A look at the top incoming freshman running backs for 2010

 Scott Tolzien-QB-BadgersMar. 13 - 10:15 am et
"I still take the approach that it is open competition," Wisconsin starting quarterback Scott Tolzien said. "You can't get complacent."
Offensive coordinator Paul Chryst is anxious to see how much Curt Phillips and Jon Budmayr push Tolzien this spring.  We don't think this will be much of a battle.  Tolzien established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the Big Ten, if not the country, last season.  He is highly underrated by the national pundits and the only thing keeping him from becoming a household name is Wisconsin's run game.

 Andrew Jones-TE-TigersMar. 13 - 10:00 am et
Missouri tight end Andrew Jones will sit out spring practice having surgery to repair a torn labrum he suffered last August.
Jones didn't quite meet the standard set for Mizzou tight ends, catching only eight passes in 2009.  The shoulder injury was likely a major reason why, and we could see a much different Jones in 2010.

 Markques Simas-WR-BuffaloesMar. 13 - 10:00 am et
Colorado receiver Markques Simas was reinstated and back at practice on Friday.  Simas was suspended following last month's DUI arrest.
Simas has loads of talent but it is hard to take him seriously after missing considerable time due to suspensions and academics.

 Eugene Jarvis-RB-Golden FlashesMar. 13 - 10:00 am et
Kent State running back Eugene Jarvis will sit out spring practice as he continues to heal from a lacerated kidney.
ESPN's Graham Watson has a nice piece on her blog detailing the injury and showing just how tough the vertically challenged Jarvis is. All signs point to him being ready come this fall and worth a shot as a sleeper pick in 2010.

 Darron Thomas-QB-DucksMar. 13 - 10:00 am et
ESPN's Graham Watson takes a look the two contenders for the starting quarterback job for Oregon now that Jeremiah Masoli is suspended.  Nate Costa was the projected starter in 2008 before a knee injury sidelined him before the opener.  And Darron Thomas is a high-profile recruit that showed flashes against Boise St. in 2008.
Thomas is a big athletic quarterback and the future of Duck football, and it is hard to imagine him not getting the nod.  Especially considering Costa's injury history.

 Dan Buckner-WR-LonghornsMar. 13 - 10:00 am et
Texas transfer Dan Buckner is making a strong impression at Arizona's spring camp.  Coach Mike Stoops says the  wideout "has unlimited potential."
Buckner showed a glimpse of his potential early in 2009 for the Longhorns before injuries slowed him down.  If you are in a deep keeper league, you may want to consider investing a pick on Buckner for 2011.

 Terry Grant-RB-Crimson TideMar. 13 - 8:15 am et
Alabama running back Terry Grant, who would qualify for a medical red shirt this season has decided to forgo his fifth year of eligibility at Alabama. Grant carried 40 times for 166 yards and three touchdowns in 2009.
Terry Grant was a consistent performer for the Tide, but suffered from an injury plagued career. Grant had been working at wide receiver due to the depth of the Alabama backfield.
