49ers ILB Patrick Willis says he is "pray(ing) to God" that the 49ers re-sign impending free agent NT Aubrayo Franklin.
Franklin was snubbed by Pro Bowl voters but the 29-year-old had a terrific season, helping San Francisco to lead the NFC in yards-per-carry average allowed. "I'd say he's the best nose in the game," said Willis. "Nobody plays with better technique. Nobody knows the game better than he knows it."

According to beat writer John Crumpacker, the 49ers are "prepared" to use the franchise tag on pending free agent NT Aubrayo Franklin this offseason.
Franklin has emerged as the of the best 3-4 nose tackles in the game, keying a defense that allows just 3.3 yards per carry to opposing runners. He's part of a Pro Bowl caliber defensive nucleus that includes ILB Patrick Willis and DE Justin Smith.

49ers coordinator Greg Manusky calls NT Aubrayo Franklin the No. 1 reason his defense has been so successful this season.
Defensive end Justin Smith went even further, calling Franklin the best nose tackle in football. Kris Jenkins and Shaun Rogers would certainly take issue with that assessment, but it's clear that Franklin is keying an improved run defense.

49ers defensive coordinator Greg Manusky indicated that Aubrayo Franklin will remain the starting nose tackle.
It was thought that Isaac Sopoaga might get a chance to puch Franklin for the job. Kentwan Balmer, last year's first-round pick, will see also see some time at nose tackle this year.

The 49ers will move LE Isaac Sopoaga back to nose tackle following the addition of Demetric Evans.
Despite showing virtually nothing as a rookie, the Niners hope Kentwan Balmer will push Evans hard to start at left end. Sopoaga (6'2/325) will battle Aubrayo Franklin on the nose. Most likely, they'll end up in a rotation.
