Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio reports the Bills will hire University of Florida defensive coordinator George Edwards for the same position in Buffalo. The Bills have confirmed the report.
Edwards left the Dolphins for the Gators job just three weeks ago. Since 1998, he has served as a successful linebackers coach with the Cowboys, Redskins, Browns, and Dolphins. It was in Dallas that he worked with head coach Chan Gailey. In his first experience as a coordinator, Edwards indicated that he will start out with a "3-4" scheme with an ability to flex to a "4-3" at times. It's still a big change for a defense that has run "4-3" for nine years.

Ex-Patriots defensive coordinator Dean Pees may be in the mix for the same position with the Bills.
Pees, 60, looked to be a shoe-in for the gig in Denver before LBs coach Don Martindale emerged as the favorite. Bills new head coach Chan Gailey also mentioned at his presser that he was open to a change to the 3-4 defense, and Pees would fit that bill.

Former Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer was reportedly interested in the Bills' head coaching job despite comments that he made to the contrary.
His name surfaced when good friend Buddy Nix was hired as GM, but owner Ralph Wilson reportedly wasn't interested in the elder Schottenheimer. Nix was adamant Tuesday that big names have been calling about the job all along, but Wilson apparently put his desire for an offensive mind over big name appeal.

The Bills are not expected to name a new head coach for at least another week.
The Buffalo News still considers Vikings DC Leslie Frazier the Bills' "leading candidate," but assistants still involved in the postseason can't have contact with non-playoff teams until after the NFC title game. Frazier interviewed for the Buffalo job two weeks ago. No other serious candidate has emerged.

Perry Fewell will wait to see what happens with the Bills' head coaching search before committing to be the Bears or Giants' defensive coordinator.
Fewell is still holding out hope of getting Buffalo's top job, despite his long odds. He'll likely have to wait for Minnesota to be knocked out of the playoffs. Vikings DC Leslie Frazier is widely considered the Bills' favorite.

According to SI.com's Jim Trotter, Vikings defense coordinator Leslie Frazier is the clubhouse leader for the Bills head coaching job.
Frazier reportedly "blew away" new Bills GM Buddy Nix in his interview. He employs the same Tampa 2-style defense that Perry Fewell ran, so he wouldn't have to completely rebuild on that side of the ball. Trotter also reports that Frazier will still interview in Seattle because Pete Carroll has not been promised full control of the Seahawks.
