 Adrian Gonzalez - 1BNov. 20 - 10:43 pm et
New Padres general manager Jed Hoyer had a "cordial" meeting with Adrian Gonzalez's agent John Boggs on Friday, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports.
"There wasn't any kind of negotiating or exchanging of numbers or anything like that," said Boggs in what was effectively a meet-and-greet with Hoyer. "I'm sure we're going to keep the dialogue open, but nothing is imminent at this point. The way we're looking at it, Adrian is a Padre until something happens. And they're the ones who are really in control of the situation." Gonzalez, 27, is under team control for two more seasons, but would reap a boatload of prospects in a potential trade.

 Steve Garrison - SNov. 20 - 7:28 pm et
Padres purchased the contracts of LHP Steve Garrison, RHP Craig Italiano and OF Chad Huffman.
Each are now protected from December's Rule 5 draft. Garrison, 23, was one of the three players the Padres received from the Brewers in the Scott Linebrink trade during the 2007 season. That they chose to protect him is a bit of a surprise since he suffered a serious injury to his right knee in the Arizona Fall League that will require surgery. He likely won't begin a throwing program until June of next year. Garrison was 1-2 with a 5.56 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) between three stops in the San Diego organization in 2009.
 Henry Blanco - CNov. 17 - 7:19 pm et
The White Sox are one of several teams that has expressed an interest in catcher Henry Blanco.
Blanco threw out 40 percent of would-be basestealers during the 2009 season for San Diego, and former Padres GM Kevin Towers had expressed an interest in bringing him back. However, agent Steven Schneider said multiple teams have expressed interest in the 38-year old. Blanco should have no problem landing with a competitive team at a nice salary given his defensive wizardry and acceptable offense.

 Mark Prior - SNov. 12 - 9:31 am et
Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that Mark Prior (shoulder) plans to throw in front of teams at some point.
Don't hold your breath. Now 29 years old, Prior never saw the field during two years with the Padres and hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since August 10, 2006. The former first-round pick has become a cautionary tale for the likes of young phenoms like Stephen Strasburg.

 Chris Young - SNov. 11 - 9:38 am et
Chris Young, who underwent exploratory shoulder surgery in mid-August, is scheduled to begin a throwing program Friday.
young is hoping to be completely healthy by the start of spring training. "Thus far, I've been pretty encouraged from what I've done," he said Tuesday. "There's been no pain. And I'm doing some movements now that I couldn't do before the surgery." He made only 14 starts during the '09 season.

 Adrian Gonzalez - 1BNov. 9 - 9:31 am et
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, there are signs first baseman Adrian Gonzalez will be traded "sooner than later."
Gonzalez, 27, is under team control for another two years. But he'll continue to lose value as free agency nears. As the Union-Tribune notes, the slugger was left out of a brochure shipped to prospective season-ticket holders at the end of the season and his agent, John Boggs, has not been approached by the Padres' new ownership group about the possibility of inking a contract extension. Gonzalez posted a .958 OPS and 40 home runs this season. A laundry list of teams would come calling if he's made available this winter.

 Kevin Correia - SNov. 8 - 8:46 am et
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports expects an agreement between Kevin Correia and San Diego.
Correia had a fantastic year, going 12-11 with a 3.91 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 198 innings. His salary is due to jump to the $3-4 million range, but the San Diego native wants to stay with the club. Just a year away from free agency, a one-year deal is the likely bet.

 Adrian Gonzalez - 1BNov. 8 - 8:35 am et
The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo reports that it is not clear whether or not Adrian Gonzalez will be shopped.
Cafardo mentions that incoming principal owner Jeff Moorad clashed with former GM Kevin Towers on whether or not Gonzalez should be dealt, with Moorad preferring the player stay in town. With Jed Hoyer in charge now, it's unknown whether Moorad continues to feel the same way. Gonzalez is under club control for the next two years for $10.25 million, a ludicrous bargain. The Padres could bring in a bevy of talent by dealing Gonzalez now, and Hoyer was part of the Red Sox team that negotiated the failed trade at the deadline. The pieces are there for the Wesleyan graduate to assemble a trade should that determination be made.

 Nick Hundley - CNov. 6 - 9:31 am et
Nick Hundley had surgery Wednesday to repair a sports hernia.
"I don't know how severe it really was," Hundley said. "I had regular treatment for the injury during the season and we kept it at bay. But it never got better... I'll be 100 percent by spring training." The catcher hit .237/.278/.359 in 256 at-bats this season while sharing time with Henry Blanco.

 Edgar Gonzalez - 2BNov. 5 - 9:14 am et
According to Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Edgar Gonzalez plans to opt for free agency rather than accept an assignment to Triple-A Portland.
The Padres dropped him from their 40-man roster on Wednesday. "I think this is the end of my run here," Gonzalez said. "I love San Diego. And the Padres gave me an opportunity that I'm thankful for. But my future is probably elsewhere." Limited to just 153 at-bats this season due to post-concussion syndrome, Gonzalez batted .216/.278/.373 with four homers and 18 RBI while being a liability in the field. It will be interesting to see if his brother Adrian follows him out the door this winter.

 Adrian Gonzalez - 1BOct. 27 - 9:32 am et
Former Padres general manager Kevin Towers says Adrian Gonzalez will be traded.
"They're going to have a $40 million payroll for the foreseeable future," said Towers in reference to his former team. "And there's just no way they can devote half of that to one player. It's just a matter of when they decide to trade (Gonzalez)." Gonzalez is set to make just $4.75 million in 2010 with a $5.5 million club option for 2011 before hitting the open market in 2012, so new Padres general manager Jed Hoyer could make out like a bandit in a potential trade. The Red Sox, Hoyer's former club, are rumored to have interest in the 27-year-old first baseman.

That includes hitting coach Randy Ready, bench coach Ted Simmons, pitching coach Darren Balsley, first base coach Rick Renteria, third base coach Glenn Hoffman and bullpen coach Darrel Akerfelds. Ready is interviewing for the Astros' managerial opening, but will return to San Diego if he doesn't land it. The Padres went 75-87 in 2009.

 Adrian Gonzalez - 1BOct. 21 - 2:26 pm et
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Padres "are moving closer toward hiring Jed Hoyer, an assistant general manager with the Boston Red Sox, as their next general manager."
The 35-year-old Hoyer has worked for the Red Sox since 2002 and previously interviewed for GM openings with the Nationals and Pirates. San Diego fired longtime GM Kevin Towers three weeks ago.

 Adrian Gonzalez - 1BOct. 19 - 10:52 am et
According to Chris Jenkins of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Padres CEO Jeff Moorad indicated that he is still considering another candidate for the team's open general manager position.
"We're still working through the process," Moorad wrote during an exchange of e-mails on Sunday. "The process is near-complete, but we may interview one more candidate. Either way, we would like to make a decision before the World Series." Moorad has refused to confirm or deny those being considered for the job, however Dodgers assistant general manager Kim Ng reportedly interviewed for the position over the weekend. If hired, she would become the first female general manager in major sports history. Boston assistant Jed Hoyer is considered a favorite for the job.

 Adrian Gonzalez - 1BOct. 17 - 10:09 pm et
According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, Dodgers executive Kim Ng interviewed for the Padres' general manager opening on Saturday afternoon.
If Ng lands the job, something Heyman calls a "long shot," she'd become the first female GM in major sports history. Ng is widely respected around the baseball world and currently runs salary arbitration cases for the Dodgers, among many other duties, but baseball is still very much a boys' club.

 Eliezer Alfonzo - COct. 13 - 4:30 pm et
Eliezer Alfonzo has opted for free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Portland.
In emergency duty, Alfonzo batted a lousy .175/.197/.254 with two homers and eight RBI in 114 at-bats this season. The 30-year-old backstop threw out 37.5% of baserunners (9-for-24) over 255 innings behind the plate in 2009.
 Luis Rodriguez - SSOct. 13 - 4:24 pm et
Luis Rodriguez has opted for free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Portland.
Rodriguez, 29, hit .202/.319/.260 with two homers and 16 RBI in 208 at-bats this year, playing shortstop and second base. Rodriguez is a .243 hitter over parts of five major league seasons between the Padres and Twins.
 Shawn Hill - SOct. 8 - 8:14 pm et
Padres released RHP Shawn Hill.
Hill made only three starts in 2009 before undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing the remainder of the year. The right-hander has shown promise at times but has never been healthy enough to throw 100 innings in a major-league season. He'll look to latch on with another club on a minor-league deal this winter.

 Cliff Floyd - DHOct. 8 - 8:10 pm et
The Padres released outfielder Cliff Floyd.
It was a lost season for Floyd, who hit .125 in just 16 at-bats for the Padres. The 36-year-old, whose shoulder was never quite right this year, may call it a career.
