Robert Allenby crafted a bogey-free, 5-under-par 34-33=67 at the South Course at Torrey Pines in his opening round of the Farmers Insurance Open.
It doesn't matter where he plays right now - the Aussie can do no wrong. Allenby hit 15 GIR and needed just 29 putts today. Two of his five birdies were carded on par-3s. At the time he signed his card, no one else that played the South Course had gone as low. Look out tomorrow as he gets his one bite at Torrey North.

Robert Allenby carded a final round of 3-under-par 67 and finished in second place at the Sony Open.
Allenby briefly grabbed a stroke lead after opening with a birdie. The lead didn't last long and by the turn he was stroke behind. He was able to briefly regain a share of the lead at the 13th hole and after the 15th hole Allenby remained tied with Ryan Palmer into the final hole. Both players drove their tee shots through the fairway at the 18th, and after Palmer came up short of the green, Allenby rolled his approach on to and through the green. The chip by Allenby came within 9-feet of the hole, but Palmer's chip hit the pin flush and stayed five inches from the hole. The birdie attempt by Allenby tailed off from the hole, and then Palmer tapped in for the championship. Still, it was a gutsy performance by Allenby, who had injured his ankle earlier in the week and played well even though the ankle was heavily wrapped.

Robert Allenby posted a third round of 3-under-par 67 and shares the third round lead with Ryan Palmer at the Sony Open.
Allenby opened the front nine in 1-under-par, which left him a stroke behind Ryan Palmer. He claimed a share of the lead to open the back nine after a kick-in birdie and took the lead at the 12th hole after another short birdie-putt. Allenby was never able to post another birdie after the 12th hole and Palmer tied him at the final hole of the day after a two-putt birdie at the par-5 hole. On Sunday, Allenby will be looking for his fifth career championship on the PGA Tour and his first since the 2001 Marconi Pennsylvania Classic.

Robert Allenby chased his opening 65 with a 3-under-par 35-32=67 in the second round of the Sony Open.
Allenby was 2-over after four holes, but didn't slip again, carding five birdies and nine pars the rest of the way. Today's ball-striking was below average, especially for him - five (of 14) fairways, 11 GIR - but hit clutch putting has kept him in the hunt. This goes all the way back to his playoff victory over Henrik Stenson at last month's Nedbank Golf Challenge. Allenby finished with a one-stroke clubhouse lead today.

Robert Allenby spun a 5-under-par 31-34=65 in his opening round of the Sony Open, joining the fray atop the leaderboard.
Allenby hit 16 GIR, took just 28 putts and had seven birdies at Waialae today. He sprained his right ankle on a curb on Monday, but he obviously overcame any discomfort. Afterwards, he admitted that it was heavily taped. Allenby might be the world's best golfer at the moment with two big victories in December, and should not be overlooked anymore until he makes a turn for the worse. And that his putter is holding up for this extended period of time is mighty impressive.

Robert Allenby shot a 14-under-par 270 to claim a four-stroke victory at the Australian PGA Championship.
Tidy couple of weeks for the veteran, who won the Nedbank Golf Challenge last Sunday in a playoff. It's his fourth career Aussie PGA crown and 18th international victory to go with four PGA Tour wins. Allenby's last multiple-win "offseason" occurred when he won his homeland's Triple Crown in 2005. John Senden and Scott Strange shared second place at Coolum.
