 Adam Jones-OF- Orioles Sep. 2 - 3:41 pm et

Adam Jones (back) is out of the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Red Sox.
Jones left Wednesday's game in the seventh inning due to upper back soreness, aggravating a previous injury. He's presumably day-to-day for now. Felix Pie will start in center field Thursday.

 John Maine-S- Mets Sep. 2 - 3:27 pm et

Mets transferred RHP John Maine from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Maine underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in July and is expected to be non-tendered by the Mets in December. He was cleared in order to make room for Mike Nickeas on the roster.
 Dallas Braden-S- Athletics Sep. 2 - 3:01 pm et

Dallas Braden left Thursday's game against the Yankees with cramps.
Insert punchline here. More specifically, he experienced some cramping due to the heat. We think he'll be fine for his next start. Braden allowed one run over five innings while striking out four, walking two and hitting a batter.
 Dallas Braden-S- Athletics Sep. 2 - 2:40 pm et

Dallas Braden left Thursday's game in the sixth inning with an apparent injury.
Braden hit Derek Jeter to begin the sixth inning and then was pulled from the game after throwing a pitch to Curtis Granderson. He was replaced by Jerry Blevins. No word on the nature of the injury, but we should have something relatively soon. Braden was responsible for Jeter when he left, but allowed one run over the first five innings.
 Alex Rodriguez-3B- Yankees Sep. 2 - 2:28 pm et

Jon Heyman of SI.com confirms that Alex Rodriguez fired Scott Boras as his agent.
According to Heyman, Rodriguez fired Boras via letter 45 days ago and has been "spending time" with Hollywood agent Guy Oseary. It isn't clear who his baseball agent is, but he is under contract through 2017. It should be the last contract of his career. Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com reported earlier today that Rodriguez is now represented by Pittsburgh attorney Jay Reisinger.
 Nick Swisher-OF- Yankees Sep. 2 - 2:13 pm et

Nick Swisher left Thursday's game with stiffness in his left knee.
Jack Curry of YES Network passed along the information first. We hope to get an update on his status after the game.
Carlos Delgado-1B- Red Sox Sep. 2 - 2:03 pm et

Carlos Delgado has a small muscle tear in his left hip, according to his agent David Sloane.
Delgado flew to Colorado on Wednesday in order to be examined by Dr. Marc Phillipon, who performed his previous two hip surgeries. He'll return to Pawtucket in order to go over the potential treatment options, however surgery hasn't been ruled out. "He felt fine when he signed," said Sloane. "He was playing. He was headed in right direction. All of a sudden, he felt pain there. Everything at this point is up in the air. He’s going to need some time to think about the next step." One wonders if that next step might be retirement.
 Nick Swisher-OF- Yankees Sep. 2 - 1:30 pm et

Nick Swisher left Thursday's game against the Athletics after the first inning for an undisclosed reason.
Swisher grounded out in the bottom of the first inning, but it was hard to notice any injury on the play. Curtis Granderson entered the game in the top of the second inning to play center field, while Austin Kearns moved to right field and Brett Gardner switched over to left. We'll pass along an update once we get it.
Dustin Pedroia-2B- Red Sox Sep. 2 - 12:49 pm et

Dustin Pedroia is expected to undergo surgery Friday at Massachusetts General Hospital in order to insert a screw in his ailing left foot.
It was decided that surgery was the appropriate course of action after Pedroia was examined Wednesday night by Massachusetts General Hospital foot specialist Dr. George Theodore in Baltimore, Maryland. Pedroia is done for the rest of the season, but we fully expect him to be ready for spring training.
 Alex Rodriguez-3B- Yankees Sep. 2 - 12:35 pm et

Alex Rodriguez (calf) fielded groundballs Thursday for the first time since going on the disabled list last month.
Rodriguez also participated in batting practice. He is eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list as soon as Sunday -- and that may very well still happen -- but he told reporters Wednesday that he would be willing to sit out until he feels as close to 100 percent as possible.
 Kris Medlen-R- Braves Sep. 2 - 12:29 pm et

Braves transferred RHP Kris Medlen from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Medlen was cleared to create a spot on the 40-man roster. The 24-year-old right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery last month and is expected to miss most of the 2011 season.
 Kurt Suzuki-C- Athletics Sep. 2 - 12:15 pm et

Kurt Suzuki is the designated hitter in Wednesday's lineup against the Yankees.
Landon Powell will start behind the dish and bat eighth against C.C. Sabathia.

 Daric Barton-1B- Athletics Sep. 2 - 12:12 pm et

Daric Barton is out of the starting lineup for Thursday afternoon's game against the Yankees.
He'll take a seat against the lefty C.C. Sabathia. Jeff Larish will start at first base in his place.

 Michael Nickeas-C- Mets Sep. 2 - 12:05 pm et

Mets purchased the contract of C Mike Nickeas from Triple-A Buffalo.
Nickeas was acquired from the Rangers way back in 2006 in exchange for Victor Diaz. The 27-year-old backstop batted .276/.389/.382 with five home runs and 33 RBI in 293 at-bats between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Buffalo. He'll be the third catcher in Queens.
 Conor Jackson-OF- Athletics Sep. 2 - 11:43 am et

Athletics manager Bob Geren said that Conor Jackson is expected to resume activity in a few weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia Wednesday.
The surgery went well, according to Geren. Jackson has expressed optimism about his chances of playing again this season, but we can probably count him out for the rest of the year. The 28-year-old batted just .236/.336/.327 with two home runs and 16 RBI over 208 at-bats between the A's and D-Backs this season and is now a prime candidate to be non-tendered come December. There's always the chance the A's could bring him back for less if they truly want him back.
 Wilkin Ramirez-OF- Braves Sep. 2 - 11:30 am et

Braves sent OF Wilkin Ramirez outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Ramirez was cleared in order to create some extra space on the 40-man roster for September call-ups. The 24-year-old outfielder was acquired from the Tigers for a player to be named later or cash at the trade deadline. He is batting .253/.337/.458 with four home runs and 14 RBI over his first 83 at-bats with Triple-A Gwinnett.
Carlos Delgado-1B- Red Sox Sep. 2 - 11:25 am et

Carlos Delgado flew to Colorado on Wednesday to consult Dr. Marc Phillipon about discomfort in his left hip.
This can't be good. Phillipon performed the previous two surgeries on Delgado's right hip. The veteran slugger was signed to a minor league contract on August 7, however he has appeared in just five games with Triple-A Pawtucket. We're not optimistic that his comeback attempt will continue.
 Alex Rodriguez-3B- Yankees Sep. 2 - 10:27 am et

A source tells Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com that Alex Rodriguez has fired agent Scott Boras and is now being represented by Pittsburgh attorney Jay Reisinger.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today had it first this morning, however the story mysteriously disappeared from the website. According to Calcaterra, Rodriguez fired Boras about a month ago, ending a working relationship dating back to when he was selected by the Mariners as the No. 1 overall pick in 1993. Reisinger's name may sound familiar because he has actually represented Rodriguez as his attorney for quite some time now. Locked up through 2017, Rodriguez obviously has other priorities to think about at this point of his career.
 Justin Upton-OF- Diamondbacks Sep. 2 - 10:03 am et

According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, the Diamondbacks will soon begin interviewing candidates to be their next general manager.
This isn't far off from what Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reported last week. According to Morosi, the D-Backs will interview at least six candidates: current interim general manager Jerry Dipoto, current assistant general manager Peter Woodfork, former Padres general manager Kevin Towers, Yanks VP Damon Oppenheimer, Dodgers assistant general manager for player development De Jon Watson and Dodgers assistant general manager for amateur and international scouting Logan White. Some of the candidates are new, but most we've heard for a while. The thought is that they would like to have a full-time general manager in place by the end of the season.
 Hisanori Takahashi-R- Mets Sep. 2 - 9:24 am et

Mets general manager Omar Minaya told David Waldstein of the New York Times that the team would like to re-sign Hisanori Takahashi.
"We’ve been very happy with him," said Minaya. "He’s done everything we’ve asked of him, and he’s shown the ability to pitch in New York. I’m sure we’ll sit down after the season and, hopefully, we can work something out." The 35-year-old left-hander has been a pleasant surprise in his first season stateside, posting a 3.95 ERA in 12 starts and 28 relief appearances, averaging 8.4 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9. The Mets have used him as their closer recently, however Takahashi may want to see if he can find a chance to start elsewhere.
