 Bruce Hall - RBFeb. 8 - 6:59 pm et
Broncos signed RB Bruce Hall, formerly of the Bills.
Hall, 25, offers very little speed at 5'11/210 and has bounced around since going undrafted in 2008 out of Ole Miss. He won't make the 2010 roster.
 Donovan McNabb - QBFeb. 8 - 1:08 pm et
ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that the Broncos, Bills, and Browns have shown interest in the availability of Donovan McNabb.
While Cleveland and Buffalo has obvious holes at QB, this tells us a little about Denver's faith, or lack of it, in Kyle Orton as a long-term solution. The Eagles have indicated that McNabb is unlikely to be traded. Should they be offered a first-round pick however, we strongly believe that would change.

 Kyle Orton - QBFeb. 7 - 8:47 am et
Broncos owner Pat Bowlen said he wants impending restricted free agent Kyle Orton to return.
"Orton is a good quarterback," Bowlen said. The owner added that he would like to draft a quarterback, presumably in the later rounds. We're fully expecting Orton to be the Broncos' starting quarterback come Week 1 of next season, even if he's only on a one-year deal.

 Brandon Marshall - WRFeb. 7 - 8:42 am et
Broncos owner Pat Bowlen said he would like Brandon Marshall to remain with the team.
"And there's still a good possibility that could happen," Bowlen said. The owner said that he thinks Marshall matured this season, but added that he would not veto any trade that coach Josh McDaniels thinks benefits the team. The trading period opens on March 5 and we'll see how much teams are willing to give for someone with questionable character.

 Brandon Marshall - WRFeb. 5 - 9:20 am et
CBS analyst Shannon Sharpe insists he's knows "personally there are three teams out there who are going to make a move for Brandon Marshall."
There's no question that several receiver-needy teams will be intrigued by Marshall despite his baggage. But will they be willing to give up a first-round pick (or more) while also committing to an expensive long-term deal for a major character risk?

 Brandon Marshall - WRFeb. 4 - 1:59 pm et
An apparently contrite Brandon Marshall said Thursday that he's open to playing for the Broncos next season.
"Last year I handled things totally wrong," admitted Marshall. "I just looked at the business side of things and took things too personally." Marshall is attempting to repair his image, but the Broncos would clearly prefer to trade him this offseason. Perhaps Marshall's agent has finally made it clear that his best way to get a contract extension is to play the role of the good soldier.

 Brandon Marshall - WRFeb. 4 - 9:43 am et
Beat writer Matt Maiocco expects the 49ers to have "absolutely" no interest in trading for Brandon Marshall.
This isn't surprising. The Niners spent a first-round pick on Michael Crabtree last season, so they're not ready to give up another high pick for a wide receiver. Throw in Marshall's major character concerns, and he makes for a risky long-term investment.

 Brandon Marshall - WRFeb. 3 - 6:23 pm et
Beat writer Mike Preston believes it will be a "surprising" if the Ravens make a play for Brandon Marshall this offseason.
We tend to agree. Owner Steve Bisciotti is willing to take a risk on "first-time offenders," but he's much more leery of repeat offenders. Marshall has had problems with coaches Mike Shanahan and Josh McDaniels the past two years, both of them growing tired of his antics on and off the field. He's simply too big of a character risk for the likely first-round (or more) asking price.

 D'Anthony Batiste - TFeb. 3 - 10:51 am et
Broncos signed OL D'Anthony Batiste to a futures contract.
Batiste spent the last month of the season on the Broncos' practice squad after getting dumped by the Redskins. The journeyman has good size and the Broncos could see some potential in him as a backup.

 Elvis Dumervil - DLFeb. 3 - 9:15 am et
Beat writer Mike Klis says that he wouldn't be surprised if impending restricted free agent Elvis Dumervil gets a deal before the March 5 tender date.
Klis calls Dumervil a guy that respects authority, also known as a Josh McDaniels kind of guy. Dumervil, who led the NFL with 17 sacks, will garner plenty of interest but the Broncos will do everything they can to keep him.

 Robert Ayers - DLFeb. 2 - 1:48 pm et
According to beat writer Frank Schwab, anyone believing 2009 first-rounder Robert Ayers had a positive impact as a rookie "can't see past their orange and blue tinted glasses."
After struggling to pick up Mike Nolan's 3-4 scheme, Ayers failed to record a single sack as a rookie. Part of that can be explained by Ayers' setting the edge opposite Elvis Dumervil on nickel downs, but he's going to have to come a long way this offseason.

 Brandon Marshall - WRJan. 31 - 9:00 am et
Champ Bailey said that he would be surprised if Brandon Marshall is back with the Broncos next season.
The majority of Denver beat writers seem very confident that Marshall will be dealt shortly after NFL free agency opens on March 5 as well. As beat writer Mike Klis puts it, "the next time Marshall and the Broncos go to work for each other, their business is expected to appear on the transaction wire." It's going to be almost impossible for the Broncos to get equal value for their stud receiver, so we're not calling a trade a foregone conclusion yet.

 Broncos Defense - TMJan. 28 - 1:55 pm et
Broncos promoted linebackers coach Don Martindale to defensive coordinator.
A Raiders assistant from 2004-2008, "Wink" Martindale will be the Broncos' fifth defensive boss in five seasons. Josh McDaniels confirmed that Martindale will keep Mike Nolan's 3-4 defense intact. "Our system won't change, our philosophy won't change. He's a very aggressive coach," said McDaniels. The in-house promotion at least provides continuity on defense. For McDaniels' sake, the move better work out.

 Brandon Marshall - WRJan. 28 - 1:49 pm et
According to the Denver Post, Brandon Marshall is expected to be traded shortly after NFL free agency opens on March 5.
The Broncos' leverage is somewhat damaged after a Week 17 blowout between Marshall and coach Josh McDaniels. Throw in Marshall's major character concerns, and the team will have trouble getting anywhere close to full value for their restricted free agent. Marshall isn't talking during this week's Pro Bowl practices, saying he's "had enough publicity." Smart.

 Peyton Hillis - RBJan. 26 - 3:10 pm et
The Broncos are expected to target a mid-to-late round running back or a young free agent with upside this offseason.
Correll Buckhalter turns 32 in October, and the Josh McDaniels staff was a lot more hesitant to use Peyton Hillis as a runner. Beat writer Frank Schwab suspects Hillis could be "on his way out." In which case, Mike Shanahan would likely be interested in adding him to the Redskins backfield.

 David Garrard - QBJan. 24 - 8:26 pm et
David Garrard has been selected to the Pro Bowl as Peyton Manning's replacement, according to Garrard's agent Phil Senich.
Needless to say, he's brutally undeserving. Garrard, who finished the year with a 15:10 TD-to-INT ratio, threw multiple touchdown passes in just five games all season and was horrible on the road. Garrard still apparently got more fan votes than Kyle Orton, who completed a higher percentage of passes, threw for more yards, and had 21 TDs compared to 12 INTs.

 Elvis Dumervil - DLJan. 24 - 12:42 pm et
ESPN's Adam Schefter suggests that impending restricted free agent OLB Elvis Dumervil will be on the Dolphins' radar this offseason.
The connection with Mike Nolan is obvious, as Dumervil enjoyed a career year under the Fins' new defensive boss in 2009. Dumervil also is from Miami. Denver, however, will make every effort to retain the 26-year-old NFL sacks leader.

 Knowshon Moreno - RBJan. 24 - 11:20 am et
Coach Josh McDaniels confirmed that the Broncos will move away from their traditional zone-blocking scheme in 2010.
The Broncos have used the one-cut scheme since 1995, but struggled mightily in short yardage last year while Knowshon Moreno averaged just 3.8 yards per carry. Look for the Broncos to add some bigger offensive linemen as they go to a power running scheme. The change should help Moreno.

 Brandon Marshall - WRJan. 24 - 10:20 am et
Nate Burleson stirred some Brandon Marshall rumors by posting this on his Twitter page: "I heard about Brandon Marshall possible coming hear but I won't believe til I see it. He is a monster though!"
We doubt Burleson has inside info on the what's going on behind closed doors in Seattle; he's probably just speculating like the rest of us. A free agent, Burleson isn't even signed with Seattle in 2010 and wouldn't return as a starter if he did re-sign and the Seahawks traded for Marshall. The team overpaid for T.J. Houshmandzadeh just last offseason, and we doubt Pete Carroll's first priority is the receiver position.

 Broncos Offense - TMJan. 23 - 7:55 pm et
The Broncos made sweeping changes to their offensive coaching staff Saturday, moving Clancy Barone to offensive line coach with Bob Wylie as his assistant.
Barone and Wylie will be charged with moving the running game completely away from the zone-blocking scheme used under Mike Shanahan. Josh McDaniels' brother, Ben, was promoted to QBs coach, Eric Studesville replaces Bobby Turner as RBs coach, and former Steelers special teams coach Bob Ligashesky was brought in as tight ends coach.
