Bears hired Mike Martz as offensive coordinator.
Martz was low on GM Jerry Angelo's initial list of candidates, but rose to the forefront after Rob Chudzinski, Jeremy Bates, Hue Jackson, and a host of others bowed out. Martz, 59, was out of coaching last year but is still widely regarded as one of the game's brightest offensive minds. It will be interesting to see how the strong-minded coach meshes with Jay Cutler. Martz's offensive track record says the Bears are making a high-upside, if risky move as head coach Lovie Smith enters a win-or-else season.

Mike Martz flew to Tennessee to meet with Jay Cutler over the weekend, sources tell the Chicago Tribune.
Martz had the Bears' blessing for the trip and he looks like the frontrunner for the vacant offensive coordinator job. Vikings quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers interviewed last Thursday and also appears to still be in the mix. Martz would give Cutler some real upside in fantasy circles next season, while Greg Olsen's outlook would take a major hit.

The Bears interviewed Mike Martz for the their vacant offensive coordinator job on Friday.
Martz was ready to move on earlier in the week, but the Bears are getting desperate. The choice could come down to Martz or Vikings QBs coach Kevin Rogers. Though Martz had harsh criticism for Jay Cutler during the season, he does have a history with coach Lovie Smith. From a fantasy perspective, Martz is the preferred choice.

Frank Cignetti, who was believed to be a candidate for the Bears' offensive coordinator position, has decided to stay on as the offensive coordinator at Pitt.
Cignetti never interviewed, so he hasn't officially joined the ranks of those turning down the Bears. With the perception of Lovie Smith as a lame-duck head coach, the Bears are having a hard time filling either coordinator spot this offseason.

University of PIttsburgh offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti and Saints tight ends coach Terry Malone are the latest names to emerge in the Bears' offensive coordinator search.
The Bears can't interview Malone, a former offensive coordinator at the University of Michigan, until after the Super Bowl. Cignetti is credited with developing Pitt QB Bill Stull after leading an explosive offense at Cal in 2008.

The Bears have reportedly received permission to interview Bears QBs coach Kevin Rogers for their vacant offensive coordinator position.
Rogers, known as a players coach with good communication skills, is credited with developing Donovan McNabb at Syracuse in addition to his work with a raw Tarvaris Jackson in Minnesota. His interview is expected to take place later this week.
