 Walter Jones - TFeb. 9 - 8:16 pm et
The Seahawks are still unsure of LT Walter Jones' plans for 2010.
Jones announced "it is time for me to retire from football" on Twitter Sunday, but he's publicly stated that he wants to keep playing if possible. While he's supposedly exchanged communication with the front office this week, the team has yet to "reconfirm" Jones' plans.

 Julius Jones - RBFeb. 9 - 4:30 pm et
Offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates indicated that he's "excited" about Julius Jones and Justin Forsett in the Seahawks backfield.
Bates believes both backs fit the zone-blocking system well. He added that his days in Denver proved great running backs can be acquired in the late rounds of the draft. Clemson's C.J. Spilled is popularly "mocked" to Seattle with the No. 14 overall pick, but the team may be leery of drafting a back that high.

 Sean Locklear - TFeb. 9 - 11:06 am et
Sean Locklear has an escalator clause in his contract that would pay him more if he plays a significant amount of snaps at left tackle.
We're still not sure if Walter Jones was serious when he "tweeted" that he was retiring. There has been no confirmation of that from Jones' agent or the Seahawks. If Jones does indeed retire, Locklear could bridge the gap at left tackle while Seattle grooms a potential rookie at the position. Offensive line is a major area of need for new coach Pete Carroll.

 Walter Jones - TFeb. 7 - 3:17 pm et
Seahawks LT Walter Jones announced on Twitter Sunday that he is retiring from football.
It's worth noting that Jones is known as something of a jokester, so we're not sure he's being for real. Still, a slew of knee and back issues have caught up to Jones, who turned 36 last month and was unable to play last season. A nine-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro first-teamer, Jones started every single game he appeared in during his 13-year career. He was perhaps the best left tackle (Orlando Pace was right there too) during the early- to mid-2000s, protecting Matt Hasselbeck's blind side and blocking for Shaun Alexander. Jones will make the Hall of Fame.

 Reggie Bush - RBFeb. 5 - 10:42 am et
Dolphins beat writer Omar Kelly passes along "buzz" from Miami that Reggie Bush will end playing for former USC coach Pete Carroll in Seattle "after he's cut" by the Saints.
Carroll has only been in the league for a month, and he's already been linked to Matt Leinart, LenDale White, and Reggie Bush rumors. Bush would first have to get cut by the Saints, which isn't close to a sure thing. He may be asked to restructure, but Sean Payton obviously values him as a versatile offensive weapon and punt returner. We wouldn't put too much stock in the "buzz."

 Walter Jones - TFeb. 5 - 9:28 am et
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll revealed that LT Walter Jones is "doing everything he can" to recuperate from his knee surgeries.
Jones, who has missed the Seahawks' last 20 games, still wants to play if his knee allows it. Due $7.3M in 2010, Jones has indicated that the team will determine whether or not he comes back. He expects a final decision "as early as this month."

 Patrick Kerney - DLJan. 29 - 4:54 pm et
King 5 Sports in Seattle disputes an earlier report that Patrick Kerney held a retirement party last week.
We know that Kerney remains on the Seahawks roster, and he has yet to file retirement paperwork. Whether he held a retirement party last week or not is hearsay at this point. We'll see what happens when he's asked to take a pay-cut this offseason.

 Patrick Kerney - DLJan. 29 - 11:19 am et
According to profootballtalk.com, Seahawks DE Patrick Kerney surprisingly held a retirement party last week. The Tacoma News Tribune confirms the report.
Per PFT, some of those in attendance last week are still "amused" that the retirement has yet to be reported. Kerney, 33, went without a sack in the final five games. Battling injuries for the past two seasons, he was expected to undergo elbow surgery this offseason while the Seahawks asked him to take a paycut. He was a first-team All Pro as recently as 2007.

 Brandon Marshall - WRJan. 24 - 10:20 am et
Nate Burleson stirred some Brandon Marshall rumors by posting this on his Twitter page: "I heard about Brandon Marshall possible coming hear but I won't believe til I see it. He is a monster though!"
We doubt Burleson has inside info on the what's going on behind closed doors in Seattle; he's probably just speculating like the rest of us. A free agent, Burleson isn't even signed with Seattle in 2010 and wouldn't return as a starter if he did re-sign and the Seahawks traded for Marshall. The team overpaid for T.J. Houshmandzadeh just last offseason, and we doubt Pete Carroll's first priority is the receiver position.

 Seahawks Offense - TMJan. 22 - 11:50 am et
Seahawks hired Sherman Smith, formerly of the Redskins, as running backs coach.
Smith is an original Seahawk, leading the team in rushing for the first four years of the franchise. Though he was the offensive coordinator under former teammate Jim Zorn the past two seasons in D.C., he was not involved in the play-calling. The Seahawks backfield figures to have several new faces by the time OTAs roll around in May.

Newly hired Seahawks GM John Schneider admits that Pete Carroll has final authority on the personnel decisions.
It stands to reason, with Carroll being hired first and sitting in on GM interviews. Though Schneider will run the personnel department, he'll have to hash out all decisions with Carroll, who will have final say on player acquisitions.

 Seahawks Offense - TMJan. 19 - 10:26 am et
Seahawks hired John Schneider as general manager.
He'll be introduced Wednesday. Formerly of the Packers, Schneider was one of GM Ted Thompson's right-hand men. The 38-year-old has backgrounds in pro and college scouting, but may only be a figurehead in Seattle with new coach Pete Carroll guaranteed substantial say in personnel decisions. Schneider replaces Tim Ruskell, who was fired during the '09 stretch run.

 Seahawks Offense - TMJan. 19 - 9:12 am et
Packers director of football operations John Schneider is reportedly close to being named Seahawks general manager.
Former Pete Carroll associate Pat Kirwan, now of NFL.com, never stepped up and fellow Seahawks GM finalist Floyd Reese probably would've posed too much threat to Carroll's control. Carroll will have more say than his GM.

Seahawks hired Jerry Gray as defensive backs coach.
Gray had a better gig as assistant head coach of the Redskins, but was willing to take a demotion to get out of D.C. Pete Carroll continues to fill out an impressive staff, with DL coach Dan Quinn staying, Jeremy Bates running the offense, Alex Gibbs coaching OLs, and Gus Bradley at defensive coordinator.

Packers director of football operations John Schneider remains a candidate for the Seahawks GM position despite reports to the contrary.
Reports surfaced late in the week that Seattle's final choice was down to Patriots senior football adviser Floyd Reese and Steelers executive Omar Khan. NFL.com's Jason LaCanfora has reported that Reese has the "inside track" on the job.

Seahawks defensive line coach Dan Quinn will remain with the team in 2010.
Quinn and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley will be the only holdovers from the previous coaching regime. There are a number of openings still on the staff, but Jedd Fisch is expected to join Jeremy Bates and Alex Gibbs on offense.

 Seahawks Defense - TMJan. 15 - 10:19 pm et
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll confirmed Friday that Gus Bradley will stay on as the team's defensive coordinator.
Jerry Gray is being offered the team's secondary coach job, while Seattle tries to retain DL coach Dan Quinn in his current position. Bradley ran a fairly effective front seven in 2009, and the pass defense woes weren't all his fault. Top CB Marcus Trufant wasn't healthy all season and SS Deon Grant got old in a hurry. The secondary will be a priority for Seattle in April.

 Seahawks Defense - TMJan. 15 - 6:22 pm et
The Seahawks have reportedly offered Redskins DBs coach Jerry Gray a spot on their staff in the same position.
It was previously reported that Gray interviewed for Seattle's coordinator job, but Gus Bradley may keep that role. The move would be of the "lateral" nature for Gray, and a downgrade if you consider his assistant head coach/defensive backs title in Washington. We're guessing Gray won't bite.

Former Bucs LB Derrick Brooks said on Sirius NFL radio Friday that the Seahawks will retain defensive coordinator Gus Bradley.
Bradley was Brooks' position coach in Tampa, so the two presumably have a relationship. Seattle had pursued Skins DBs coach Jerry Gray and current DL coach Dan Quinn as potential replacements for Bradley, but keeping continuity is logical because Pete Carroll teaches a similar Tampa-2 scheme.

The Colts have reportedly chosen not to file tampering charges against the Seahawks for their pursuit of Tony Dungy to fill a vacant team president position.
Dungy retired a year ago, but he remains under contract in Indy until next month. The Seahawks apparently did not realize that Dungy was still property of the Colts when they made the overtures.
