 Bruce Gradkowski - QBFeb. 9 - 2:35 pm et
ESPN's AFC West blogger Bill Williamson believes the Raiders will re-sign restricted free agent Bruce Gradkowski and allow him to compete for the starting job.
There's no question the offense moved more smoothly and with more gusto under Gradkowski than JaMarcus Russell. Neither player is the solution at quarterback, however. The Raiders are setting the bar awfully low with Gradkowski's career completion percentage of 53.3 and yards per attempt average of 5.4.

 Raiders Offense - TMFeb. 7 - 10:51 am et
Raiders assistant coaches have been telling players that the coaching staff will remain intact for 2010, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
We already know that Tom Cable is coming back, this is just further confirmation. Now we just have to wait for the Raiders to make it official, which will be done at owner Al Davis' convenience.

 Raiders Defense - TMFeb. 6 - 5:38 pm et
The Raiders are reportedly set to hire former Chiefs defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast as defensive backs coach.
Todd Haley originally wanted Pendergast to stay on in the same position with the Chiefs, but the two ended up agreeing to part ways. After losing his job twice in two seasons, Pendergast's days as a coordinator may be over.

Ubiquitous club spokesman John Herrera said Thursday that the Raiders have still not made a final decision on Tom Cable's status.
"We are still meeting and examining everything," Herrera said. "When we are completely done, we will make a decision and let everyone know." This is preposterous. Cable is keeping his job, but the Raiders enjoy leaving everyone in the media hanging.

 Nnamdi Asomugha - DBFeb. 3 - 12:38 pm et
Nnamdi Asomugha insists he was "kidding" about lobbying Jets coach Rex Ryan for a trade to pair him with Darrelle Revis.
"The only thing we were 'dead serious' about was the fact that it would be fun to one day play on the same team," said Asomugha. "We were two guys enjoying the Pro Bowl and completely clowning around during the week. We were playfully recruiting each other." Asomugha is stuck in Oakland, so this is the last we should hear about the issue.

 Sebastian Janikowski - KFeb. 3 - 9:33 am et
The Raiders have engaged in long-term contract talks with impending unrestricted free agent K Sebastian Janikowski, according to beat writer David White.
White says that Janikowski isn't going anywhere. If the kicker refuses a long-term deal, the Raiders will slap him the franchise tag. Janikowski is coming off perhaps his best season as a pro, hitting six field goals of 50+ yards. But until the Raiders' offense improves, we can't recommend Sebass as a fantasy kicker.

 Nnamdi Asomugha - DBFeb. 1 - 3:08 pm et
Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha said at the Pro Bowl that he wants to play for the Jets and has discussed the idea with coach Rex Ryan.
This would constitute tampering. "Me and (Darrelle) Revis have been talking to Rex to try to do something," Asomugha said. "You may see us in the future. There's a little bit of talk going on." Asomugha signed the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history last year and isn't going anywhere. Ryan may still have to answer to the league about the two's alleged "talks."

 JaMarcus Russell - QBJan. 29 - 6:40 pm et
Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha conceded Friday that JaMarcus Russell didn't prepare himself well enough last offseason to be the Raiders' starter.
"You can have all the intangibles, but ... mentally, you've got to do it yourself," said Asomugha. Russell's poor work ethic has been well documented, and it now appears the Raiders won't simply hand him the starting job this offseason. He's going to have to do a complete 180 to have a shot at beating out the competition this summer.

 Richard Seymour - DLJan. 29 - 1:59 pm et
Defensive ends will make the biggest jump of any position in this year's franchise tag numbers.
Thanks to Julius Peppers' $16.68M salary last season, the defensive end price tag will increase from $8.99M to $12.398M. Running backs also see a nice jump, from $6.62M to $8.156M. The Raiders now have extra incentive to agree to a long-term deal with Richard Seymour while the Chargers figure out if Darren Sproles is worth over $8M in 2010.

Tom Cable said Thursday that he and owner Al Davis have yet to discuss any sort of head coaching change this offseason.
"We did great diligence in terms of an organization, the coaches, and here we are getting ready for the 2010 season," Cable said of his recent meetings with Davis. He emphasized that he didn't think "there was ever any question" that he would remain the head coach. Sounds like ol' Al Davis just wanted to leave the media twisting in the wind for three weeks.

 JaMarcus Russell - QBJan. 29 - 9:33 am et
Raiders senior executive John Herrera suggests the hiring of Hue Jackson as offensive coordinator does not give JaMarcus Russell a leg up on the starting job for next season.
Jackson's hiring was seen by many as another avenue for Al Davis to get at least some of his money's worth out of Russell. More likely, the 2007 No. 1 overall pick will have to earn the starting job in training camp. We don't like his chances, regardless of the level of competition brought in this offseason.

 Raiders Offense - TMJan. 26 - 1:18 pm et
New offensive coordinator Hue Jackson confirmed that he will be the primary play-caller for the Raiders.
Jackson has a diversified background, having coached quarterbacks, receivers, and running backs since 2001. While Tom Cable came from a run-first mentality, we can expect Jackson bring the passing game back into the offense. Of course, the Raiders will have to upgrade at quarterback to accomplish that goal.

 Raiders Offense - TMJan. 26 - 9:43 am et
Raiders hired former Ravens QBs coach Hue Jackson as offensive coordinator and signed him to a three-year contract.
The Raiders didn't have anyone in the offensive coordinator role last year, so the move may be a sign of progress for pro football's most dysfunctional franchise. Tom Cable was clearly stretched last year as Oakland's playcaller, offensive line overseer, and head coach while dealing with off-field problems. Jackson is choosing the Raiders over Chicago, which doesn't say much for Bears GM Jerry Angelo's so-far fruitless offensive coordinator search.

Club spokesman John Herrera said Monday that the Raiders still have not decided the fate of head coach Tom Cable.
Al Davis continues to toy with the media while hiring assistant coaches with direct connections to Cable. It's all but certain that Cable is coming back, as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported three days ago. Herrera, though, said Monday that Davis and Cable are meeting "regularly" to discuss the future, just a day after claiming the Raiders never gave any indication Cable's job was in danger. Oakland's offensive coordinator job remains vacant.

 Bears Offense - TMJan. 25 - 2:25 pm et
The Bears have reportedly sought permission to interview Ravens QBs coach Hue Jackson for a spot on Chicago's staff.
It's likely for their offensive coordinator vacancy, from which Chargers TEs coach Rob Chudzinski dropped out of the running late last week. Jackson, who apparently won't go to Oakland after all, joins Bengals QBs coach Ernie Zampese and purported long-shot Mike Martz as candidates for the gig.

 Javon Walker - WRJan. 25 - 11:43 am et
San Francisco Chronicle columnist Scott Ostler doesn't expect Javon Walker to get in the Raiders' receiving mix next season.
There's no reason to think Walker would. He dressed for three games and had no catches in 2009, deservedly cementing himself in the doghouse. The only reason Walker would be on the team next season is that he's guaranteed $2.3 million.

 JaMarcus Russell - QBJan. 24 - 9:36 am et
Jamarcus Russell will be back with the Raiders in 2010, sources tell ESPN's Len Pasquarelli.
This just confirms what we already knew -- owner Al Davis isn't going to give up on Russell yet. Pasquarelli says Oakland brass still believes JaMarcus can be a productive player in the league, particularly with the right coaching. We're skeptical about that because of Russell's work habits, decision making, and poor accuracy. He's likely to return as a backup next season.

 Raiders Offense - TMJan. 23 - 8:14 pm et
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Tom Cable will stay on as Raiders head coach in 2010.
Cable did get his team to play hard down the stretch for a second straight season. Owner Al Davis appears to be going with Cable's ability to motivate over JaMarcus Russell, who Cable benched in-season despite Davis' belief that the 2007 No. 1 overall pick is a "great player." Cable's playcalling duties are likely to be stripped, however, in favor of offensive coordinator target Hue Jackson. In the last year of his contract, Cable enters 2010 as a lame duck.

 Raiders Defense - TMJan. 23 - 8:59 am et
Raiders hired former Giants defensive line coach Mike Waufle to the same position on Friday.
Waufle was let go by the Giants earlier this month because of concerns that he had become too close with his players and wasn't hard enough on them. He also interviewed with the Redskins, but word is he wanted to head back to the west coast where he coached the Raiders' line from 1998-2003.

 Raiders Offense - TMJan. 22 - 3:46 pm et
Despite multiple reports to the contrary, the Raiders insist that Ravens QB coach Hue Jackson is being interviewed for Oakland's offensive coordinator vacancy only -- not as a potential head coach.
"I would vociferously deny that any head coaching interviews are taking place while (Al Davis) is still meeting with Tom Cable," club voice John Herrera said. We'd side with the Carroll County Times and Baltimore Sun's reports. The Raiders have consistently proved untrustworthy on such matters.
