 Reggie Hayward-DL- Jaguars Feb. 8 - 4:34 pm et

Impending free agent DE Reggie Hayward plans to continue his playing career.
Hayward missed nearly all of 2009 with a fractured shin after taking a massive pay cut to stay on for his contract year. Though only 31 in March, Hayward's production has declined when healthy and he's suffered two major injuries in the last four seasons. He's uncertain to return to Jacksonville.

 Torry Holt-WR- Jaguars Feb. 8 - 3:57 pm et

Updating a previous item, Jaguars beat writer Michael C. Wright reports that the team will not make any roster moves on Monday.
The Florida Times Union reported Saturday that WR Torry Holt and OT Tra Thomas were informed they'd be released this week, but it appears the moves will have to wait until at least Tuesday. The cuts are still fully expected.

 Torry Holt-WR- Jaguars Feb. 7 - 9:13 am et

Beat writer Neil Hayes speculates that the Bears could pursue Torry Holt once the veteran is released.
Holt will obviously be linked to the Bears now that his old coach is Chicago's offensive coordinator. Holt would be a great mentor for the Bears' young receivers trying to learn Martz's system, but we doubt he would be anything more than the No. 4 receiver.

 William Thomas-T- Jaguars Feb. 6 - 9:36 am et

The Jaguars informed OT Tra Thomas that he will be released next week.
Thomas started three games for the Jaguars in 2009 and saw part time duty in a couple of others. He was inactive for the last seven. Thomas, 35, originally signed on with the Jaguars in hopes of starting, but the team drafted Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton in April to squash that. He plans to keep playing in 2010.
 Torry Holt-WR- Jaguars Feb. 6 - 9:30 am et

The Jaguars informed veteran WR Torry Holt and OT Tra Thomas that they will be released next week.
Holt, 33, was the Jags' third-leading receiver in 2009, but he's devoid of playmaking ability at this stage of his career. Holt played ten seasons in St. Louis before signing with Jacksonville last April. Mike Thomas could ascend to Holt's starting spot in 2010. Teams can not release players until the Monday after the Super Bowl.

 David Garrard-QB- Jaguars Feb. 5 - 11:02 am et

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio openly questioned whether David Garrard can be a "Super Bowl-caliber" quarterback.
"A quarterback like David Garrard can be that with a great supporting cast," said Del Rio. "I don't know. When you look at teams that have won multiple championships, I think they've had elite quarterbacks." Del Rio is stating the obvious, but it also points to Garrard's tenuous grasp on the job in Jacksonville. If he doesn't raise his level of play in 2010, the Jags will look for a new franchise quarterback.
 Maurice Jones-Drew-RB- Jaguars Jan. 30 - 9:30 pm et

Jaguars GM Gene Smith indicated that the offense will emphasize the running game in 2010.
Smith believes the Jags have "one of the best blocking tight ends [Marcedes Lewis], one of the better fullbacks [Greg Jones], and one of the best running backs [Jones-Drew]" in the league. Jones-Drew is easily the team's best player, and he should remain a Top-3 fantasy pick this summer as the offensive centerpiece.
 Torry Holt-WR- Jaguars Jan. 30 - 9:26 pm et

Jags GM Gene Smith wouldn't commit to bringing back "decision players" such as Torry Holt and Reggie Nelson this offseason.
Also on the list are DE/OLB Quentin Groves, OT Tra Thomas, and C Brad Meester. Holt has declined to the point where he struggles to separate from defenders, and he offers no playmaking ability whatsoever. Mike Thomas could ascend to his starting spot in 2010. Nelson has regressed into one of the worst tacklers in the league and is no longer deserving of a roster spot.
 Derrick Harvey-DL- Jaguars Jan. 30 - 9:17 pm et

Jags GM Gene Smith said Saturday that the team's experiment with a 3-4 scheme on defense is over.
The Jags will use an "attack 4-3 defense" after last year's 3-4 trial run failed due to ill-fitting personnel and no pass rush. Under-performing 2008 first-rounder Derrick Harvey will play left end in what Smith called his "defining" third year.
 David Garrard-QB- Jaguars Jan. 24 - 8:26 pm et

David Garrard has been selected to the Pro Bowl as Peyton Manning's replacement, according to Garrard's agent Phil Senich.
Needless to say, he's brutally undeserving. Garrard, who finished the year with a 15:10 TD-to-INT ratio, threw multiple touchdown passes in just five games all season and was horrible on the road. Garrard still apparently got more fan votes than Kyle Orton, who completed a higher percentage of passes, threw for more yards, and had 21 TDs compared to 12 INTs.

 Jeremy Mincey-DL- Jaguars Jan. 20 - 10:24 am et

Jagaurs signed DE Jeremy Mincey and OL Andrew Crummey to reserve/future contracts.
Crummey is a journeyman that has spent time with the Redskins, Bengals and Texans. Mincey's injuries and "tweener" abilities have held him back. Both players will compete for roster spots at training camp.

 Walter Curry-DL- Jaguars Jan. 14 - 11:34 am et

Jaguars signed DE Walter Curry.
Curry hung out on the Jags' practice squad for parts of three seasons before spending 2009 in the CFL.
 David Garrard-QB- Jaguars Jan. 13 - 12:24 pm et

Just a week after coach Jack Del Rio was lukewarm in his support of David Garrard, owner Wayne Weaver followed suit.
"I think David Garrard can win for us. We have to do some things differently there, in terms of preparation," Weaver said. The bottom line is that the Jags aren't thrilled with Garrard, but they know they can't do much better without changing their offense to suit Tim Tebow or rebuilding with a true pro-style rookie passer. Garrard is the likely Week 1 starter in 2010.

 Jaguars Defense-TM- Jaguars Jan. 12 - 1:12 pm et

SI's Peter King reports that Jack Del Rio is "officially" staying on as Jaguars head coach. The Jaguars have confirmed the report.
While the sides appeared headed toward a divorce, the $15M guaranteed to Del Rio was enough to keep him on board for another year. Mike Mularkey, who was rumored to be a potential replacement in Jacksonville, will stay with the Falcons. USC will have to explore other options as Pete Carroll's replacement, such as Iowa's Kirk Ferentz or UConn's Randy Edsall.

 Jaguars Defense-TM- Jaguars Jan. 12 - 11:14 am et

In a text message, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio told beat writer Michael C. Wright late Monday that he would be back in Jacksonville in 2010.
"Just thought some truth would be good mixed with all the speculation," Del Rio said, adding that he's "been in meetings all day preparing our offseason plan going forward, and nothing other than that." The L.A. Daily News and ESPN believe Del Rio is still a strong candidate to coach at USC. Until Jags owner Wayne Weaver confirms Del Rio's return, we can't know for sure.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, there is a "feeling in the building" in Jacksonville that Jack Del Rio will have a difficult time emerging from Tuesday's meeting with owner Wayne Weaver as the team's head coach.
Schefter also points out that "in an ideal world" Del Rio will be at USC in 2010. In that scenario, Weaver would be off the hook for the $15 million he's committed to Del Rio, and from all indications JDR would rather be coaching his alma mater than the Jaguars anyway. USC beat writer Scott Wolf says Del Rio should receive the contract the Trojans drew up for him on Tuesday.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio denied Tuesday a report that he has been offered a contract by the University of Southern California.
Del Rio called the report "figments of other people's imagination." "All of those things are manufactured," he added. "The only thing I can tell you is I've been busy working on the Jaguars for 2010. We're busy at work, trying to build this thing strong." Del Rio is slated to meet Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver later Tuesday, at which time his future will be decided.

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, the University of Southern Cal has sent Jacksonville Jack Del Rio a contract that, if signed, would make him the next head coach of the Trojans.
Jaguars beat writer Michael C. Wright, who is usually reliable, still insists that Del Rio will stay in Jacksonville. It does appear, however, that USC is making a strong push to get him. Also worth noting: Del Rio was at Jags headquarters deep into last night, allegedly mapping out the team's offseason. If he left the club, he'd forfeit $15M due him over the next three years.

SI's Peter King reports that Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio is making calls to potential staff members in anticipation of leaving Jacksonville for USC.
Meanwhile, the Florida Times Union reports Del Rio is safe if he wants to stay with the Jags. He's meeting with owner Wayne Weaver on Tuesday. In light of this latest development, however, it's possible Del Rio might intentionally tank the "interview" with Weaver to coach his alma mater. Oregon State's Mike Riley, Washington's Steve Sarkisian, and Titans coach Jeff Fisher have already turned down the Trojans, who are running out of high-profile options.

Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio is scheduled to meet owner Wayne Weaver on Tuesday to determine Del Rio's fate with the team.
Should Del Rio fail to impress, he'll immediately become a favorite for the vacancy at Southern Cal. Del Rio is 58-57 in seven years as Jags coach. He was an All-American USC linebacker and MVP of the 1985 Rose Bowl.
