 Armando Gabino-R- Orioles Feb. 9 - 1:44 pm et

Orioles designated RHP Armando Gabino for assignment.
He was cleared in order to make room for Mark Hendrickson on the team's 40-man roster. Gabino, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Twins in November. He spent most of the 2009 season with Minnesota's Triple-A squad, posting a 2.94 ERA and 64/24 K/BB ratio over 38 games (seven starts), but allowed seven runs over 3 2/3 innings during a brief stint with the big club.
 Mark Hendrickson-R- Orioles Feb. 9 - 1:38 pm et

Orioles signed LHP Mark Hendrickson to a one-year, $1.2 million contract with a $1.2 million team option for 2011.
The Orioles can buy out the option for $200,000, so Hendrickson is guaranteed $1.4 million. The 35-year-old left-hander was 6-5 with a 4.37 ERA in 53 games (11 starts) last season, but posted a 3.44 ERA and 37/14 K/BB in 55 innings out of the bullpen. He'll continue to be the team's swingman this season.
 Will Ohman-R- Orioles Feb. 9 - 1:24 pm et

Orioles signed left-hander Will Ohman to a minor league contract.
He'll battle for a spot as the team's left-handed specialist during Spring Training. Ohman, 32, was limited to just 21 games last season due to elbow and shoulder surgeries, posting a 5.84 ERA in 12 1/3 innings.
 Will Startup-R- Orioles Feb. 8 - 11:03 pm et

Orioles signed LHP Will Startup to a minor league contract.
Startup, a 2005 fifth-round pick, has never appeared in a major league game and isn't likely to find his way to Baltimore this season. He had a 4.76 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP between Single-A and Triple-A in 2009.
 Ty Wigginton-1B- Orioles Feb. 8 - 9:43 am et

Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com suggests that the Orioles could trade infielder Ty Wigginton before Opening Day.
Wigginton won't get many starts in Baltimore after the signings of Miguel Tejada and Garrett Atkins, but he could appeal to any number of teams in need of a right-handed bat. Wigginton, 32, batted .273/.314/.400 with 11 home runs and 41 RBI in 410 at-bats with the Orioles last season and has popped left-handers to an 840 OPS during his career. He is on tap to earn $3.5 million this season.
 Chris Tillman-S- Orioles Feb. 6 - 3:31 pm et

Manager Dave Trembley told Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com that there will be competition for the fifth spot in the rotation, possibly leaving Chris Tillman in the minors to start the season.
"Tillman is going to be a great young pitcher," said Trembley. "But things happen. Unfortunately, guys get hurt or the 12 pitchers you start the season with on your pitching staff usually aren't the 12 that you end up with. There are things that happen throughout the season. So we'll see what happens in spring training. We'll try to get guys in as many games as we can, give them innings, and may the best 12 go with us." Kevin Millwood, Jeremy Guthrie, Brad Bergesen and Brian Matusz figure to have the first four spots in the rotation, while Tillman, Jason Berken, David Hernandez, Troy Patton and Jake Arrieta will at least get a look during camp. Tillman, who turns 22 in April, posted a 5.40 ERA in 12 starts with the Orioles last season. We still think he'll start the season with the Orioles, but it's a storyline worth watching.
 Joel Guzman-3B- Orioles Feb. 4 - 7:05 pm et

Orioles signed infielder Joel Guzman to a minor league contract.
The deal does not include an invitation to spring training. Guzman, 25, hita a combined .268/.338/.421 with 12 homers between the Nationals' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates last season. He was once considered one of baseball's top prospects, but that was many years ago.
 Dennis Sarfate-R- Orioles Feb. 3 - 4:52 pm et

Orioles outrighted RHP Dennis Sarfate to Triple-A Norfolk.
Sarfate was designated for assignment after the Orioles signed Miguel Tejada last week, but he managed to pass through waivers. He'll be invited to Spring Training. The 28-year-old right-hander compiled a 5.09 ERA in 20 relief appearances last season, but his season was interrupted by a circulatory problem in his right hand.
 David Hernandez-S- Orioles Jan. 31 - 11:52 am et

Orioles pitching coach Rick Kranitz believes either David Hernandez or Jason Berken could open 2010 in the bullpen.
Kranitz is a believer in breaking in young pitchers in the bullpen, a practice the Orioles pioneered decades ago and Kranitz has experience with in Florida. Hernandez has been bantered about as a possible relief convert, and the process may begin this year. The two, along with Brad Bergesen, are battling for the final spot in Baltimore's starting rotation.

 Will Ohman-R- Orioles Jan. 31 - 8:22 am et

Seven or eight teams watched Will Ohman pitch last week, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
Ohman is coming off elbow and shoulder surgery that cut his 2009 season short. The 32 year old is currently throwing in the mid-80s although his velocity is expected to rise. The left-hander is being chased most aggressively by the Orioles, Royals and Blue Jays.
 Koji Uehara-R- Orioles Jan. 30 - 11:25 am et

Koji Uehara is reportedly healthy and throwing in Japan.
Uehara's right elbow had a torn tendon, ending his season in June. In his first year stateside, the right-hander finished with a 4.05 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 12 starts. This upcoming year will see a shift to the bullpen to address stamina issues. He figures to pitch in a late-inning role.

 Armando Gabino-R- Orioles Jan. 29 - 9:54 am et

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun believes the O's will designate Armando Gabino for assignment in order to clear roster space for Mark Hendrickson.
Gabino, 26, posted a 2.94 ERA and a 64/24 K/BB ratio in 98 innings at the Twins' Triple-A affiliate in Rochester, New York last season. He was claimed off waivers by the O's this November but they have to get rid of someone to clear 40-man roster room for Hendrickson's re-signing. Gabino should have no trouble finding employment elsewhere before spring training opens.
 Mark Hendrickson-R- Orioles Jan. 28 - 8:40 am et

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have signed left-hander Mark Hendrickson to a one-year, $1.2 million contract with a $1.2 million team option for 2011, pending a physical.
The option has a $200,000 buyout on it, so Hendrickson will be guaranteed $1.4 million. It was a long-awaited move, as the 35-year-old southpaw was expected to return to Baltimore all along. Hendrickson was 6-5 with a 4.37 ERA in 53 games (11 starts) last season, but was far more effective out of the bullpen, posting a 3.44 ERA and 37/14 K/BB ratio in 55 innings. The Orioles will have to announce a corresponding roster move before adding him to the 40-man roster.
 Dennis Sarfate-R- Orioles Jan. 27 - 3:55 pm et

Orioles designated RHP Dennis Sarfate for assignment.
As expected, Sarfate was cleared in order to make room for the newly-signed Miguel Tejada. Sarfate posted a 5.09 ERA in 20 relief appearances last season, but was bothered by a circulatory problem in his right hand all season, causing numbness in his middle finger. Reports about his recent stint in the Mexican Winter League have been overwhelmingly positive and he still has a very live arm, so look for somebody to take a chance on him.
 Dennis Sarfate-R- Orioles Jan. 27 - 2:38 pm et

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun suggests that right-hander Dennis Sarfate could be designated for assignment to make room for the newly-signed Miguel Tejada on the 40-man roster.
The Orioles held an introductory press conference for Tejada on Tuesday, but did not announce a corresponding roster move. Sarfate, who turns 29 in April, posted a 5.09 ERA in just 20 games last season due to a circulatory problem in his right hand. He reported no problems during a recent stint with the Mexican Winter League, and his velocity is reportedly back to the mid 90s again. Ironically, Sarfate was one of the five players the Orioles received from the Astros for Tejada in 2007.
 Will Ohman-R- Orioles Jan. 27 - 12:12 pm et

The Orioles have made an offer to free agent reliever Will Ohman, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun.
The Dodgers declined Ohman's $2.2 million option for 2010 in early November, thus launching him into the open market. He's found very little interest, probably because he posted a 5.84 ERA in 12 2/3 innings last year and is coming off arthroscopic shoulder surgery. The 32-year-old will throw for clubs this week in an effort to prove his health.

 Miguel Tejada-SS- Orioles Jan. 26 - 3:36 pm et

Orioles signed IF Miguel Tejada to a one-year, $6 million contract.
He has the opportunity to earn more with incentives, but he won't touch the $13 million he made last season. Tejada, who turns 36 in May, will make the transition to the third base upon his return to Baltimore, a position he has never played in the majors. The veteran batted .313/.340/.455 with 14 home runs and 86 RBI with the Astros last season, so he still adds plenty of value with the bat, but he's nothing more than a one-year stopgap until top prospect Josh Bell is ready to take the reins at the hot corner.
 Miguel Tejada-SS- Orioles Jan. 23 - 2:09 pm et

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that Miguel Tejada's one-year deal with the Orioles is worth $6 million.
According to Heyman he'll also get some incentives, but either way Tejada is taking a big pay cut after making $13 million last season. Tejada had a nice bounceback year in Houston, hitting .313/.340/.455, but drew a disturbingly low 19 walks in 158 games and struggled away from the Astros' hitter-friendly ballpark in both 2008 and 2009. His signing likely pushes Garrett Atkins to first base, with Ty Wigginton losing playing time.

 Miguel Tejada-SS- Orioles Jan. 23 - 12:21 pm et

Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have agreed to sign infielder Miguel Tejada to a one-year deal.
Terms of the agreement are not yet known, but Tejada will almost certainly be the club's third baseman with Garrett Atkins starting at first and Ty Wigginton assuming a backup role. Tejada could see some time behind shortstop Cesar Izturis, but it would be strictly in an emergency situation. The 35-year-old batted .313/.340/.455 with 46 doubles in 2009 as an Astro.

 Nick Markakis-OF- Orioles Jan. 22 - 8:25 pm et

During an appearance on 105.7 The Fan, team president Andy MacPhail said it's unlikely the Orioles will make a major move this weekend.
Some have speculated that the Orioles were preparing a big splash for their annual FanFest event on Saturday, but MacPhail put the kibosh on that. "If you're dealing with a free agent, an announcement would mean a player passed a physical," MacPhail said. "I don't see that being in the offing. I'd say the chances of us having somebody jump out from behind a curtain tomorrow is about zero." That being said, MacPhail did acknowledge he was still hopeful of picking up a corner infielder and a left-handed pitcher in the next week or so, leaving the returns of Miguel Tejada and Erik Bedard as possibilities.
