 Jeff Webb - WRFeb. 9 - 5:36 pm et
The Ravens worked out former Chiefs WR Jeff Webb last week.
The Ravens have a need at receiver, but Webb isn't the answer with iffy hands and a lack of both deep speed and after-the-catch ability.

 Quinn Sypniewski - TEFeb. 9 - 5:28 pm et
Ravens TE Quinn Sypniewski has undergone a "relatively minor followup surgery" on his left knee.
Sypniewski shredded the knee in 2008 training camp and had a setback last offseason, necessitating a second surgery. This is his third procedure since the original injury. Once a dominant blocker, Sypniewski may never recover his old form.

 Ed Reed - DBFeb. 5 - 6:19 pm et
Ravens FS Ed Reed revealed on the NFL Network Friday that the nerve impingement in his neck and shoulder has gotten worse.
Reed also played through ankle, groin, and most notably hip injuries during the '09 season. He indicated that the nerve issue caused the latter most injury. Reed called himself "50:50" to continue to his playing career early last month. The chances of Reed returning now appear to be decreasing.

 Troy Smith - QBFeb. 5 - 8:58 am et
Troy Smith's agent insists he made a trade request in December despite GM Ozzie Newsome's contention that he never received it.
This is all getting a little silly. Regardless of the request, the Ravens haven't received much interest in Smith, nor are they likely to this offseason. He's far more likely to stay the backup in Baltimore as opposed to landing a starting job.

 Haloti Ngata - DLFeb. 4 - 1:12 pm et
Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome indicated that extending DT Haloti Ngata's contract will be a priority this offseason.
Ngata, a four-year veteran, has emerged as one of the premier defensive tackles in the NFL and a nucleus player for the Ravens defense. He won't come cheaply on a multi-year deal.

 Derrick Mason - WRFeb. 4 - 10:11 am et
Coach John Harbaugh indicated that the Ravens will "try to do everything [they] can" to bring back free agent Derrick Mason.
Mason is contemplating retirement, but he's hinted that he'd return to Baltimore if they make it worth his while. Harbaugh's comments suggest the two sides will be able to find common ground this offseason.

 Demetrius Williams - WRFeb. 4 - 10:07 am et
Coach John Harbaugh called out restricted free agent Demetrius Williams at the Ravens' state of the union address Wednesday
"You've got to be able to run the kind of routes, catch the ball in pressure situations, break the thing off at the right depth," said Harbaugh. "We tried to put Demetrius in situations to be successful as much as we could, and we need more." Williams is hardly a lock to return to Baltimore in 2010.

 Troy Smith - QBFeb. 3 - 5:29 pm et
Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said Wednesday that he has never received a trade request from Troy Smith's agent.
Newsome said he hasn't even spoken with Smith's agent. The Ravens GM also suggested that Smith isn't drawing much interest in trade talks. Expect him to remain Joe Flacco's backup in 2010.

 Terrell Suggs - DLFeb. 3 - 4:11 pm et
Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti confirmed that OLB Terrell Suggs entered the 2009 season out of shape.
This was hardly a secret in the Baltimore area. Suggs lost playing time early in the season, and he sprained the MCL in his right knee two months later. After signing a six-year, $62.5M mega-deal, Suggs was a major disappointment in 2009.

 Anquan Boldin - WRFeb. 3 - 3:30 pm et
Acknowledging that wide receiver is a priority this offseason, Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome indicated that he's "open" to trading players or draft picks to acquire an upgrade.
The Ravens need a big, physical receiver to push Derrick Mason into the No. 2 role. Anquan Boldin and Brandon Marshall both fit the description, though coaches' nightmare Marshall comes with a sizable character risk. The injury-prone Boldin would come at a lower cost in players and/or draft picks.

 Dawan Landry - DBJan. 31 - 11:13 am et
Beat writer Mark Cannizzaro speculates that the Jets could make a play for Ravens SS Dawan Landry.
Landry is set to become a restricted free agent that will be an expensive tender, so we doubt he's going anywhere. Of course, this would be a non-issue if the Jets bring back Kerry Rhodes.

 Derrick Mason - WRJan. 31 - 8:54 am et
Derrick Mason is expected "to try to work something out to remain in Baltimore," according to beat writer Aaron Wilson.
Wilson talked to Mason's agent, Lamont Smith, at the Senior Bowl. Smith said he will meet with Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome soon to discuss Mason's future. Mason, of course, says he is contemplating retirement but we suspect that the right deal for the free agent receiver will convince him to return.

 Ravens Offense - TMJan. 30 - 4:12 pm et
Former Redskins head coach Jim Zorn has been named the new quarterbacks coach for the Ravens.
Zorn has spent the majority of his coaching career in the same position, developing Charlie Batch with the Lions in the late 90s before tutoring Matt Hasselbeck in Seattle. He'll be responsible for Joe Flacco's transition from promising young passer to elite franchise quarterback.

 Troy Smith - QBJan. 30 - 10:16 am et
Ravens backup QB Troy Smith says he would "love" to play for the Browns.
"There is no doubt about it," said Smith, an Ohio State alum. "It has always been a childhood dream of mine." Smith is accurate and mobile, and could be a good fit in Mike Holmgren's West Coast offense (assuming Holmgren installs his scheme). The Ravens are likely open to any trade offers.

 Dannell Ellerbe - LBJan. 29 - 9:46 am et
Beat writer Mike Preston believes the Ravens "might have found a gem" in undrafted ILB Dannell Ellerbe.
Ellerbe bypassed a banged-up Tavares Gooden to nail down the starting "Jack" linebacker job late in the season, excelling in the playoffs. He'll enter the offseason as the favorite to start next to Ray Lewis inside.

 Demetrius Williams - WRJan. 29 - 9:42 am et
Beat writer Mike Preston believes the Ravens and Demetrius Williams "need a break from each other."
A restricted free agent, Williams has flashed only intermittent playmaking ability the past few seasons. The Ravens no longer trust him to stay healthy or to succeed as anything more than a situational deep threat.

 Derrick Mason - WRJan. 29 - 9:38 am et
According to beat writer Mike Preston, the Ravens would only bring Derrick Mason back as a No. 2 receiver.
The Ravens need a bigger, faster No. 1 receiver to push Mason down the depth chart and Mark Clayton out of the rotation. Anquan Boldin, Brandon Marshall, Antonio Bryant, and Terrell Owens are expected to be available beginning in March.

 Joe Flacco - QBJan. 28 - 5:39 pm et
Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron attributes Joe Flacco's late-season struggles to a litany of significant injuries.
"If you actually saw those injuries and saw the amount of rehab and everything it took for him to get ready to play on Sunday, people would be amazed at his performance," Cameron said. Despite the injury-induced slump, Flacco's played even better in his second year than he did in an impressive rookie season. He posted a 95+ passer rating in 9-of-16 games this season while dramatically increasing his yards and TD totals.

 Kelley Washington - WRJan. 27 - 7:17 pm et
The Ravens have reportedly informed the player rep for free agent WR Kelley Washington that they want to re-sign his client.
Washington was a bit stretched as a third receiver last season, but he'd be a quality re-signing if the Ravens are able to upgrade the Nos. 1 and 3 spots (assuming Derrick Mason stays on as No. 2) this offseason. Washington has no upside going on age 31, but cover kicks well and is a useful backup.

 Troy Smith - QBJan. 26 - 3:51 pm et
Safety Donte Whitner is lobbying for the Bills to trade for Ravens backup QB Troy Smith.
The two were teammates not only at Ohio State but also at Glenville High School, so Whitner is far from unbiased. While it's reasonable to believe Smith would be an upgrade on Ryan Fitzpatrick & Co., the Bills will likely aim for a franchise quarterback as opposed to a temporary solution such as Smith.
