 Russell Branyan-1B- Mariners Feb. 9 - 9:43 pm et

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Indians and Blue Jays are interested in free-agent first baseman Russell Branyan.
Both teams, however, are also interested in other hitters. Vanderbilt baseball coach Tim Corbin, who has seen Branyan work out recently, believes the veteran is healthy. "I see him every day in the weight room, doing all this core work," Corbin said. "I don’t know what the situation was with Seattle, but he looks good to me. He’s hitting every day with (Dan) Uggla and Khalil (Greene). I don’t see anything wrong." The 34-year-old Branyan hoped to receive a three-year deal this winter, but might now have to settle for a small one-year deal.

Rod Barajas-C- Blue Jays Feb. 9 - 9:39 pm et

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that two teams that have interest in free agent catcher Rod Barajas -- the Mets and Rangers -- are experiencing complications in their pursuit of the veteran.
Morosi writes that the Mets are out of money and the Rangers may be unable to increase payroll while in ownership transition. The 34-year-old Barajas smacked 19 homers last season. He should be cheap enough if either team can open up a nominal amount of money.

 Willy Taveras-OF- Athletics Feb. 9 - 9:19 pm et

According to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick, Astros general manager Ed Wade said he would be interested in bringing Willy Taveras to camp on a minor league contract if he clears waivers.
The Athletics released Taveras on Tuesday after trading for him from the Reds last week. With his mix of speed and solid defense, Taveras could be a solid fourth or fifth outfielder on most teams at a minimal cost -- including the Astros.

 Johnny Damon-OF- Yankees Feb. 9 - 9:15 pm et

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that fee agent outfielder Johnny Damon has not moved off his demand of a two-year contract.
And look where that has got him and agent Scott Boras. The Tigers, Rays and Braves appear to be in the mix for Damon, but obviously none of the three have met Damon's lofty demands yet. "We continue to monitor everything," Tigers club president/general manager Dave Dombrowski said. "I am not sure if we are close on anything."

 Mike Jacobs-DH- Royals Feb. 9 - 7:32 pm et

The Mets are close to an agreement with free agent first baseman Mike Jacobs on a minor league contract, reports ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.
He would get an invite to spring training as a non-roster invitee. Jacobs hit just .228/.297/.401 and struck out 132 times in 434 at-bats last year for the Royals, but he has a career .830 OPS against righties and boasts a decent amount of power. As far as no-risk fliers go, this is a decent one -- it wouldn't be shocking to see Jacobs enter into a platoon in New York.

 Yusmeiro Petit-R- Mariners Feb. 9 - 6:53 pm et

Mariners outrighted RHP Yusmiero Petit to Triple-A Tacoma.
The Mariners designated Petit for assignment last week after claiming him off waivers from the Diamondbacks earlier this offseason. The 24-year-old right-hander has a 5.57 career ERA over parts of four seasons in the majors. As an extreme flyball pitcher, he could see more success with the Mariners if he can ever crack their rotation.
 Gaby Hernandez-S- Mariners Feb. 9 - 6:51 pm et

Mariners outrighted RHP Gaby Hernandez to Triple-A Tacoma.
He was designated for assignment last weekend, but drew no interest on the waiver wire. Hernandez was acquired from the Marlins for Arthur Rhodes at the 2008 trade deadline. The 24-year-old posted a 5.23 ERA in 146 1/3 innings at Triple-A last year, and will return for another year of service in Tacoma.
 Levale Speigner-R- Mariners Feb. 9 - 6:47 pm et

Mariners signed RHP Levale Speigner to a minor league contract.
Remember in June 2007 when the Nationals acquired Speigner from the Twins for outfielder Darnell McDonald? No? Don't worry, there won't be a quiz. Speigner, a former Rule 5 pick of Washington's, posted a ghastly 9.19 ERA in 48 innings for the Nats between 2007-2008. He's been much better in the minors -- with a career 3.37 ERA in seven seasons -- and will provide Seattle's Triple-A affiliate with another arm.
 David Pauley-R- Mariners Feb. 9 - 6:41 pm et

Mariners signed RHP David Pauley to a minor league contract.
The 26-year-old is 65-64 with a 3.98 ERA in nine minor league seasons, but has posted a horrific 9.53 ERA in 28 1/3 career major league innings. He has no fantasy upside and will serve as organizational depth for the M's.
 Jarrod Washburn-S- Tigers Feb. 9 - 5:07 pm et

The Orioles have some interest in free agent left-hander Jarrod Washburn, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com.
While the club is in search of another starting pitcher after losing out on Bedard, a major league source tells Morosi that the "price would have to drop pretty far" for Baltimore to be a realistic landing spot. Washburn in the American League East could be positively unsightly, so the Orioles are probably better off with their younger, cheaper internal options.

 Chien-Ming Wang-S- Yankees Feb. 9 - 4:56 pm et

A source tells Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that free agent right-hander Chien-Ming Wang will decide on a new team in the next 7 to 10 days.
While the Mets and the Dodgers are lagging behind, Wang has received offers from a pair of unnamed clubs, according to Rosenthal. Various teams, including the Orioles, have expressed interest in the 29-year-old, although he is expected to miss the early part of the season as he rehabs from shoulder surgery.
 Jacque Jones-OF- Twins Feb. 9 - 3:04 pm et

Twins signed OF Jacque Jones to a minor league contract.
He'll also receives an invitation to Spring Training. Jones, who turns 35 in April, hasn't appeared in the major leagues since 2008 with the Marlins, but played well with the Newark Bears of the Atlantic League. A former second-round pick, Jones spent the first seven years of big league career in Minnesota. The .277/.326/.448 lifetime hitter will hope to catch on as an extra outfielder.
 Johnny Damon-OF- Yankees Feb. 9 - 2:51 pm et

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com hears that the Reds aren't in on free agent outfielder Johnny Damon.
Damon's agent Scott Boras would love it if they were, if for no other reason than to drive up his asking price, however the Reds probably reached their budgetary limit after signing Orlando Cabrera earlier this month. Damon's contributions on offense are too good for him to end up without a dance partner, even though Boras hasn't done him any favors.
 Armando Gabino-R- Orioles Feb. 9 - 1:44 pm et

Orioles designated RHP Armando Gabino for assignment.
He was cleared in order to make room for Mark Hendrickson on the team's 40-man roster. Gabino, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Twins in November. He spent most of the 2009 season with Minnesota's Triple-A squad, posting a 2.94 ERA and 64/24 K/BB ratio over 38 games (seven starts), but allowed seven runs over 3 2/3 innings during a brief stint with the big club.
 Mark Hendrickson-R- Orioles Feb. 9 - 1:38 pm et

Orioles signed LHP Mark Hendrickson to a one-year, $1.2 million contract with a $1.2 million team option for 2011.
The Orioles can buy out the option for $200,000, so Hendrickson is guaranteed $1.4 million. The 35-year-old left-hander was 6-5 with a 4.37 ERA in 53 games (11 starts) last season, but posted a 3.44 ERA and 37/14 K/BB in 55 innings out of the bullpen. He'll continue to be the team's swingman this season.
 Will Ohman-R- Orioles Feb. 9 - 1:24 pm et

Orioles signed left-hander Will Ohman to a minor league contract.
He'll battle for a spot as the team's left-handed specialist during Spring Training. Ohman, 32, was limited to just 21 games last season due to elbow and shoulder surgeries, posting a 5.84 ERA in 12 1/3 innings.
 Willy Taveras-OF- Athletics Feb. 9 - 1:14 pm et

Athletics released OF Willy Taveras.
And the $4 million that comes along with it. Nobody figured to take a bite on Taveras after he was designated by Oakland last week. He can now latch on with another club at the league minimum. Taveras, who turned 28 in December, batted just .240/.275/.285 in 404 at-bats last season. With his speed and solid defense, he could be a decent fourth or fifth outfielder on most teams at a minimal cost.
 Randy Winn-OF- Yankees Feb. 9 - 11:45 am et

Yankees signed OF Randy Winn to a one-year, $1.1 million contract.
The two sides agreed to terms in late January, but the signing wasn't made official until Monday afternoon. Winn, 35, batted .262/.318/.353 last season with two home runs and 51 RBI in 597 plate appearances for the Giants. He was awful against left-handed pitching last year and is likely to serve in a left field platoon this season with Brett Gardner.
 Jamey Wright-R- Indians Feb. 9 - 11:31 am et

Indians signed RHP Jamey Wright to a minor league contract.
Wright also drew interest this winter from the Astros, Royals and Pirates, but the Tribe secured him on Tuesday with a deal that includes an invitation to spring training. The 35-year-old was 3-5 with a 4.33 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 65 relief appearances for Kansas City last season.
 Jason Isringhausen-R- Rays Feb. 9 - 10:23 am et

Jason Isringhausen (elbow) told KSLG 1380-AM in St. Louis Tuesday that he plans to pitch in the major leagues this season.
Izzy has been playing catch in the St. Louis area this winter with Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter and told a local radio station Tuesday morning that there's a "90 percent chance" he will sign a contract with a big league squad. We'll see about that. The 37-year-old right-hander has undergone 10 surgical procedures for various ailments during his 14-year professional career and most recently underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.
