) left Columbus on crutches, and his status for next Saturday night's game with Michigan State is unknown.
Decker is the straw that stirs the Gopher drink, and his absence would leave a big void in the passing attack.

 MarQueis Gray - QBOct. 25 - 12:15 am et
Minnesota back up quarterback MarQueis Gray rushed for 81 yards while completing five of six passes for a touchdown in the loss to Ohio State.
Gray got the most work he's seen all year, and you have to wonder when Minnesota is going to give him a chance to run the anemic Gopher offense.

 Eric Decker - WROct. 25 - 12:15 am et
Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker left the game against Ohio State with an ankle injury in the first quarter.
Decker tried to re-tape the ankle early in the quarter but was unable to stay in the game.  He had three catches for 27 yards before his exit.

 Eric Decker - WROct. 17 - 11:30 pm et
Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker was held to just one catch for 42 yards at Penn State on Saturday.
The weather could be used as an excuse, but it didn't bother Penn State's defense.  Minnesota was held to just 138 yards as a team.

 Eric Decker - WROct. 17 - 6:00 am et
Six inches of snow has forced Penn State officials to close tailgating before Saturday's game against Minnesota.
While the snow is expected to lighten up by kickoff, it could make for a slick and sloppy track.  The crowd might be a little more subdued as well as the Yuengling consumption will be down.
