 Hector Luna-3B- Marlins Feb. 8 - 5:05 pm et

Marlins signed infielder Hector Luna to a minor league contract.
Luna is a career .270/.324/.388 hitter in 771 major league at-bats, although he hasn't appeared in the major leagues since 2008 with the Blue Jays. At one point, it looked like he'd be a useful utilityman, but he's struggled to stay in shape and dropped off offensively. The 30-year-old spent last season in the Dodgers organization.
 Vinny Rottino-C- Marlins Feb. 8 - 5:00 pm et

Marlins signed C Vinny Rottino to a minor league contract.
Rottino, a utilityman who has seen time at catcher and in the infield, received cups of coffee from the Brewers in each season from 2006-2008. He is a career .290/.356/.415 hitter in the minor leagues. The 29-year-old will never have a fantasy impact, but provides versatility and depth in the Florida system.
 Seth McClung-R- Marlins Feb. 1 - 6:56 pm et

Marlins signed RHP Seth McClung to a minor league contract.
The deal also comes with an invitation to spring training, where McClung will try to earn a spot in the Marlins' bullpen as a long releiver and mop-up man. The 28-year-old had a 4.94 ERA, a 40/39 K/BB ratio and a 1.63 WHIP in 62 innings (two starts) for the Brewers last season.
 Seth McClung-R- Marlins Feb. 1 - 6:21 pm et

According to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, free agent right-hander Seth McClung is close to inking a minor league deal with the Marlins.
McClung posted a lousy 4.94 ERA and an even uglier 1.63 WHIP in 62 innings (two starts) last season for the Brewers. He'll likely serve in a long relief role for the Fish and may even collect some emergency spot starts, but he should not register on many fantasy radars for drafts this spring.

 Jose Veras-R- Marlins Jan. 29 - 12:15 pm et

Marlins signed RHP Jose Veras to a minor league contract.
Veras was non-tendered by the Indians this winter after posting a 4.38 ERA and 22/14 K/BB ratio in 24 2/3 innings for the club last season. He also had a 5.96 ERA and 18/14 K/BB ratio in 25 2/3 frames for the Yankees. It's doubtful he has much of an impact this year in Florida.
 Derrick Turnbow-R- Marlins Jan. 29 - 11:56 am et

Marlins signed RHP Derrick Turnbow to a minor league contract.
With the deal comes an invitation to spring training, where Turnbow really needs to put on a show in order to secure a place in the Marlins' bullpen. The last time we saw him in the major leagues, the right-hander posted a 15.63 ERA and a 5/13 K/BB ratio in eight appearances (6 1/3 innings)
 Derrick Turnbow-R- Marlins Jan. 29 - 11:39 am et

ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Marlins have agreed to terms on a minor league contract with reliever Derrick Turnbow.
The deal also includes an invitation to spring training, where Turnbow will try to win himself a spot in Florida's bullpen. It's probably a longshot. The 32-year-old right-hander hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2008 and posted a 15.63 ERA in eight appearances that season.

 Derrick Turnbow-R- Marlins Jan. 28 - 3:20 pm et

Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that the Dodgers are one of the finalists for free agent reliever Derrick Turnbow.
What do they win? A pitcher who hasn't appeared in the majors since 2008, when he posted an obscene 15.63 ERA in eight appearances. The 31-year-old Turnbow asked for and was granted his release by the Rangers last May after putting up an 8.53 ERA and 9/1 K/BB ratio in 6 1/3 innings with Triple-A Oklahoma. It's incredible that so many teams are interested in a pitcher who never had any command to begin with.

 Kiko Calero-R- Marlins Jan. 28 - 8:54 am et

The Cubs are still in touch with free agent relievers Kiko Calero and Chan Ho Park, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com.
Hard to argue with either of them. Calero, 35, compiled a 1.95 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 69/30 K/BB ratio in 60 innings with the Marlins last season while the 36-year-old Park found success out of Philadelphia's pen, posting a 2.52 ERA in 50 innings. The Cubs could use another solid bullpen arm, but will probably take whoever is willing to accept a one-year deal.

 Derrick Turnbow-R- Marlins Jan. 26 - 5:12 pm et

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that the Diamondbacks and Rockies are interested in right-hander Derrick Turnbow.
Turnbow is expected to sign rather quickly. The 31-year-old right-hander hasn't appeared in the majors since 2008, when he posted an ugly 15.63 ERA in eight appearances with the Brewers. The Rockies have reportedly been the most aggressive in their interest.
 Cody Ross-OF- Marlins Jan. 25 - 8:24 pm et

The Marlins and Cody Ross have scheduled an arbitration hearing for February 15 to determine the outfielder's 2010 salary.
A three-person panel will be on hand in St. Petersburg, Florida to hear arguments and rule whether Ross will make the $4.45 million he requested last Tuesday or the $4.2 million that the Marlins offered. Ross, 29, hit an impressive .270/.321/.469 last season with 24 home runs and 90 RBI in 559 at-bats. The Marlins, though, haven't lost an arbitration case since 2002.
 Derrick Turnbow-R- Marlins Jan. 25 - 3:21 pm et

Derrick Turnbow is expected to land with a new team in the next two days, according to MLB.com's Thomas Harding.
Two weeks ago, Turnbow's throwing session in front of scouts was impressive enough to instigate negotiations with more than one franchise. The Rockies have been the team most mentioned as a potential Turnbow destination. The 31-year-old right-hander hasn't made a major league appearance since 2008 and posted a 15.63 ERA in eight outings that season. Colorado is also looking at Eric Gagne.

 Ricky Nolasco-S- Marlins Jan. 21 - 12:01 pm et

Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports that the Marlins will explore a multi-year deal for Ricky Nolasco if he has a strong season in 2010.
Nolasco is represented by Matt Sosnick, who just negotiated a new four-year deal for Josh Johnson, if that means anything. Nolasco, 27, experienced an up-and-down season in '09, finishing 13-9 with a 5.09 ERA, but his peripherals were still top-notch. The Marlins and Nolasco recently avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.8 million contract.
 Josh Johnson-S- Marlins Jan. 21 - 11:31 am et

Marlins signed RHP Josh Johnson to a four-year, $39 million contract.
Johnson's future in Florida was in doubt after the two sides reached an impasse with negotiations in November, but coincidental or not, they made considerable progress after MLB and the MLBPA singled out the Marlins for not spending enough of their revenue-sharing money on player payroll. The new contract buys out Johnson's final two years of arbitration and his first two years of free agency. Johnson, who turns 26 later this month, will earn $3.75 million in 2010, $7.75 million in 2011 and $13.75 million in In 2012 and 2013. Johnson has quickly emerged as one of the National League's best starters since his return from Tommy John surgery, going 15-5 with a 3.23 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 191 strikeouts in 209 innings with the Marlins last season.
 Kiko Calero-R- Marlins Jan. 20 - 9:08 pm et

The Cubs are negotiating with RHP Kiko Calero, reports FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi.
Calero posted a 1.97 ERA over 60 innings for the Marlins in 2009. A 10.4 K/9 is very attractive, but concerns with his torn rotator cuff in 2008 are scaring teams away from the two-year deal the 35 year old is asking for. Chicago is in need of a late-inning reliever, so Calero makes sense.

 Cody Ross-OF- Marlins Jan. 19 - 6:49 pm et

Cody Ross asked for $4.45 million and was offered $4.2 million from the Marlins when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
It's surprising to see how close the two sides are considering a report we filed earlier this afternoon stating that a hearing might actually be necessary. It seems like the parties should be able to find common ground within the next few weeks. Ross, 29, hit .270/.321/.469 last season with 24 home runs and 90 RBI in 559 at-bats while earning $2.25 million.
 Jorge Cantu-1B- Marlins Jan. 19 - 12:20 pm et

The Marlins and 1B Jorge Cantu avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $6 million contract.
Cantu, who turns 28 in late January, batted .289/.345/.443 last season with 16 home runs and 100 RBI. He landed a well-deserved raise from the $3.5 million salary that he earned in 2009. And with Nick Johnson out of the picture, he should see even more time as the club's first baseman in 2010.
 Cody Ross-OF- Marlins Jan. 19 - 12:18 pm et

The Marlins may require an arbitration hearing in order to work out a 2010 contract for outfielder Cody Ross.
The two sides have failed to reach agreement on a deal this winter. Ross, 29, hit .270/.321/.469 last season with 24 home runs and 90 RBI in 559 at-bats while earning $2.25 million. He's in line for a substantial raise but the budget-conscious Fish are typically hesitant to offer such things.

 Leo Nunez-R- Marlins Jan. 19 - 11:53 am et

The Marlins and RHP Leo Nunez avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $2 million contract.
Nunez finished with a 4.06 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP and tallied 26 saves in 33 opportunities last season. He will open spring training as the club's closer and should carry the role into the regular season, but the Marlins always have several youngsters ready to step in should the front-runner slip up.
 Dan Uggla-2B- Marlins Jan. 19 - 11:19 am et

MLB.com beat writer Joe Frisaro doesn't believe the Marlins are still shopping second baseman Dan Uggla.
The Miami Herald's Clark Spencer reported Monday that Uggla was still alive on the traing block. From what Frisaro has gathered, though, talks haven't been serious since the Winter Meetings in early December. "The fact the Marlins are bringing Uggla back at $7.8 million means he fits into their 2010 budget," writes Frisaro. "So there is no mandate to move him."
