 Aroldis Chapman - SNov. 21 - 12:25 pm et
Jorge Arangure of ESPN tweets that free agent Aroldis Chapman is now represented by Randy and Alan Hendricks.
Chapman's previous agent was Edwin Mejia of Athletes Premier International. Other clients of the Hendricks brothers include Kendry Morales and Andy Pettitte. There is no word as to the reasoning of the switch, but it would be logical to assume that the process will now be far more streamlined as the Hendricks are veterans in the business while Meija and API started in 2006. Still, the timing is a bit curious.

 Aroldis Chapman - SNov. 19 - 9:39 am et
According to Frankie Piliere of AOL Fanhouse, it's looking like a two-team race between the Red Sox and Yankees for Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman.
Piliere cites sources of with several different teams as saying that despite heavy interest, mid-market teams do not expect to be involved in the bidding for the young fireballer. The Red Sox and Yankees are among a select few who can make a serious bid on an unknown quantity.

 Hisanori Takahashi - SNov. 17 - 6:03 pm et
Japanese left-hander Hisanori Takahashi, who just completed his 10th season with the Yomiuri Giants, declared himself a free agent on Tuesday and wants to play in the major leagues.
"I decided I wanted to try out for the Majors three days ago," Takahashi said, according to sponichi.co.jp. "If I didn't have confidence in myself, I wouldn't have made the decision. I want to go to a team that needs me. I'd be extremely happy if I'm used as a starter." Takahashi, 34, was 10-6 with a 2.94 ERA in 25 games in 2009. He was 79-66 with a 3.70 ERA in 245 career games for the Giants. The veteran southpaw has a fastball that tops out at around 90 mph, but has averaged 7.25 K/9 for his career.

 Aroldis Chapman - SNov. 10 - 12:16 pm et
Rob Bradford of WEEI.com says there is some concern about the makeup of Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman.
Bradford cites a National League executive who didn't question the 21-year-old's stuff -- his fastball has been clocked as fast as 102 mph -- but acknowledged that there are some growing concerns about Chapman's maturity level. Some have even questioned whether Chapman is ready to start his career in the big leagues at all. Despite the concerns about his mental makeup, with a weak market for starting pitching, expect the young southpaw to sign a lucrative contract this winter, with the Yankees and Red Sox among the favorites to land him.

 Wagner Mateo - OFNov. 8 - 1:49 pm et
Sources have informed Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News that the Giants are a long way from an agreement with outfielder Wagner Mateo.
Several media outlets reported in October that the Giants were close to inking the 16-year-old Dominican, but times have changed. The Giants are now simply "keeping tabs" on the situation, according to Baggarly. Mateo was signed by the Cardinals in July, but the contract was terminated after it was revealed the talented youngster has a degenerative eye issue.

 Aroldis Chapman - SNov. 7 - 2:47 pm et
Tim Kurkjian of ESPN.com quoted a general manager who said that Aroldis Chapman might not be ready to contribute immediately in the major leagues.
"I love his arm," one GM said. "But he's got a ways to go before he's ready to pitch in the major leagues, physically and emotionally." Chapman is only 21 years old and will have to adapt to all of the trappings of a big-money contract while living in the United States. Likewise, he is still learning to pitch, posting a 4.03 ERA in the National Series in Cuba this season. That said, it's hard to ignore the young southpaw's 100 mph fastball. Expect him to receive a contract at least as rich as the four-year, $32 million deal Jose Contreras signed with the Yankees four years ago.

In an email to Mark Newman of MLB.com, Braves general manger Frank Wren denied interest in free agent Aroldis Chapman.
"We don't have any plans to meet with him at this time," Wren wrote on Monday night. His comments are contrary to an SI.com report that said the Braves had joined the list of potential suitors for the Cuban left-hander.

 Aroldis Chapman - SOct. 29 - 9:27 am et
Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman met with the Red Sox on Wednesday.
"Boston was one of the teams he was interested in from the start, and that certainly hasn't changed," said Chapman’s agent, Edwin Mejia. "It was a very good visit." Chapman was also expected to throw a bullpen session at Fenway Park, however it was canceled due to inclement weather. Boston is one of nearly 10 teams that have expressed interest in the 21-year-old fireballer, but Peter Gammons of ESPN.com believes that the signing of former Chapman teammate Jose Iglesias may give the Red Sox a leg up.

 Aroldis Chapman - SOct. 28 - 6:30 am et
According to Kiley McDaniel of Baseball Prospectus, Aroldis Chapman is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday at Fenway Park.
It's not clear what teams, other than the Red Sox, will be in attendance. Chapman is drawing interest from both Boston and the Yankees, and the chase for his services will probably come down to a race between the two clubs. The Tigers and Cardinals have expressed outside interest, but aren't likely to cough up the $40-$60 million that the Cuban left-hander is expecting.

 Aroldis Chapman - SOct. 27 - 9:04 am et
Jason Beck of MLB.com reports that the Tigers have confirmed interest in Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman.
"We're basically just at the interest level," said Tom Moore, Tigers' director of international operations. "Because of the nature, I think it's a situation where they're going to take the time to allow clubs to spend some time with the player and see who he is." Don't expect the Tigers to outbid the likes of the Yankees and Red Sox, however they are among nearly 10 teams that have interest in the 21-year-old fireballer. Chapman is expected to command somewhere in the range of $40-60 million.

The Tigers are trying to set up a meeting with free agent Aroldis Chapman for either this week or early next week.
It's hard to see the Tigers outbidding the Yankees and Red Sox with their payroll already sky high. It's doubtful that they'll be serious bidders.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Athletics have interest in Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman, however they were not among the teams meeting with him in New York this week.
Chapman is expected to net somewhere around $40-60 million, so the Athletics are a longshot destination for the 21-year-old fireballer. The usual suspects, including the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Cardinals, Dodgers and Angels, among others, are expected to bid for his services.

 Wagner Mateo - OFOct. 21 - 7:46 pm et
Jorge Arangure Jr. of ESPN.com reports that Wagner Mateo may sign with the Giants within the "next couple of weeks."
Mateo, a 16-year-old outfielder, was set to receive a historic $3.1 million signing bonus from the Cardinals, but his contract was voided after a physical revealed problems with his vision. It's safe to assume Mateo won't get anywhere near that amount should he sign with San Francisco.
