New Mexico quarterback Donovan Porterie had 316 yards and two touchdowns on 30 of 56 passing in the Lobos' loss to Texas Tech.

 Donovan Porterie - QBSep. 6 - 1:15 pm et
New Mexico senior quarterback Donovan Porterie was back in action Saturday after a knee injury and subesquent surgery knocked him out of the majority of the 2008 football season.  Perterie was 29 of 40 for 210 yards in Saturday's loss to Texas A&M.
Porterie and the Lobos struggled to score in the game and did not get a touchdown in the opening round for the fourth straight year.  Don't expect any offensive firepower this season for New Mexico if the Lobos continue to play as they did on Saturday.

Exiting spring ball New Mexico is still undecided at quarterback, with this battle beinge waged between Donovan Porterie, Brad Gruner and Tate Smith.
Porterie was a two year starter before being injured against Tulsa last year. But the Lobos' new spread option offense may suit the more mobile Gruner and walk-on Tate better.

 A.J. Butler - RBApr. 22 - 8:45 am et
Redshirt freshman tailback for the New Mexico Lobos A.J. Butler controlled UNM's ground attack in last Saturday's Cherry-White spring game, leading all rushers with 19 carries for 110 yards.
New head coach Mike Locksley notes that Butler has looked solid throughout this spring, and after a powerful performance Saturday, appears to have made a strong argument for taking over the starting role at running back heading into fall.

 Brad Gruner - QBApr. 19 - 9:15 pm et
Brad Gruner, back up for Donovan Porterie at quarterback for the New Mexico Lobos, went six-of-10 for 84 yards in Saturday's spring game, but left the contest after suffering a hard hit to the head.
New head coach of the Lobos Mike Locksley told Go Lobos.com that Gruner "took a shot" and "was out on his feet" after failing to pitch the ball on an option play. Gruner's injury subsequently gave Tate Smith additional snaps in Saturday's contest and may have moved Smith up higher on the UNM depth chart at quarterback.

 Donovan Porterie - QBApr. 19 - 9:15 pm et
New Mexico quarterback Donovan Porterie impressed in Saturday's spring game, throwing 15-of-24 on the day for 125 yards and three touchdowns.
Tate Smith made a solid showing for the Lobos under center as well. But with Porterie showing no rust coming off knee surgery on Saturday, expect that the senior will continue to keep hold on the starting spot at quarterback for the foreseeable future.

 Tate Smith - QBApr. 19 - 9:15 pm et
Tate Smith finished Saturday's spring game at quarterback for New Mexico with 152 yards and a touchdown on eight-of-17 passing.
Go Lobos.com comments that Smith "probably moved up in the QB race" with his performance Saturday. Still, expect he'll have an uphill fight to unseat Donovan Porterie who went 15-of-24 for 125 yards and three touchdowns in the same game.

 Roland Bruno - WRApr. 19 - 9:15 pm et
New Mexico senior wideout Roland Bruno topped all receivers in Saturday's spring game, grabbing five catches for 72 yards and a score on the day.
A former walk-on, Bruno proved one of the biggest surprises for the Lobos last season, grabbing 24 catches for 242 yards. The Beaumont, Texas native could not find the end zone in 2008, however, thus discouraging fantasy owners from taking a closer look.

 Rodney Ferguson - RBNov. 18 - 7:45 am et
Rocky Long has stepped down after 11 years as New Mexico's head coach.
The well-respected coach doesn't believe he can bring the squad to a championship, so he's moving on.

 Rodney Ferguson - RBNov. 2 - 1:30 am et
Utah proved that it has one of the better rush defenses in the nation tonight, holding senior running back Rodney Ferguson to just 34 yards on 14 carries (one touchdown) in a close 13-10 win for the Utes on the road in Albuquerque.
It was the worst ground production of the season for Ferguson, but the senior did manage to take one pass reception for 47 yards for the game as well.

 Rodney Ferguson - RBOct. 19 - 12:45 pm et
New Mexico running back Rodney Ferguson rushed 25 times for 149 yards and four touchdowns as the Lobos romped over San Diego State.
Ferguson has made a strong comeback since returning from a shoulder injury suffered in week five. He is a must-start in all remaining games except against Utah in week ten.
 Brad Gruner - QBOct. 12 - 12:15 am et
It was a two-man affair under center for the New Mexico Lobos this afternoon against the Brigham Young Cougars, with freshman Brad Gruner and sophomore Tate Smith splitting snaps at quarterback in a 21-3 loss to their MWC opponent.
Even with two players rotating at the quarterback position, UNM couldn't get anything going offensively; Gruner ended the game 8-of-12 for 86 yards throwing, while Smith, playing in just his second collegiate game for the Lobos, hit 5-of-10 for 58 yards and an interception.

 Rodney Ferguson - RBOct. 12 - 12:15 am et
Senior tailback for the New Mexico Lobos, Rodney Ferguson, returned to the playing field today against BYU, this after having sustained a shoulder injury against New Mexico State a couple of weeks ago and missed last week's game versus Wyoming.
Ferguson had a solid 25 carries to his name today, but couldn't crack the century mark, accumulating 86 yards total rushing against the Cougars.

All of the reports are adding up that running back Rodney Ferguson (shoulder) will play this week against BYU.
It has been assumed that Ferguson was held out last week because...well...they were facing Idaho. But this pretty much confirms it. The news is good, but you still may want to excersise caution this week.

 Rodney Ferguson - RBOct. 9 - 12:15 am et
Bruising running back Rodney Ferguson is expected to return to the Lobos lineup this week against BYU.
We 'think' he will play. But is he a good start against BYU and with two other running backs running well? Weigh your options carefully.

 Rodney Ferguson - RBOct. 5 - 12:15 pm et
Running back Rodney Ferguson sat out Saturday's contest against Wyoming because of his bruised shoulder.
Ferguson was replaced by James Wright and Paul Baker who combined for over 200 yards rushing. No word on when Ferguson will return.
 Rodney Ferguson - RBSep. 28 - 10:45 pm et
The early report on Rodney Ferguson's shoulder is it is just a bruise and he should be ready to go next week against Wyoming.
Keep an eye on this one as Ferguson is obviously not 100%. Even if he does go, you'll probably need to knock him down a peg or two in your weekly rankings.

 Donovan Porterie - QBSep. 22 - 12:00 am et
New Mexico starting quarterback Donovan Porterie will miss the rest of the year with a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.
Brad Gruner will likely replace Porterie. More importantly, look for Rodney Ferguson to see even more carries.
