According to Venezuelan reporter Efrain Zavarce, at least eight teams watched free agent Kelvim Escobar throw Wednesday in his home country.
Zavarce identified scouts from the Cubs, Brewers, Giants, Pirates, Tigers, Mariners, Athletics and Rays at the throwing session. Escobar, 33, has already been offered a minor league contract from Mets but is hoping to draw a major league deal. The 33-year-old posted a 3.40 ERA over 30 starts in 2007 and has a 4.15 ERA in 202 career major league starts, but he has made just one MLB appearance in the last two years.
