 Jason Heyward-OF- Braves Feb. 5 - 9:38 am et

Braves manager Bobby Cox confirmed Thursday that he's considering having Jason Heyward begin the 2010 season in the big leagues.
"He’s virtually skipping Triple-A if he makes the team," manager Bobby Cox said Thursday. "That doesn’t happen often. But in his case we just feel that he should, if he’s going to come to spring training, be given a crack at it." The 20-year-old Heyward went 4-for-11 during his debut at the Triple-A level last season and batted .323/.408/.555 in 362 at-bats overall.
 Garret Anderson-OF- Braves Jan. 30 - 5:31 pm et

Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers have been in contact with agent Scott Boras in regards to free agent outfielder Garret Anderson.
Anderson, who turns 38 in June, batted .268/.303/.410 with 13 home runs, 61 RBI and a 705 OPS last season. If signed, he would be the team's fourth outfielder. Rating poor with defensive metrics, this means that Jason Repko and Xavier Paul would compete to be the team's fifth outfielder and backup center fielder.
 Garret Anderson-OF- Braves Jan. 28 - 11:05 am et

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Dodgers have interest in free agent Garret Anderson, among others, as a potential fourth outfielder.
The Dodgers figured to add a veteran outfielder to the mix and should be able to find a reasonable bargain in the coming weeks. Anderson, 37, batted .268/.303/.410 with 13 home runs, 61 RBI and a 705 OPS last season, mediocre production for a player who brings little to the table defensively. Once the Dodgers secure a fourth outfielder, Jason Repko and Xavier Paul are expected to battle it out for one spot.

 Jordan Schafer-OF- Braves Jan. 22 - 6:56 pm et

Jordan Schafer (wrist) told David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he began hitting two weeks ago and feels no pain for the first time since last April.
Schafer batted just .204 with two home runs, eight RBI and 63 strikeouts in 167 at-bats last season before being demoted by the end of May, but felt a pop in his left wrist in early-April, likely contributing to his struggles. He continued to play with pain until finally undergoing surgery in September. Once heralded as a top prospect, the 23-year-old Schafer is confident about a rebound. "I know everybody doubts me now because of what happened last year... But I have no doubts about myself," said Schafer. The Braves could still add another outfielder, but if healhty, he has an outside shot of winning a spot on the Opening Day roster.
 Peter Moylan-R- Braves Jan. 19 - 4:11 pm et

The Braves and RHP Peter Moylan avoided arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.15 million contract.
It was his first shot at arbitration. Moylan, 31, showed no ill effects of his Tommy John surgery, posting a 2.84 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 87 appearances last season, impressive numbers considering that he had a 4.62 ERA at the All-Star break.
 Tom Glavine-S- Braves Jan. 14 - 8:40 pm et

Tom Glavine is talking to the Braves about accepting a role as an announcer or a front-office executive for the upcoming season.
Glavine was considering a comeback this winter but he probably didn't get many phone calls. He had a 5.54 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 63 1/3 innings for the Braves in 2008 and turns 44 this March. "We're talking about a hodgepodge of things," Glavine said Thursday. "I don't want to commit to something and then determine that I don't like it or that the club doesn't like me in that role. That's why I may get a taste of a couple of different things."
 Melky Cabrera-OF- Braves Jan. 14 - 11:10 am et

Enrique Rojas of ESPN.com reports that the Braves avoided arbitration with outfielder Melky Cabrera by signing him to a one-year, $3.1 million contract.
Cabrera was acquired from the Yankees as part of the Javier Vazquez traded last month. He batted .274/.336/.416 with 13 home runs, 28 doubles and 68 RBI in 485 at-bats for the Yankees in '09 and is slated to start the season as the starting left fielder in Atlanta. He earned $1.4 million last season.
 Eric Hinske-OF- Braves Jan. 12 - 2:22 pm et

Braves signed infielder-outfielder Eric Hinske to a one-year, $1 million contract.
After appearing in three straight World Series, baseball's good luck charm heads to Atlanta. Hinske, 32, could take home an additional $500,000 in performance incentives. The veteran batted .242/.348/.432 with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 190 at-bats between the Pirates and Yankees in '09. He'll be a useful left-handed bat who can play both corner outfield positions as well as first and third base.
 Derek Lowe-S- Braves Jan. 8 - 2:46 pm et

Derek Lowe told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Friday that he is unaffected by the trade rumors that swirled around him this offseason.
The Braves entered the winter season hoping to deal Lowe, presumably, but instead found a deal they liked for Javier Vazquez. "What are we, 6-7 weeks away? I think the happy holidays are over, and we’re looking forward to spring training," Lowe told the AJC's Dave O'Brien. He had a 6.65 ERA in his final nine starts of the 2009 season but is ready to prove he's better than that. The righty is a fine late-round value pick in any fantasy format this year.
 Eric Hinske-OF- Braves Jan. 7 - 6:18 pm et

Newly signed outfielder Eric Hinkse is scheduled to undergo his physical for the Braves next Tuesday.
Hinske agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Atlanta earlier this week to serve as a utilityman and left-handed pinch hitter. He will earn $1 million in base salary and can rack up another $500,000 through performance-based incentives. The 32-year-old batted .242/.348/.432 with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 190 at-bats between the Pirates and Yankees last season.
 Eric Hinske-OF- Braves Jan. 7 - 2:50 pm et

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Eric Hinske will be paid a $1 million base salary in his new contract with the Braves.
The contract includes some additional incentives, although O'Brien doesn't have the specifics. Hinkse, batted .242/.348/.432 with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 190 at-bats with the Pirates and Yankees last season. Hinske hasn't taken his physical yet, so an official announcement won't be made until next week.

 Eric Hinske-OF- Braves Jan. 5 - 10:44 pm et

Scott Miller of CBSSports.com reports that the Braves have signed free agent utility man Eric Hinske.
The new deal is pending a physical. According to Miller, the terms of the new contract are not yet known. Hinske, 32, batted .242/.348/.432 with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 190 at-bats between the Pirates and Yankees last season. He's a useful lefty bat that can play the corner outfield positions and even first and third base.

 Troy Glaus-3B- Braves Jan. 5 - 2:52 pm et

Braves signed third baseman Troy Glaus to a one-year, $1.75 million contract.
Glaus has a chance to earn additional incentives, some of which will be easily attainable. He is expected to be Atlanta's first baseman in 2010, but has only played six games there during his 12-year career. Glaus played in only 14 games this past year because of shoulder and back issues, but hit .270/.372/.483 in 2008 with 27 home runs and 99 RBI over 151 contests. He is very capable of a rebound. This is a nice low-risk signing by the Braves.
 Chipper Jones-3B- Braves Jan. 1 - 2:18 pm et

Chipper Jones told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday that he's taking a "year-to-year" approach on retirement.
Jones finished with a relatively disappointing .264/.388/.430 batting line in 2009 despite being healthy for most of the season and shocked Braves fans when he brought up the idea of retirement in early September. He's hoping to turn things around in 2010. "If I go out and produce and have the same kind of season I always have had," Jones said, "everything will be fine."
 Chipper Jones-3B- Braves Dec. 28 - 8:44 am et

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution believes that the Braves have at least $7 million left in their offseason budget.
The Braves shed the $11.5 million owed to Javier Vazquez last week and quickly nabbed Troy Glaus to play first base for around $2 million. They aren't done. Frank Wren is still considering another bat, possibly an Xavier Nady-type who can play left field and first base, or second baseman Dan Uggla, returning Martin Prado to his familiar super-utility role. According to O'Brien, the newly-acquired Melky Cabrera could be a trade chip in a possible deal for Uggla or an outfielder.
 Troy Glaus-3B- Braves Dec. 23 - 1:33 pm et

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Troy Glaus will earn a base salary around $2 million in his new contract with the Braves, with a chance for additional incentives.
Terms haven't been made official, but the Braves should have at least some breathing room to find a bat for their outfield, as well. The Glaus signing won't be official under after the holidays, as he'll have to undergo a physical. The Braves have done their due diligence leading up to the signing, and Glaus recently received a positive report on his surgically-repaired shoulder from Dr. Lewis Yocum, so the physical should be a mere formality. Glaus is expected to be Atlanta's first baseman in 2010, but has only played six games there during his 12-year career.

 Troy Glaus-3B- Braves Dec. 23 - 10:18 am et

According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Braves studied Troy Glaus' medical records closely before offering him a deal.
As they should have. Glaus underwent shoulder surgery back in January of 2009 and was expected to be fully healthy by mid-May. He had multiple setbacks in his recovery and eventually developed a back issue which strung his rehab out for months. He didn't don a St. Louis uniform until late September and the 33-year-old played in only 14 total games this year.

 Troy Glaus-3B- Braves Dec. 23 - 9:59 am et

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com confirms that the Braves have agreed to terms with Troy Glaus on a one-year, incentive-laden contract.
Rosenthal has also been informed that Adam LaRoche will indeed not be back with the club because his asking price was far too high. Glaus, 33, will open the 2010 season as Atlanta's starting first baseman. He played in only 14 games this year due to shoulder and back issues, but hit .270/.372/.483 in 2008 with 27 home runs and 99 RBI over 151 contests.

 Troy Glaus-3B- Braves Dec. 23 - 9:22 am et

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Braves are close to a deal with free agent infielder Troy Glaus.
Glaus will play first base in Atlanta, according to Rosenthal, which makes sense considering the shoulder problems he dealt with this year. It also means that free agent Adam LaRoche probably won't be back. Glaus, 33, played in only 14 games in 2009 but hit .270/.372/.483 the year before with 27 home runs and 99 RBI. He seems plenty capable of a rebound.

 Melky Cabrera-OF- Braves Dec. 22 - 12:52 pm et

Braves acquired OF Melky Cabrera, LHP Mike Dunn, RHP Arodys Vizcaino from the Yankees for RHP Javier Vazquez and LHP Boone Logan.
The Braves entered the offseason hoping to unload one of their many pitchers for a bat. Cabrera, like it or not, is their prize. He hit .274/.336/.416 this past season with 13 home runs, 28 doubles and 68 RBI in 485 at-bats for the Yankees and will take over starting left field duties in Atlanta. Maybe the move to an easier league will help his power shine through, but it's doubtful.
