 John Bowker-OF- Giants Feb. 6 - 4:16 pm et

General manager Brian Sabean said that John Bowker is not a candidate to play right field.
Depending on Freddy Sanchez's progress, this could kill Bowker's chance at regular playing time this season. Mark DeRosa figures to be the everyday left fielder, so once the projected lineup is in place, regular at-bats are going to be hard time come by. Bowker, 26, batted .194 with two home runs and seven RBI in 67 at-bats with the Giants last season, but torched Triple-A Fresno, batting .342 with 21 home runs and 83 RBI.
 Tim Lincecum-S- Giants Feb. 5 - 11:04 pm et

Tim Lincecum told Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News that he won't let an arbitration hearing with the Giants turn into a "grudge match."
"I'm just trying to keep an open mind," said Lincecum. "If anybody knows my flaws, I do. If they're going to point them out and that has to happen, then whatever. I know I've got to get better. I don't feel like my feelings are hurt." The two-time Cy Young Award winner asked for $13 million and was offered $8 million when arbitration figures were disclosed in January. With such unprecedented success for a first-time arbitration-eligible starting pitcher, Baggarly speculates that the Giants could possibly bring up Lincecum's marijuana citation. It would be a low blow, but the 25-year-old acknowledges that the incident made him realize it's time for him to "grow up." According to the report, if an agreement cannot be reached, the hearing will be held sometime between February 10-15.
 Buster Posey-C- Giants Feb. 5 - 5:40 pm et

The Giants have considered giving catching prospect Buster Posey a look at a variety of infield positions this spring.
The Giants still view Posey as their future starting catcher, but he's blocked this year by Bengie Molina and a little versatility would only help his long-term value. Posey, who turns 23 in late March, batted .325/.416/.531 last season with 18 homers and 80 RBI between Single-A San Jose and Triple-A Fresno. He's likely to begin the 2010 season with Fresno.
 Madison Bumgarner-S- Giants Feb. 5 - 3:44 pm et

Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed Friday that Madison Bumgarner will head into spring training as the team's No. 5 starter.
It might not be the smartest strategy, but it sure is exciting. Bumgarner, who doesn't turn 21 until early August, had a 1.80 ERA in the 10 innings he pitched for the Giants last year. He spent most of the season at Single-A Connecticut and Double-A San Jose, where he rattled off a combined 12-2 record, 1.85 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 131 1/3 innings.
 Jesus Guzman-1B- Giants Feb. 5 - 8:41 am et

Jesus Guzman has cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Fresno.
The Giants designated Guzman for assignment in late January in order to clear room for the re-signing of veteran catcher Bengie Molina. Guzman, 25, made just 20 major league at-bats last season.
 Tim Lincecum-S- Giants Feb. 3 - 6:00 pm et

Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com reports that talks between the Giants and Tim Lincecum aren't going well.
Lincecum asked for $13 million and was offered $8 million when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. They already appear destined for a hearing, one that Lincecum will surely win, but multiple sources have told Urban that San Francisco's young ace has dismissed several two-year deals from the club. Proposing a two-year deal is telling, not only because he will have two more years of arbitration after the contract, but it may play into concerns about his durability. That's pretty much the only leg the Giants have to stand on when a pitcher wins consecutive Cy Young awards, but this could get more contentious than they would have hoped.
 Tim Lincecum-S- Giants Feb. 3 - 8:50 am et

Tim Lincecum is likely headed to an arbitration hearing with the Giants in order to determine his 2010 salary.
Lincecum asked for $13 million and was offered $8 million when arbitration figures were exchanged two weeks ago. Little progress has been made toward a compromise. "I think that's the direction (a hearing) they've wanted this to go from Day 1," said the ace's agent, Rick Thurman, "simply because there's been little or no discussions with regards to a contract."
 Guillermo Mota-R- Giants Feb. 2 - 7:00 pm et

The Giants signed RHP Guillermo Mota to a minor league contract, according to the San Jose Mercury News' Andrew Baggarly.
He also receives an invite to spring training. Mota posted a 3.44 ERA in 61 games for the Dodgers last season. The Giants are hoping he can come close to replicating that success; if he does, he'd be a fine replacement for Bob Howry, who signed with Arizona.
 Rich Aurilia-1B- Giants Feb. 2 - 5:17 pm et

Rich Aurilia hopes to play with the Mets or Yankees this season, reports Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News.
"We know nothing is imminent, but hopefully we keep in contact with them," said the Brooklyn-native and St. John's graduate. "It’s just been preliminary, but they said there could be some interest down the road. So I’m concentrating more on just making sure my body is ready. I still have the desire to compete and play. I can contribute. I’ve been throwing, swinging the bat and actually feel pretty good." The 38-year-old infielder was limited to just 60 games last season due to an ankle injury, batting .213/.256/.279 with two homers and 16 RBI in 122 at-bats. An invite to Spring Training isn't out of the question for either team, but he's unlikely to add much usefulness at this stage of his career.

 Noah Lowry-S- Giants Feb. 1 - 4:39 pm et

Noah Lowry delayed a Tuesday throwing session for major league scouts in Phoenix because he wants more time to get ready for the audition.
That this was done 24-hours before the exhibition probably won't endear Lowry to scouts. He hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2007 due in large part to his battle with thoracic outlet syndrome. Lowry had a 4.03 ERA from 2003-2007 with the Giants, however, and is hoping to prove his health during the throwing session. The Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers, Mariners, Cubs, Nationals and Mets were expected to attend, along with a few others.
 Horacio Ramirez-R- Giants Feb. 1 - 3:56 pm et

Giants signed LHP Horacio Ramirez to a minor league contract.
Ramirez hasn't even been passable since going 12-4 with a 4.00 ERA as a rookie for the Braves in 2003. Now 30, Ramirez has posted a 6.32 ERA in the majors since 2007. He has only an outside change of cracking San Francisco's bullpen.
 Justin Knoedler-C- Giants Feb. 1 - 3:43 pm et

Dodgers signed catcher Justin Knoedler to a minor league contract.
He was also invited to spring training. The 29-year-old will need an injury to crack Los Angeles' major league roster because the club has a crowded and talented catching depth chart.
 Byung-Hyun Kim-R- Giants Feb. 1 - 2:41 pm et

ESPN.com reports that the Giants have signed Byung-Hyun Kim to a minor league contract.
He also gets an invite to spring training. Kim was last seen in spring training of 2008; the Pirates bought out his one-year contract for $300,000 after it was clear he was not ready to handle major league batters. He went 8-3 with a 2.04 ERA and 36 saves for the Diamondbacks in 2002, but it's all been downhill from there and it's unclear whether or not he can ever again be a competent major league contributor. The 31-year-old will compete for a bullpen spot with the Giants in spring training.

 Brian Wilson-R- Giants Jan. 30 - 9:25 pm et

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Giants and Brian Wilson have avoided arbitration with a one-year deal.
It will be worth $4,437,500, the midpoint between the $4 million and $4.875 million figures submitted earlier this month.

 Pablo Sandoval-3B- Giants Jan. 29 - 5:48 pm et

Pablo Sandoval has returned to Venezuela to participate in Game 7 of the country's winter league championship.
Sandoval spent several weeks this winter down in Venezuela, playing for Magallanes. He was summoned back to the states this week but the Giants have granted him permission to return and help his team in one of the country's biggest sporting events. Let's all hope he doesn't get hurt.
 Noah Lowry-S- Giants Jan. 29 - 10:55 am et

The Phillies are sending a representative to Phoenix, Arizona next Tuesday to watch free agent left-hander Noah Lowry throw.
Lowry hasn't pitched in a major league game since 2007 due in large part to his battle with thoracic outlet syndrome. He had a 4.03 ERA from 2003-2007 with the Giants, though, and is hoping to prove his health with a short throwing session. The Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers, Mariners, Cubs, Nationals and Mets are also expected to attend, along with a few others.
 Noah Lowry-S- Giants Jan. 26 - 5:40 pm et

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, free agent left-hander Noah Lowry will hold a private workout for interested teams next Tuesday in Phoenix.
About 15 teams are expected to be in attendance, including the Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers, Mariners, Cubs, Nationals and Mets. Lowry, 29, hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since 2007 due to thoracic outlet syndrome, but had a 4.03 ERA from 2003-2007 with San Francisco. Lowry is looking for an incentive-laden one-year deal before jumping back into free agency next winter.
 Noah Lowry-S- Giants Jan. 22 - 8:08 pm et

Updating a previous item, Corey Brock of MLB.com writes that it's "nearly certain" the Padres aren't in on free agent left-hander Noah Lowry.
Brock says the Padres can't afford to miss with their remaining funds being rather scarce. The Padres are seeking durability and dependability in their rotation, two traits that Lowry simply can't offer. The 29-year-old southpaw hasn't appeared in a major league game since the 2007 season.

 Noah Lowry-S- Giants Jan. 22 - 6:18 pm et

Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that free agent left-hander Noah Lowry is close to deciding on a team.
He adds that it's "not the Giants," which shouldn't surprise anyone who has followed his medical history over the past couple of seasons. Lowry, 29, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2007 due to various maladies, ranging from his forearm to his rib. For what it's worth, earlier this month, Lowry's agent Damon Lapa indicated that the prospect of his client joining the Padres "would not be a difficult sell."
 Jesus Guzman-1B- Giants Jan. 22 - 5:46 pm et

Giants designated infielder Jesus Guzman for assignment.
The move clears the way for catcher Bengie Molina's glorious return to San Francisco's 40-man roster. Guzman, 25, made just 20 at-bats last season and tallied only five hits. His youth should land him a job elsewhere but the infielder is far from ready to make an impact on the major league level.
