 Jamey Wright-R- Indians Feb. 9 - 11:31 am et

Indians signed RHP Jamey Wright to a minor league contract.
Wright also drew interest this winter from the Astros, Royals and Pirates, but the Tribe secured him on Tuesday with a deal that includes an invitation to spring training. The 35-year-old was 3-5 with a 4.33 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 65 relief appearances for Kansas City last season.
 Michael Brantley-OF- Indians Feb. 8 - 7:03 pm et

Indians manager Manny Acta acknowledged Monday that Michael Brantley is the front-runner for the club's starting left field job.
Brantley batted .313/.358/.348 with 11 RBI and four stolen bases in 28 games (112 at-bats) for the Tribe near the end of last season. "What he did in September gives him a leg up on the position," said Acta. "That being said, we all know he's 22 ... and we all have to do what's best for the Indians and for the kid himself." Trevor Crowe, Jordan Brown, Austin Kearns and Shelley Duncan will be competing for the same gig.
 Fausto Carmona-S- Indians Jan. 28 - 10:46 pm et

The Indians have explored the idea of trading Fausto Carmona in order to clear room in the budget for free agent second baseman Orlando Hudson.
"But the possibility is unlikely to come to fruition," a source tells FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. Carmona, 26, will be extremely hard to move. He had an ugly 5-12 record, 1.76 WHIP, 6.32 ERA and 79/70 K/BB ratio in 24 starts last year and was even demoted to Triple-A at one point. To make matters worse, he's owed $11 million over the next two seasons. The market for Hudson currently centers around the Nationals and Twins.

 Chris Perez-R- Indians Jan. 27 - 10:42 pm et

Chris Perez said he is "95 percent" healed from October surgery, removing a loose bone and cyst from the back of his left ankle.
Perez pitched through the injury during 2009, and says the injury didn't affect him due to a leg brace he wore. He expects to be healthy for Spring Training although the right-hander's left ankle is still a little weak. Worst case, he will pitch with the brace again. The 24 year old posted a 4.32 ERA in 33 1/3 innings after joining Cleveland and will pitch in a late-inning role.

 Carlos Santana-C- Indians Jan. 22 - 4:34 pm et

Indians catching prospect Carlos Santana (hand) is expected to begin the 2010 season at Triple-A Columbus, assuming he's healthy.
The Tribe will start Lou Marson at catcher and use Wyatt Toregas as his backup. Santana was impressive last season, batting .290/.413/.530 with 23 homers and 97 RBI for Double-A Akron, but he underwent surgery on his right hand in December and the Indians feel he still needs some grooming. "From a pure logic standpoint, the guy has not caught a game above Double-A," GM Mark Shapiro said Friday. "There's not a reason to push him."
 Rafael Perez-R- Indians Jan. 19 - 4:25 pm et

The Indians and LHP Rafael Perez avoided arbitration on Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $795,000 contract.
Perez was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. The 27-year-old southpaw took another pronounced step back last season, tallying a pathetic 7.31 ERA and 1.90 WHIP, while walking 25 batters in 48 innings (4.69 BB/9). He's going to need to find his command, and fast, in order to regain an important role in Cleveland's bullpen.
 Brian Bixler-SS- Indians Jan. 18 - 4:27 pm et

Indians acquired SS Brian Bixler from the Pirates for INF Jesus Brito.
Bixler is a career .178/.238/.237 hitter in 166 career major league plate appearances. Luckily his defense is better than his offense, and, with an ability to additionally play center field, Bixler has a chance to stick as a utility man with the Indians.
 Mike Redmond-C- Indians Jan. 15 - 10:32 am et

Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com reports that the Indians have agreed to terms on a contract with catcher Mike Redmond.
The financial terms are not yet available though it's doubtful the deal is worth more than $1 million. Redmond, 38, hit .237/.299/.289 in 135 at-bats last season. He will serve as Lou Marson's backup in 2010.

 Matt LaPorta-OF- Indians Jan. 12 - 3:27 pm et

Matt LaPorta (hip, toe) believes he is on track for the start of Spring Training.
"I should be able to start Spring Training with everybody else," said LaPorta. "I'll have another checkup with my doctors right before [Spring Training] to make sure I'm 100 percent. I'm on a good pace." LaPorta expects to be cleared for baseball activties next week after undergoing surgeries on his left hip and left big toe in October. The Indians intend to give the 25-year-old every opportunity at first base this season once he's able.

 Mark Grudzielanek-2B- Indians Jan. 12 - 10:31 am et

Indians signed 2B Mark Grudzielanek to a minor league contract.
Grudzy was released by the Twins last season after a short and unimpressive stint at their Double-A affiliate in New Britain. He turns 40 this year and hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2008. Needless to say, he's not likely to have any fantasy impact this season.
 Jhonny Peralta-3B- Indians Jan. 11 - 9:38 am et

Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Indians are not actively shopping infielder Jhonny Peralta.
The Twins and Cardinals are among teams still seeking a third baseman, but the Indians aren't pushing to move him at this time. With one year and $4.6 million left on his current contract, the Indians are probably hoping he can get off to a good start before they consider a trade. Peralta, 27, batted a disappointing .254/.316/.375 with 11 home runs and 83 RBI in '09.
 Austin Kearns-OF- Indians Jan. 5 - 11:43 am et

Indians signed OF Austin Kearns to a minor league contract.
The Nationals declined Kearns' $10 million option in November and then denied him arbitration in December. Both were easy decisions. The 29-year-old hit just .195/.336/.305 in 2009 and isn't likely to have much of an impact next season for the Tribe.
 Shelley Duncan-OF- Indians Jan. 4 - 8:56 pm et

Indians signed 1B-OF Shelley Duncan to a minor league contract.
Duncan, 30, hit an impressive .277/.370/.546 with 30 home runs and 99 RBI this past season for the Yankees' Triple-A Affiliate in Scranton. He has a measly .219/.290/.411 batting line in 146 major league at-bats, but the Indians don't have a ton of power on their depth chart and he might find time as a pinch-hitter.
 Rafael Perez-R- Indians Dec. 25 - 9:53 am et

Rafael Perez is 3-0 with a 0.33 ERA over six appearances -- five starts -- in the Dominican Winter League.
Perez made 54 appearances out of the bullpen in 2009 and came away with an ugly 7.31 ERA in 48 innings. He's been impressive as a starter down in the Dominican this winter but the Indians don't want to rush him into a new role and will probably keep him in the bullpen for the duration of the 2010 season. "Even if you wanted to do it, you would be putting him in harm's way," said Indians GM Mark Shapiro. "There's not any scenario where he could start 200 innings without endangering himself."
 Jhonny Peralta-3B- Indians Dec. 23 - 3:34 pm et

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Indians could be persuaded to trade shortstop-third baseman Jhonny Peralta if offered the right package.
Morosi floats the Twins as a possibility for their third base vacancy, though they are not actively pursuing the 27-year-old. Peralta suffered through a disappointing season in '09, batting .254/.316/.375 with 11 home runs, 83 RBI and a pathetic .690 OPS. He is owed $4.6 million next season, with a $7 million club option for 2011.
 Saul Rivera-R- Indians Dec. 21 - 1:46 pm et

Indians signed RHP Saul Rivera to a minor league contract.
The 32-year-old had a 6.10 ERA, a 1.62 WHIP and a 21/14 K/BB ratio in 38 1/3 innings this past season for the Nationals. He was released earlier this month. Rivera was 13-15 with a 4.05 ERA in 245 appearances for the Nats over the last four seasons. He has a shot to win a middle relief role with the Indians in spring training.
 Mitch Talbot-S- Indians Dec. 21 - 1:43 pm et

Indians acquired RHP Mitch Talbot from the Rays as the player to be named later for catcher Kelly Shoppach.
The 26-year-old is out of minor league options, so he is a heavy favorite to make the Indians opening day roster. Entering 2009, Talbot was rated by Baseball America as the Rays' 16th overall prospect. He was limited to 10 starts this past season while dealing with a right elbow sprain, finishing 4-4 with a 4.47 ERA for Triple-A Durham. In Talbot's minor league career, he is 62-54 with a 3.79 ERA in 165 starts. He has a shot at winning a rotation spot in Cleveland next season, but could also latch on as a long reliever.
 Jake Westbrook-S- Indians Dec. 17 - 9:59 am et

Jake Westbrook (elbow) successfully completed a four-game stint with the Ponce team in the Puerto Rican Winter League.
Westbrook allowed five runs in 12 1/3 innings (3.65 ERA) while striking out six and walking six. "He felt good the whole way," said general manager Mark Shapiro. "He found his stuff [Tuesday] night. He used all his pitches. It gives us and him greater peace of mind going into next year." Westbrook hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since 2008 due to Tommy John surgery, but he'll likely be Manny Acta's Opening Day starter next season.

 Travis Hafner-DH- Indians Dec. 16 - 3:37 pm et

Travis Hafner believes he'll be ready to play every day next season.
Hafner played more than three days in a row just once in 2009 due to lingering fatigue in his left shoulder. He has already begun his offseason hitting program, though, and hopes to build a good amount of strength before the start of the 2010 season. Hafner hit .272/.355/.470 this past year.
 Adam Miller-R- Indians Dec. 13 - 3:09 pm et

Indians re-signed RHP Adam Miller to a minor league contract.
Miller missed all of 2009 due to finger surgery and is in danger of missing most of the 2010 season as well. The 25-year-old right-hander was the Indians first-round pick in the 2003 first-year player draft.
