 Jordan Brown - 1BNov. 20 - 11:03 am et
Indians purchased the contracts of 1B Jordan Brown, OF Nick Weglarz, INF Jason Donald, RHP Jeanmar Gomez, LHP Kelvin De La Cruz, 3B Wes Hodges and SS Carlos Rivero.
All seven players are now on the 40-man roster and thus protected from the Rule 5 Draft. Brown, 25, hit .336/.381/.532 this season with 15 homers and 67 RBI in 417 at-bats at Triple-A Columbus.
 Jamey Carroll - 2BNov. 18 - 6:42 pm et
The Marlins are interested in signing Jamey Carroll, according to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com.
Carroll's agent, Jonathan Maurer, said that the Marlins have not been quite as aggressive yet as some other teams. Previous reports had the Dodgers and Athletics specifically interested, with a handful of other teams showing some level of interest in the 35-year-old utility man. Carroll batted .276/.355/.340 with two homers, 26 RBI and 53 runs scored in 93 games with the Indians in 2009. He earned $2.5 million in 2009.

 Kerry Wood - RNov. 12 - 2:10 pm et
Buster Olney of ESPN.com writes that the Indians are willing to listen to offers on Kerry Wood.
And why wouldn't they? Again, Olney reminds of the closer-rich market this winter, so it will be challenging to trade him without eating a large portion of his contract. The 32-year-old right-hander is owed is owed $10.5 million for 2010. He also has an $11 million vesting option for 2011 if he finishes 55 games in 2010, but he didn't come close to that mark in 2009.

Price names the Dodgers and Athletics specifically, but notes that at least seven other teams have shown some interest in the 35-year-old utility man.  Matt McBride - CNov. 8 - 12:44 am et
Indians prospect catcher Matt McBride hit an eighth inning go-ahead two-run homer as the West team defeated the East team 8-7 in the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars Game on Saturday night.
The West team actually trailed 7-0 before even getting a chance to bat, but they slowly chipped away at the East's lead while eight pitchers combined for 8 1/3 shutout innings. Two Reds prospects led the comeback, as Chris Heisey went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored while Yonder Alonso went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Nationals prospect Drew Storen entered the bottom of the eighth inning with a 7-6 lead for the East, but Padres prospect Lance Zawadzki singled and McBride delivered with the decisive pinch-hit two-run blast.
 Fausto Carmona - SNov. 6 - 10:20 am et
Indians hired Tim Belcher as pitching coach.
The Indians let Carl Willis go near the end of the regular season. Belcher, 48, is a former major league pitcher. He spent the last eight seasons in the Indians' organization as a special Assistant to baseball operations.
 Grady Sizemore - OFNov. 1 - 8:57 am et
Grady Sizemore is near 100 percent rehabilitated from elbow and hernia surgery.
The center-fielder is working out at the Indians' spring complex and should have no restrictions entering spring training. Sizemore battled injuries all year, finishing with a .788 OPS, his worst in full-time play. His line plus the injuries will ensure he drops down draft boards for 2010: don't let him get past you.

 Jake Westbrook - SNov. 1 - 8:54 am et
Jake Westbrook hopes to begin pitching in the Puerto Rican league in late November.
Westbrook missed the entirety of the 2009 season thanks to Tommy John surgery and resultant setbacks. The right-hander should be good to go by the time spring training rolls around and is entering the final year of a three-year, $33 million pact.

 Lance Berkman - 1BOct. 26 - 9:15 am et
Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports that Manny Acta turned down an offer to manage the Astros.
Acta was hired by the Indians on Sunday. The Astros reportedly offered him two years with an one-year option, while the Indians gave him three years plus an option. With Acta no longer an option, Red Sox bench coach Brad Mills and former Astros manager Phil Garner have become the favorites for the position.

 Grady Sizemore - OFOct. 25 - 2:55 pm et
According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, Manny Acta is set to become the Indians' next manager.
He was handed a three-year contract with a club option for 2013. The Indians did their due diligence, hosting interviews with Angels bench coach Ron Roenicke, Dodgers hitting coach Don Mattingly and Bobby Valentine. But clearly they were most impressed by Acta, the former Nationals skipper. He has a 158-252 career managerial record and was also courted by the Astros.

 Luis Valbuena - 2BOct. 25 - 9:01 am et
Luis Valbuena may be in a platoon with Jason Donald to open up 2010, according to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Valbuena hit just .250 with a .298 OBP on the season, but that came with 10 dingers in 368 at-bats. He was impressive against right-handers that he enters spring training the odds-on favorite to start. With Valbuena's poor numbers against left-handers dating back to his minor league career, Jason Donald shouldn't have any difficulty wedging his way into a platoon.

Mike DiGiovanna of Los Angeles Times reports that the Indians have received permission to interview Angels bench coach Ron Roenicke about their managerial opening.
It's unclear when he will interview for the position, or if he has already been interviewed, since not all of the candidates names have been revealed. Roenicke, 52, has spent ten seasons on Mike Scioscia's staff -- six as the third base coach and the last four as bench coach. He joins Manny Acta, Bobby Valentine, Don Mattingly and Torey Lovullo under consideration for the position.

Shapiro has expressed a desire to have a manager in place by the end of the World Series, but is willing to wait until the right candidate emerges.

 Grady Sizemore - OFOct. 19 - 8:53 am et
According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Bobby Valentine is one of the finalists to be the Indians' next manager.
He is expected to come to Cleveland this week for a second interview. Along with Valentine, Manny Acta, who is also being considered for the Astros' job, and former third baseman Travis Fryman, who is managing the Indians' Class A Mahoning Valley team, are believed to be two of the Tribe's "three to five" finalists. It is believed that the Indians have also contacted Dodgers hitting coach Don Mattingly, but they may have to wait under the team's season is over to formally interview him. General manager Mark Shapiro has said that he would like to have a manager in place by the end of the World Series.

 Grady Sizemore - OFOct. 15 - 2:22 pm et
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, former Nationals manager Manny Acta is in the running for the Indians' open managerial position.
Acta has already engaged in a phone interview with Tribe GM Mark Shapiro and is ecstatic about the possibility of landing the gig. "I'm excited and honored to be part of this process," he said. "...I think things are going to be very exciting in Cleveland very soon. We are still very early in the process." Acta was fired from the Nats in July after going 158-252 over two-and-a-half seasons. He also has an interview scheduled with the Astros.

 Matt LaPorta - OFOct. 14 - 2:08 pm et
Matt LaPorta underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left hip and left big toe on Tuesday.
The hip surgery is expected to require 4-6 months of recovery time, which is likely to slow LaPorta down at the beginning of next season. We still expect him to be a mixed league factor in 2010, but odds are against him getting off to a fast start.

 Grady Sizemore - OFOct. 14 - 11:27 am et
Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell told the Cleveland Plain Dealer Wednesday that he is not interested in becoming the Indians' next manager.
"It's an honor to be considered for the job," Farrell said. "Especially for a team that I played for, my father played for and where there are so many people I know and respect. All those things considered, my desire is to fulfill the commitment between Boston and myself." There's some speculation that he's hoping to eventually take over for manager Terry Francona in Boston.
