Jose Guillen | Outfielder

TEAM: Kansas City Royals
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'0' / 195
DOB: 5/17/1976
AGE:33
BATS/THROWS:Right / Right
CONTRACT INFO: 2009: $12 million, 2010: $12 million, 2011: Free Agent
 Rick Ankiel-OF- RoyalsJan. 25 - 5:40 pm et
Rick Ankiel will be Kansas City's starting center fielder, while Jose Guillen is being shifted to designated hitter, according to GM Dayton Moore.
Scott Podsednik will take over in left field and last year's left fielder, David Dejesus, will move to right. The Royals apparently promised Ankiel the center field gig when they inked him to a one-year, $3.25 million contract Thursday. They might soon regret it. He boasts one of the best outfield arms in baseball, but he doesn't have great instincts in center and his range is poor.

 Jose Guillen-OF - Royals Nov. 24 - 8:32 pm et

According to Diario Libre, a newspaper in the Dominican Republic, Jose Guillen would approve of a trade to the Mets and does not feel he will be a Royal in 2010.
It seems as if both Guillen and the newspaper are taking a previous rumor a bit too seriously. It was reported the Royals felt they could deal Guillen to the Mets, but the odds of that happening are unlikely. Guillen said "If trading me would help the Royals, New York would be one of the clubs I would approve. ... My mind is focused on having a great season next year and until now I believed that would be with the Royals."

The Royals have identified the Mets as a possible trading partner for Jose Guillen, reports Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News.
The Mets would reportedly only consider Guillen if they miss out on Jason Bay and Matt Holliday. With $12 million remaining in the last year of the contract, the Royals would have to eat a significant chunk of salary to even get the Mets to return phone calls. If there's a fit, the Royals would like a young outfielder in return and are eyeing Angel Pagan. We don't see a fit here; the Mets can just sign a second-tier outfielder for short money and retain Pagan either way.

Royals placed outfielder Jose Guillen on the 60-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.
Guillen hasn't played since September 2 due to the hamstring injury and will now have the entire offseason to recover. He'll finish 2009 with a .242/.314/.367 batting line, nine homers and 40 RBI in 81 games. The move clears room on the 40-man roster for Aaron Crow, who inked a three-year, $4.5 million major league deal on Thursday evening.

According to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com, Jose Guillen (hamstring) will miss the rest of the season.
"I won't play anymore for the rest of the season to recover well from the injury," said Guillen. "The knee is fine, but no one wants to take unnecessary risks." It's a decision that is long overdue. Guillen has been a major bust this season, batting just .242/.314/.367 with nine homers and 40 RBI in 81 games. The Royals still owe him $12 million for 2010.

Jose Guillen lasted just two at-bats Wednesday against the A's because of soreness in his right hamstring.
Well, if the knee injury couldn't finish him, maybe this can. Guillen is a major liability each time he steps onto the field. The Royals would be better off if he has to shut it down.
