 Jeff Bianchi-2B- Royals Feb. 9 - 9:23 am et

Royals re-signed 2B Jeff Bianchi to a minor league contract.
Bianchi, 23, batted .308/.358/.405 with nine home runs, 70 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 490 at-bats last season while splitting 128 games between Single-A Wilmington and Double-A Northwest Arkansas. He's probably a year or two away from being ready to contribute on the big league level.
 Victor Marte-R- Royals Feb. 9 - 9:20 am et

Royals re-signed RHP Victor Marte to a minor league contract.
Marte was called up to the big leagues in September of last season and posted an ugly 8.25 ERA and 2.08 WHIP in 12 innings of relief. The 29-year-old righty had a 2.13 ERA and a 53/25 K/BB ratio in 42 1/3 frames during his time at Triple-A Omaha, though, and could find his way back to the majors this season.
 Mario Lisson-1B- Royals Jan. 25 - 7:20 pm et

Royals designated infielder Mario Lisson for assignment.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Rick Ankiel, who was signed to a one-year, $3.25 million contract this weekend. Lisson, 25, hit just .227/.283/.373 between Double-A and Triple-A last season.
 Rick Ankiel-OF- Royals Jan. 25 - 5:40 pm et

Rick Ankiel will be Kansas City's starting center fielder, while Jose Guillen is being shifted to designated hitter, according to GM Dayton Moore.
Scott Podsednik will take over in left field and last year's left fielder, David Dejesus, will move to right. The Royals apparently promised Ankiel the center field gig when they inked him to a one-year, $3.25 million contract Thursday. They might soon regret it. He boasts one of the best outfield arms in baseball, but he doesn't have great instincts in center and his range is poor.
 Rick Ankiel-OF- Royals Jan. 25 - 12:40 pm et

Royals signed OF Rick Ankiel to a one-year, $3.25 million contract with a $6 million mutual option for 2011.
Ankiel, 30, batted just .231/.285/.387 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI with the Cardinals last season. Coincidence or not, his production completely collapsed after he crashed into the center field fence last May. He'll be provided with a fine chance to re-establish his value in Kansas City, but the jury is still out on whether he can actually be a productive everyday player in the major leagues.
 Rick Ankiel-OF- Royals Jan. 21 - 11:56 pm et

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Royals have signed Rick Ankiel to a one-year, $3.25 million contract with a $6 million mutual option for 2011.
It's pretty impressive that agent Scott Boras was able to convince the Royals to add such a high-salary second-year mutual option, whether it's ever exercised or not. Ankiel has provided baseball with a few major storylines over the years, both positive and negative, but he hit just .231 with a .285 on-base percentage last season and has quite a few holes in his swing.

 Mike Jacobs-DH- Royals Jan. 21 - 9:16 pm et

Nationals GM Mike Rizzo told the MLB Network Wednesday that he has interest in free agent first baseman Mike Jacobs.
As MLB.com's Bill Ladson notes on Twitter, it's a mystery as to how Jacobs might fit in with the Nationals. The club is already committed to Adam Dunn at first base and Mike Morse is his current backup. "When reached by phone," writes Ladson, "Mike Jacobs sounded like a person who wanted to play every day." Let's hope the Nats aren't considering moving Dunn back to the outfield.

 Jamie Romak-OF- Royals Jan. 20 - 8:32 pm et

Royals signed OF Jamie Romak to a minor league contract.
Romak comes from the Pirates system, in which he hit for a terrible line of .191/.265/.313 across high-A Lynchburg and Double-A Altoona. The 23-year old is just one year removed from an .862 total OPS at the same levels in 2008, so can't be written off just yet.
 Robinson Tejeda-S- Royals Jan. 19 - 6:58 pm et

The Royals and RHP Robinson Tejeda avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $950,000 million contract.
Tejeda can earn another $50,000 in performance bonuses. He went 4-2 with a 3.54 ERA in 35 games last season and posted a 2.84 ERA in six September starts (five of those starts were against contenders). His poor command makes him an iffy bet going forward, but Tejeda has a decent shot to crack Kansas City's 2010 rotation.
 Alex Gordon-3B- Royals Jan. 19 - 6:53 pm et

The Royals and 3B Alex Gordon avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $1.15 million contract.
The second pick in the 2005 amateur draft underwent hip surgery last year and produced meager production when healthy -- .232 with six home runs and 22 RBIs in 49 games. Despite acquiring Josh Fields from the White Sox earlier this offseason, the Royals are committed to Gordon at third base. He is a sleeper candidate this coming season.
 Zack Greinke-S- Royals Jan. 13 - 12:21 pm et

The Royals have hired former Brewers manager Ned Yost as a special advisor to baseball operations.
Yost worked as a bullpen coach and third base coach under Bobby Cox in Atalanta for 12 seasons before moving on to manage the Brewers. He has a ton of experience and should bring some fresh ideas to the perennially disappointing Royals. Manager Trey Hillman may want to watch his backside.
 Matt Herges-R- Royals Jan. 11 - 2:50 pm et

Royals signed RHP Matt Herges to a minor league contract.
The deal includes an invite to spring training. The 39-year-old went 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA over 30 appearances for the Indians and Rockies in 2009. Herges has a good chance of cracking Kansas City's bullpen as a middle reliever out of camp.
 Scott Podsednik-OF- Royals Jan. 8 - 4:59 pm et

Royals signed OF Scott Podsednik to a one-year, $1.75 million contract with a $2 million club option for 2011.
Podsednik doesn't belong on a team that is supposed to be building for the future, but at least Kansas City GM Dayton Moore didn't overpay. The 33-year-old batted a respectable .304/.353/.412 with seven homers last season and will bring speed to the top of the Royals' lineup.
 Scott Podsednik-OF- Royals Jan. 8 - 4:46 pm et

Scott Podsednik's contract with the Royals includes an option for 2011.
Podsednik agreed to terms with the Royals early Friday morning and had his physical completed by Friday afternoon. The financial details have not been made available though it'd be shocking if his base salary in 2010 tops $2 million. The 33-year-old is a .277/.340/.381 career hitter.

 Rick Ankiel-OF- Royals Jan. 8 - 1:09 pm et

Agent Scott Boras said Friday that he is "starting to get a lot of conversation" about his client, outfielder Rick Ankiel.
Boras is currently trying to sell Ankiel as an everyday player, which probably won't go over well with most teams. He's provided baseball with a feel-good story over the last few years, but the 30-year-old outfielder hit just .231/.285/.387 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI in 372 at-bats last season.
 Scott Podsednik-OF- Royals Jan. 8 - 11:16 am et

Scott Podsednik is scheduled to take his physical for the Royals on Friday.
Podsednik agreed to terms on a contract with Kansas City on Friday morning and is expected to start in center field for the club in 2010. The financial terms of the deal have not yet been leaked though it'd be surprising if the contract tops $2 million. Podsednik, 33, batted .304/.353/.412 with seven homers and 30 stolen bases in 2009 but he's a .277/.340/.381 career hitter.

 Rick Ankiel-OF- Royals Jan. 8 - 10:02 am et

According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates appear to be shying away from free agent outfielder Rick Ankiel.
Ankiel's agent, Scott Boras, is selling his client as an everyday player and the Bucs are not prepared to guarantee him a starting job. The 30-year-old outfielder hit just .231/.285/.387 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI in 372 at-bats last season. He's not drawing much interest from other clubs around the league, so the Pirates might as well stick to their guns.

 Scott Podsednik-OF- Royals Jan. 8 - 9:28 am et

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports that the Royals have reached a preliminary agreement with outfielder Scott Podsednik.
And there it is. As Crasnick notes, Podsednik had been discussing one and even two-year deals with clubs this winter. Let's hope, for Kansas City fans, that his contract with the Royals is only for one year and worth just around $1 million. The 33-year-old outfielder had a nice comeback season in 2009 but he's not the answer to Dayton Moore and Co.'s woes.

 Scott Podsednik-OF- Royals Jan. 8 - 9:20 am et

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that outfielder Scott Podsednik has agreed to a contract with an unidentified team.
Royals GM Dayton Moore told 610 AM in Kansas City on Thursday evening that the club is very close to signing a "speed type player to add to our outfield." The 33-year-old Podsednik hit a respectable .304/.353/.412 with seven homers, 48 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 2009. Still, it doesn't make much sense for a supposed "rebuilding team" to ink an aging outfielder.

 Noel Arguelles-S- Royals Jan. 7 - 2:38 pm et

Royals signed LHP Noel Arguelles to a five-year contract.
Terms were not disclosed, however he is expected to earn roughly $7 million over the length of the contract. Arguelles, who turns 20 later this month, is the lesser-known Cuban left-hander this offseason, but he throws hard -- typically 91-94 mph -- with a quality changeup and developing curveball. It's an excellent acquisition for Dayton Moore, who essentially just bought his organization the equivalent of another first-round pick.
