Free agent CB Ty Law says he is open to returning to the Broncos.

"I’m going to train as if I’m playing," he said. "They said I’m welcome to come back." The 36-year-old signed off the street in early November and closed out the season at nickel back, making 10 tackles and a pick in seven games. At worst, the club could bring Law to camp as competition for Alphonso Smith.

Broncos declared CB Ty Law, WR Eddie Royal, FB Spencer Larsen, RB LaMont Jordan, NT Chris Baker, S Vernon Fox, G Seth Olsen and QB Tom Brandstater inactive for Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Law's absence hurts the Broncos' nickel and dime defenses. Rookies Tony Carter and Alphonso Smith will fill in. Royal is hurt but was just waiver wire fodder anyway.

Broncos nickel back Ty Law left Thursday's game with a hamstring injury and did not return.

Rookie Alphonso Smith picked up extra snaps as the nickel back and played well as Law's replacement. The Broncos secondary continues to play at an extremely high level, holding Eli Manning to 28 yards at halftime Thursday.

Ty Law immediately upgraded the Broncos' nickel defense on Monday night.

Opponents were attacking Jack Williams and rookie Alphonso Smith, so coach Josh McDaniels pulled Law out of retirement and threw him into the fire. Law responded with a solid game despite having to wear a wristband with the plays on it. Consider Law an upgrade for an already tough Broncos secondary.

Ty Law's one-year deal with the Broncos is for $800,000 and includes a $200,000 signing bonus.

Law can also earn up to $400,000 in playing time and performance incentives. He is also expected to dress and play on Monday night against the Steelers.

Broncos agreed to terms with DB Ty Law, formerly of the Jets.

Josh McDaniels calls on his New England ties yet again. Law, 35, doesn't have a whole lot left, but upgrades Denver's ultra thin secondary, probably as an eventual nickel back behind Champ Bailey and Andre' Goodman. Between Bailey, FS Brian Dawkins, and Law, the Broncos' league-oldest back end now has 20 Pro Bowls. It's unclear if Law will be active on Monday night.
