 Chad Pennington-QB- DolphinsFeb. 5 - 11:56 am et
Though he acknowledges that it "would be tough" to return to the Jets, Chad Pennington said he'd entertain the opportunity to back up Mark Sanchez.
Dolphins beat writer Armando Salguero puts the odds of Pennington returning to Miami at 50-50, so there's a good chance he'll be "playing the free agent game." Provided he's healthy, Pennington would be a major upgrade on Kellen Clemens for a team expected to contend in 2010.

 Adalius Thomas-LB- PatriotsFeb. 4 - 5:40 pm et
Adalius Thomas conceded Thursday that he's probably done with the Patriots.
Thomas revealed that "something happened" between him and coach Bill Belichick in Week 1, and he still doesn't understand it. Due close to $5 million in 2010, his Patriots days are over. Rex Ryan could be interested in trying his former star linebacker in green and white.

 Nnamdi Asomugha-DB- RaidersFeb. 3 - 12:38 pm et
Nnamdi Asomugha insists he was "kidding" about lobbying Jets coach Rex Ryan for a trade to pair him with Darrelle Revis.
"The only thing we were 'dead serious' about was the fact that it would be fun to one day play on the same team," said Asomugha. "We were two guys enjoying the Pro Bowl and completely clowning around during the week. We were playfully recruiting each other." Asomugha is stuck in Oakland, so this is the last we should hear about the issue.

 Ricky Foley-LB- PlayerFeb. 2 - 5:42 pm et
British Columbia Lions LB Ricky Foley, CFL's sacks leader in 2009, is scheduled to visit the Patriots on Thursday.
Foley has already visited with the Jets and will also meet with the Rams. Foley's agent admits his client isn't as good as former BC Lions teammate Cameron Wake of the Dolphins, but he could end up on NFL roster as a special teamer.

 Nnamdi Asomugha-DB- RaidersFeb. 1 - 3:08 pm et
Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha said at the Pro Bowl that he wants to play for the Jets and has discussed the idea with coach Rex Ryan.
This would constitute tampering. "Me and (Darrelle) Revis have been talking to Rex to try to do something," Asomugha said. "You may see us in the future. There's a little bit of talk going on." Asomugha signed the richest contract for a defensive player in NFL history last year and isn't going anywhere. Ryan may still have to answer to the league about the two's alleged "talks."

 Dawan Landry-DB- RavensJan. 31 - 11:13 am et
Beat writer Mark Cannizzaro speculates that the Jets could make a play for Ravens SS Dawan Landry.
Landry is set to become a restricted free agent that will be an expensive tender, so we doubt he's going anywhere. Of course, this would be a non-issue if the Jets bring back Kerry Rhodes.

 Kyle Wilson-DB- PlayerJan. 26 - 11:14 pm et
Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum had high praise for Boise State CB Kyle Wilson in an interview at the Senior Bowl Tuesday.
Wilson was a standout punt returner while doubling as a four-year starter for the Broncos. He also returned two of his senior-year interceptions for touchdowns. The more jobs you can do (the better)," Tannenbaum said. "I think he certainly will play for a long time, and he has good ball skills."

 Bills Offense-TM- BillsJan. 12 - 2:54 pm et
The Bills have requested and received permission to interview Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for their head-coaching job.
Schottenheimer's father, Marty, has a close relationship with new Bills GM Buddy Nix from their time together in San Diego. Jets coach Rex Ryan is already talking as if Schottenheimer will be gone after the playoffs. It's not clear when the interview will take place, as Schottenheimer is preparing for the Chargers this week.

 Chad Ochocinco-WR- BengalsJan. 6 - 11:47 am et
Jets FS Kerry Rhodes says Chad Ochocinco is scared to go over the middle.
"He doesn't like to come in between those numbers," Rhodes said. The Ocho, as usual, responded: "I'm not sure where Kerry gets that from. I've been getting smacked all year long. I don't know if he has seen the highlights." We'd side with Ochocinco on this one. Few wide receivers have taken as many hits this year, and plenty of Ochocinco's have been over the middle.

 Giants Defense-TM- GiantsJan. 5 - 10:08 am et
The National Football Post reports that the Giants are targeting Jets LBs coach Bob Sutton for their defensive coordinator vacancy.
Sutton has got nothing out of Vernon Gholston (zero sacks through two years), but helped 2008 second-round pick David Harris emerge as one of the game's top inside linebackers and OLB Calvin Pace smoothly transition to a full-time 3-4 defense. The Giants can interview Sutton after the Jets' playoff run.

 Bills Offense-TM- BillsJan. 4 - 5:14 pm et
According to NFL Network's Mike Lombardi, Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is a strong candidate to emerge as the favorite for the Bills' head coaching vacancy.
Schottenheimer has proven a versatile offensive mind, switching his system from fairly pass-oriented in 2008 to run-minded in 2009. Marty's son has interviewed for multiple head-coaching jobs before and handled both rookie and veteran quarterbacks, the position at which Buffalo is most desperate.

 Cedric Benson-RB- BengalsDec. 27 - 11:03 pm et
The NFL has flexed Week 17's Bengals-Jets game to Sunday Night Football.
The game was originally slated for 1ET. The Bengals have never won at the Meadowlands, where Giants Stadium is being replaced after the season. 10-5 Cincinnati is competing with 10-5 New England for the AFC's No. 3 seed. If the season ended today, the Pats would get it based on strength of schedule.

 Chris Perry-RB- BengalsDec. 23 - 7:58 am et
The Jets worked out free agent RB Chris Perry earlier this week.
None of the Jets' backs (Thomas Jones, Shonn Greene, Danny Woodhead) are known to be injured. They are also carrying Chauncey Washington, who they signed off the Cowboys practice squad last week and then deactivated him on Sunday. It's possible they just wanted to see what kind of shape Perry, a first-round pick in 2004, is in.

 Antonio Bryant-WR- BuccaneersDec. 14 - 1:48 pm et
The Jets used CB Darrelle Revis to shadow Antonio Bryant all over the field in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay.
Beat writer Rich Cimini described Revis as being "practically inside Bryant's uniform." Revis, a legit candidate for Defensive Player of the Year, had four pass breakups and an interception while holding Bryant to two catches for 22 yards. Bryant combined for 207 yards and a TD in his previous two games.

 Michael Crabtree-WR- 49ersNov. 23 - 7:29 pm et
The 49ers have dropped their tampering charge against the Jets for alleged early-season negotiations with former holdout Michael Crabtree.
San Francisco filed the charges in September when Crabtree was threatening to sit out the season. It's believed that the Jets contacted Crabtree's agent, Eugene Parker, about potentially trading for the first-round pick's rights. Crabtree's outstanding on-field play has made this a non-issue.

 Shaun Rogers-DL- BrownsOct. 20 - 8:07 am et
Beat writer Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer speculates that the Jets could inquire about DT Shaun Rogers as Tuesday's trade deadline approaches.
With Kris Jenkins (knee) down for the season, a move for Rogers would make sense. Also, Rogers was disgruntled in the offseason after some beefs with new coach Eric Mangini. In addition, DE Corey Williams is rumored to be on the trading block. Mangini, predictably, says no trades are imminent.

 Michael Crabtree-WR- 49ersOct. 7 - 10:09 am et
The tampering allegations made by the 49ers against the Jets over Michael Crabtree will not be withdrawn, according to a Profootballtalk.com source.
The case is still on the table even though Crabtree is now under contract and the Jets have their big-play receiver in Braylon Edwards. However, Profootballtalk's Mike Florio says there's "a sense that" the 49ers don't have enough evidence to make the allegation stick.

 Jason Trusnik-LB- BrownsOct. 7 - 8:55 am et
Browns acquired special teamer Jason Trusnik as part of the Braylon Edwards deal.
Trusnik, a reserve-caliber linebacker, is an excellent on special teams. He can help the winless Browns there immediately, but won't contribute on defense.

 Chansi Stuckey-WR- BrownsOct. 7 - 8:47 am et
Browns acquired WR Chansi Stuckey from the Jets as part of the Braylon Edwards deal.
Stuckey was the Jets' No. 2 receiver, but he was the third option behind Jerricho Cotchery and Dustin Keller. Once Stuckey gets acclimated to Cleveland's system, he'll be their No. 2 receiver as well by default. Rookie Mohamed Massaquoi broke out last week, but Mike Furrey, Josh Cribbs and Brian Robiskie fill out the weak corps. Stuckey is a smooth possession receiver, but isn't good enough to be a fantasy option in this offense.
 Michael Crabtree-WR- 49ersSep. 21 - 8:54 am et
According to the New York Daily News, the 49ers have filed tampering charges against the Jets for contacting Michael Crabtree's agent.
Crabtree is threatening to sit out the season and re-enter next year's draft. It's believed that the Jets contacted his agent to express interest in trading for his rights or drafting him in 2010 with a salary proposal greater than what the Niners are offering. The Jets are denying the allegations, but risk losing a draft pick or paying a hefty fine if Roger Goodell finds them guilty.
