 Will Blackmon-DB- Packers Sep. 2 - 3:37 pm et

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel projects KR/S Will Blackmon to be among the Packers' final cuts Saturday.
The paper also has rookie Jason Chery missing the cut, apparently locking Sam Shields and Jordy Nelson into the primary returner jobs. Once a game-breaking special teamer, Blackmon has been unable to overcome his 2009 ACL tear.
 Jeremiah Johnson-RB- Texans Sep. 2 - 3:30 pm et

The Texans' website confirms that Jeremiah Johnson has been promoted to No. 3 on the running back depth chart, ahead of Chris Henry.
Johnson, averaging 5.4 yards per preseason carry, has sewn up a roster spot, helped in part by Steve Slaton's turf toe. A one-cut back who plays faster than his 4.6 forty time indicates, he's worth rostering in Dynasty leagues.

 Ryan Torain-RB- Redskins Sep. 2 - 3:23 pm et

The Washington Post expects Ryan Torain to make the Redskins' final roster as the No. 3 tailback.
Keiland Williams would be No. 4, with Willie Parker getting the heave-ho. Though Torain averaged 3.13 YPC this preseason, he's familiar with the Shanahan scheme and will be worth grabbing if Clinton Portis goes down.
 Chris Cooley-TE- Redskins Sep. 2 - 3:19 pm et

The Washington Post believes that Chris Cooley could be headed for a career year this season.
Speculation that Fred Davis would "share time" with Cooley was overblown. The Post notes Cooley's "rapport" with Donovan McNabb, and constant two-tight end sets will make sure both players are on the field. Cooley was McNabb's favorite target in preseason action, and the tight end has never had as effective a quarterback. He's perhaps the most undervalued pick of 2010.
 Devin Thomas-WR- Redskins Sep. 2 - 3:05 pm et

Devin Thomas is expected to make the Redskins' roster because, at the very least, he's heavily involved on special teams.
Those speculating Thomas won't last through Saturday are just trying to generate hits for their websites. Thomas is the Skins' primary kick returner, and also runs down kicks and punts. Sure, he's been disappointing as a wide receiver, but the former No. 34 overall pick's roster spot is plenty safe.
 DeSean Jackson-WR- Eagles Sep. 2 - 2:42 pm et

DeSean Jackson is still feeling pain in his mouth after having his wisdom teeth removed on Monday.
At about 5 a.m. this morning, Jackson tweeted, "Just 4 ur info .... I don't wish this pain on no 1 ... [Stuff] woke me up outta my sleep kicc'n my [butt]. Can't wait for this [stuff] to be gone." The good news is that the time in bed and on pain killers likely has his upper back in fine shape. Draft D-Jax as you normally would.
 LeGarrette Blount-RB- Titans Sep. 2 - 2:39 pm et

Rookie RB LeGarrette Blount's knowledge of the playbook reportedly is "limited," and he can't pick up the blitz.
We like what we've seen from Blount as a power runner, but he offers nothing in the passing game and is in danger of missing Saturday's cut. Blount is a prime practice squad candidate. Because he's so one dimensional and lacks special teams value, the Titans should be able to get him through waivers.
 Michael Clayton-WR- Buccaneers Sep. 2 - 2:28 pm et

The Bucs reportedly informed Michael Clayton that he would be traded "several months ago."
Shockingly, they found no takers. In-over-his-head GM Mark Dominik guaranteed Clayton's $3.5 million salary, making a player who can't play impossible to trade. Now, the Bucs may keep him on the roster. "I'll believe it when it happens," Clayton said of his potential release. "But I can't see it." If Clayton does stick, he'd best help the team as a game-day inactive.
 Ronnie Brown-RB- Dolphins Sep. 2 - 2:16 pm et

Mike Berardino of the Sun-Sentinel predicts that we won't see the Wildcat out of the Dolphins as often this season.
The Dolphins have run just six Wildcat plays all preseason, with five of those snaps going to Ronnie Brown. As Chad Henne continues to develop with new weapon Brandon Marshall, the Wildcat figures to become a red-zone specialty weapon. Brown had eight touchdowns in nine games last season before a season-ending foot injury.
 Matt Leinart-QB- Cardinals Sep. 2 - 2:09 pm et

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said he plans to play Matt Leinart against the Redskins tonight.
The Cardinals will be taking a risk by allowing Leinart to showcase himself against the Redskins. If he gets hurt, any trade value he may have had is shot. Additionally, the Cardinals don't want to waive Leinart with an injury settlement. From Leinart's perspective, he wants to put something strong on tape to spark interest around the league.
 Julian Peterson-LB- Lions Sep. 2 - 2:08 pm et

The Lions have scrapped their plans to use SLB Julian Peterson as a third-down blitzer, instead opting to have him focus on coverage.
The team is betting that an improved front four of Ndamokung Suh, Corey Williams, Kyle Vanden Bosch, and Cliff Avril will handle the pass-rushing load. Peterson was one of Detroit's best blitzers last year, racking up five sacks, though his athleticism is hard to find in a strong-side linebacker.
 Jason Taylor-LB- Jets Sep. 2 - 2:04 pm et

Jason Taylor will be an every-down outside linebacker for the Jets until Calvin Pace returns from his fractured foot.
The initial plan was to use Taylor as a pass-rush specialist, playing roughly 75% of the snaps. He'll now play 100. Taylor did rack up seven sacks and three forced fumbles in 16 games last year, so he's not a bad target in big-play IDP leagues. His insertion may hurt the Jets' run defense, though.
 Antoine Caldwell-G- Texans Sep. 2 - 1:58 pm et

The battle for the Texans' right guard gig between Antonie Caldwell and Mike Brisiel is still ongoing.
It's final exam time in tonight's preseason finale. Caldwell entered camp as the starter but has failed to pull away. Brisiel is still dealing with pain in his foot, but started 25 straight games for the Texans between 2007-2009. Either one would be a versatile backup as the Texans revamp their running game. Wade Smith has been installed as the left guard.

 Ryan Fitzpatrick-QB- Bills Sep. 2 - 1:48 pm et

Ryan Fitzpatrick will not play in tonight's preseason finale against the Lions.
Trent Edwards is going to start the game, Brian Brohm will get about two quarters and Levi Brown will wrap it up. Fitzpatrick has apparently locked up the backup gig, so he doesn't have to fight it out tonight. Brohm is trying to hang on as the No. 3 quarterback.

 Brian Leonard-RB- Bengals Sep. 2 - 1:38 pm et

Brian Leonard (foot) could miss the first couple weeks of the regular season.
Leonard has a mid-foot sprain, which has the potential to turn into a Lisfranc injury. The Bengals will not rush their multi-dimensional runner back too quickly. Beat writer Joe Reedy expects Cedric Peerman to plug the gap as the No. 3 RB while Leonard is out.

 Joique Bell-RB- Bills Sep. 2 - 1:26 pm et

Joique Bell has his nose in front of Chad Simpson for the Bills' No. 4 running back job.
Bell, a low-level prospect, has made waves by averaging 6.5 yards per carry on 22 preseason rushes against second- and third-stringers. The Bills could choose to go with just three tailbacks if they are comfortable with Fred Jackson's health, leaving both Bell and Simpson off the roster.

 Pat Watkins-DB- Cowboys Sep. 2 - 1:08 pm et

Free agent S Pat Watkins visited the Bengals on Wednesday.
The Bengals are in the market for safety help with Gibril Wilson (knee) out for the year, and Watkins fits the bill. When healthy, the former Cowboy is an ace special teamer and decent backup safety. Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer was in Dallas during Watkins' rookie year in 2006.

 Jerome Harrison-RB- Browns Sep. 2 - 1:05 pm et

Beat writer Mary Kay Cabot expects Jerome Harrison to start in Week 1 because Montario Hardesty hasn't gotten enough reps in the preseason.
Note that Cabot didn't say Harrison will start because he's earned it. Instead, Harrison will likely get the nod simply because Hardesty was injured. It's a reminder that Hardesty is the one that the Browns' coaches want to take command of this committee. A good performance from Hardesty in tonight's preseason finale will go a long way.
 Jonathan Stewart-RB- Panthers Sep. 2 - 12:53 pm et

Jonathan Stewart (heel) is a game-time decision once again for tonight's preseason finale.
Stewart hasn't played a snap in the preseason, but we all know that doesn't matter at this point. By all accounts, Stewart's heel is in better shape now than it was a year ago. We're expecting 12-14 carries a game out of Stewart and a high production rate.
 Samkon Gado-RB- Titans Sep. 2 - 12:52 pm et

Titans coach Jeff Fisher says special teams' ability could give the competitor a leg up in the competition for the No. 3 running back battle between LeGarrette Blount and Samkon Gado.
That would seem to indicate Gado might be the favorite, as he's much more valuable on special teams. Gado has also entered the last two preseason games ahead of Blount. The smart money might be on Gado winning the No. 3 job, with the Titans trying to sneak Blount onto the practice squad.
