Alex Ovechkin has earned the NHL's first star of the week.
Ovechkin scored six goals and 10 points in four games last week. He has registered at least one point in 16 of his last 17 games and leads all players with a stunning 86 points in 51 games. The next best player, Henrik Sedin, has eight less points despite playing in six more games. There is simply no better player in the NHL right now than Ovechkin.

Alexander Ovechkin scored three goals and assisted on the winning goal in a 5-4 overtime victory over the Penguins.
Mike Knuble put in the rebound off an Ovechkin shot that clanged off the post. Eric Fehr had the other Washington goal while Nicklas Backstrom chipped in with two assists and 10 PIMs.

Alexander Ovechkin had a goal and an assist in the Capitals 5-2 victory over the Thrashers Friday.
Ovechkin was just one of three Capital players with a goal and an assist. Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Semin both had a goal and assist as well.

Tonight's Atlanta-Washington game is still a go despite a large snowstorm that has hit the Washington D.C. area.
Do not expect a big crowd in Washington as the storm is supposed to end on Saturday afternoon. Sunday's afternoon tilt against the Penguins is also still on.

Nicklas Backstrom scored one goal and added four assists in Washington's 6-5 win over New York Thursday night.
Backstrom led all Washington scorers in another offensive explosion Thursday night. The Russian pivot has been on fire over the Capitals' 12-game winning streak, registering 6 goals and 13 assists over that span. Alex Ovechkin netted two and added an assist. Mike Knuble potted one and added an apple. Tomas Fleischmann finished with two helpers.

Alex Ovechkin scored his 36th goal of the season Tuesday night as Washington beat Boston 4-1.
The Caps were led by a strong offense yet again, getting goals from Mike Knuble, Brooks Laich, and Boyd Gordon. Tom Poti recorded two assists. The Capitals are now on an 11-game win streak.
