 Chad Spann - RBDec. 7 - 10:45 am et
South Florida will take on Northern Illinois in the International Bowl in Toronto on Jan. 2 at noon.
USF quarterback B.J. Daniels is coming off a three touchdown game against UConn and will look for a repeat performance against the Huskies.  On the other side, Husky running back Chad Spann looks to extend his streak of games with at least one rushing touchdown to seven.

 Chandler Harnish - QBNov. 22 - 9:45 am et
Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to Ohio.
Harnish also rushed for 41 yards to lead the Huskies, while being intercepted once.  It's a bad loss, and while the numbers are good for fantasy owners, NIU was clearly a better team when they relied on the run.  Chad Spann had just 32 yards tonight (and two touchdowns.)   Consider both risky options for week 13.

 Chad Spann - RBNov. 18 - 5:15 pm et
Northern Illinois running back Chad Spann missed practice on Tuesday due to a shoulder injury. Fellow running back Me'co Brown is also dealing with an ankle injury.
Coach Jerry Kill is hopeful that both will be able to play this Saturday against Ohio.  But this is playoff time and not a time to take the risk unless your options are thin.

 Chad Spann - RBNov. 12 - 10:30 pm et
Northern Illinois running back Chad Spann was held to 63 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries tonight against Ball State.
Definitely a letdown for Spann owners, as we was coming off a monster 11-174-2 effort against Eastern Michigan.  NIU was largely ineffective in all phases of their offense tonight, and hope to bounce back against Ohio next time out.

 Chandler Harnish - QBNov. 12 - 10:30 pm et
While DeMarcus Grady started at QB for Northern Illinois this evening, Chandler Harnish returned to action in the second half of a victory against Ball State.
Grady went 4-of-5 for just 31 yards, a touchdown and an interception.  Harnish was a perfect 9-of-9 for 60 yards and a score.  Add that up and its a 13-of-14, 91 yard evening for the Husky QBs.  Grady had rushed for over 100 yards in back-to-back contests coming in, but was held to 22 tonight.  The running game is NIU's butter, so maybe a more pure passer in Harnish is the answer moving foward, but the bottom line is stay far, far away from NIU QBs.

 Chandler Harnish - QBNov. 11 - 7:30 pm et
Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish (knee) is back at practice and will be a game-time decision versus Ball State.
The Wolfpack butter their bread with the ground game and running backs Chad Spann and Me'co Brown.  Look for that to continue against a struggling Ball State team.

 DeMarcus Grady - QBNov. 6 - 12:00 am et
Northern Illinois quarterback DeMarcus Grady threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in tonight's romp of Eastern Michigan.
Grady had 104 yards on just ten carries, and completed four of his five attempts for 119 yards and an interception.  That's back-to-back 100 yard rushing games for the QB.  Northern Illinois scored on the opening kickoff, Grady's first pass attempt and RB Chad Spann's first two carries against Eastern Michigan's 103rd ranked defense.  Next week's 82nd ranked defense at Ball State doesn't figure to offer much more resistence.

 Chad Spann - RBNov. 5 - 11:45 pm et
Northern Illinois running back Chad Spann carried 11 times for 174 yards and two touchdowns in tonight's blowout win over Eastern Michigan.
Spann scored on his first two carries, from 65 and 79 yards out before allowing others to get in on the action.  Thats 455 yards and six touchdowns in the past three weeks, and next week's opponent Ball State doesn't figure to slow him down.  Start him with confidence again.

 Chad Spann - RBNov. 1 - 12:00 am et
Northern Illinois running back Chad Spann ran 21 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns in a victory over Akron.
Spann carried the load as Me'co Brown only gained 13 yards on ten tries. Quarterback DeMarcus Grady added 109 yards on 20 rushes. All three look like solid options in Thursday's contest against lowly Eastern Michigan.

 Chad Spann - RBOct. 29 - 12:45 pm et
"Any time you play two running backs like we do, there will be outings where one is going to get yards and the other one may not," Northern Illinois coach Jerry Kill said. "There have been outings where Me'co (Brown) has had 130 or 140 and Chad (Spann) hasn't gotten as many. The way it works out is Chad might have had a seam in there that Me'co didn't. That happens. As long as we're able to run the ball, it doesn't really matter."
Translation:  It is difficult to determine which NIU back is going to go off on any given week.  Right now Chad Spann seems like the better choice of the two, but that could change next week.

 Chandler Harnish - QBOct. 29 - 12:45 pm et
Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish (knee) is questionable for Saturday's game versus Akron.  Coach Jerry Kill says Harnish may be able to play this week, however.
If Harnish is unable to go then DeMarcus Grady will line up under center for the Huskies.

 Marcus Lewis - WRApr. 23 - 8:00 pm et
Northern Illinois senior wide receiver Marcus Lewis has had a very nice spring, telling John Sahly of Huskie Wire that he's thriving due to the team's increased reliance on him.
A senior that is coming off a one-catch season will likely not serve as much of a fantasy factor, but it's a slow news day.

 Matt Simon - WRJun. 18 - 9:36 pm et
Northern Illinois' Matt Simon is our 75th rated fantasy wide receiver for the 2008 season.
A fantasy wide out from Northern Illinios...yeah we are bit skeptical as well. However, numbers don't lie and as much as we want to try to manipulate them Simon ends up in our top 100. If he can punch in a few more touchdowns in 2008 he could even crack the top 60.
 Justin Anderson - RBDec. 13 - 11:30 am et
Southern Illinois head coach Jerry Kill will take over the head coaching job at Northern Illinois
While with the Salukis, Kill was 55-32 in seven seasons and won the Eddie Robinson Award as the coach of the year in then Division I-AA.

 Justin Anderson - RBNov. 10 - 10:32 pm et
Northern Illinois running back Justin Anderson carried 19 times for 98 yards and one touchdown in a victory over Kent State.
Anderson added a receiving score as he eclipsed the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the season. Anderson will need another big week for the Huskies to hang with Navy in week 12.
 Justin Anderson - RBOct. 21 - 10:16 am et
Northern Illinois running back Justin Anderson was held to nine total yards in Saturday's loss to Wisconsin.
Anderson has had a very good sophomore season with the exception of matchups with Big 10 schools. His previous low yardage total was in week one against Iowa. Anderson has topped 150 total yards in every other week and will remain a good fantasy start.
 Matt Simon - WRSep. 29 - 6:08 pm et
Northern Illinois wide receiver Matt Simon caught 9 balls for 205 yards and one touchdown.
It's a wonder how a team can have a receiver catch for 205 yards and only score ten points. Simon is a solid receiving option in MAC leagues.

 Montell Clanton - RBSep. 9 - 11:08 am et
Huskies running back Montell Clanton could be lost for the year with a torn ACL.
Justin Anderson is the most likely candidate to replace Clanton.

 Garrett Wolfe - RBDec. 19 - 11:21 pm et
Garrett Wolfe was held to just 28 yards on 20 carries in Tuesday's Poinsettia Bowl loss.
Wolfe was a victim of NIU's inability to throw the ball. He is going to play in the Senior Bowl and should be a mid-round draft pick in the NFL draft. He finishes the 2006 season with 1,928 rushing yards.
 Dan Nicholson - QBDec. 19 - 9:14 pm et
Dan Nicholson returned to the game after sitting out one play and abruptly threw an incomplete pass on third down.
