Mehmet Okur is probably going to be out of a starting job this season. See who else could sit in our look at early position battles.

 Matt Barnes-G/F-LakersSep. 9 - 1:54 am et
Lakers swingman Matt Barnes was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on Wednesday on a felony domestic violence charge.
An incomplete 911 call prompted a police visit to Barnes' residence and deputies determined Barnes and the woman he lives with had been in a physical confrontation, during which Barnes prevented her from talking to 911 operators. Barnes was determined to be the primary aggressor and will be in court on Monday. He posted a $50,000 bond and was released on Wednesday night. Barnes already had limited fantasy value, which obviously takes another hit with this news.

 Omri Casspi-G/F-KingsSep. 9 - 1:02 am et
Police are investigating a possible hate crime after a swastika was painted on a mural depicting Kings forward Omri Casspi, who is Jewish.
We're not quite sure what to say here, other than you have to think this has an impact on Casspi's mindset entering the season. Casspi's the only Israeli-born player in the NBA.

 Dwyane Wade-G-HeatSep. 9 - 12:54 am et
Dwyane Wade's custody battle for his children began on Wednesday, as his summer of drama continues.
Wade has spent a ton of time dealing with judges, courts and legalities this summer, in addition to his free-agency bonanza in July. Hopefully all the distractions are out of the way by the time the season starts, but it's clear he's probably going to have more on his mind than just hoops this season.

 Andrew Bogut-C-BucksSep. 9 - 12:45 am et
Andrew Bogut, who could miss at least the first month of the season, tweeted that he is set to visit a hand specialist and have an MRI (presumably on his injured elbow) this week.
If the visits go well, he could receive some good news, but as of now he is a huge fantasy question mark as owners start preparing for fantasy drafts. Our guess is he'll miss at least the first month, but stay tuned for a new update in the near future.

 Carmelo Anthony-F-NuggetsSep. 9 - 12:25 am et
Carmelo Anthony reportedly wants to end up with the Bulls or Knicks, although the Bulls seem like a more likely destination, if the Nuggets cave to his trade demands.
Simply put, the Bulls have more assets to trade than the Knicks do, and could offer Luol Deng, Taj Gibson and James Johnson for the superstar. The Knicks would have a shot at signing Melo next summer, once Eddy Curry's ridiculous contract is finally off the books. But instead of being an attractive expiring contract, it doesn't sound like the Knicks are getting any interest from other teams in the oft-injured big man. Melo still hasn't met face to face with new Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri, and it's unknown if he ever will.

 Tyler Hansbrough-F-PacersSep. 9 - 12:03 am et
Tyler Hansbrough, who has been sidelined since December with vertigo stemming from an inner-ear infection, has still not been cleared for full basketball activity.
"When they release him to go, he'll go," Larry Bird said. "I don't know when that's going to happen...He's in top condition. I don't worry about Tyler as far as being in shape." With Troy Murphy in New Jersey, Hansbrough and Josh McRoberts are going to battle for the starting job and minutes this season. McRoberts actually looks like the favorite, simply because Hansbrough hasn't been able to shake this illness.

 Ron Artest-G/F-LakersSep. 8 - 8:35 pm et
Ron Artest said Wednesday that he plans on auctioning his championship ring for the benefit of a mental health charity without ever having worn it.
"You work so hard to get a ring, and now you have a chance to help more people than just yourself, instead of just satisfying yourself," he said. "What's better than that? For me, this is very important." Say what you will about Artest, but he's made giant steps in reparing his image after 'the brawl.'
