Browns placed TE Steve Heiden (ankle) on injured reserve, ending his season.
He finishes with 10 receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown in seven games. Heiden has been a Brown since 2002, but his career with the team will probably end in the offseason. The 33-year-old is due a $900,000 base salary in 2010 and has finished back-to-back seasons on injured reserve.

Browns TE Steve Heiden left Monday night's game with an ankle injury.
Heiden is a good blocking TE and his return is questionable. Robert Royal is the team's only healthy body at the position.

Jerome Harrison was removed from the injury report Friday and will start. The only skill player in Cleveland we'd use this week is Mohamed Massaquoi.

Browns signed TE Michael Gaines.
Gaines was just cut by the Bears on Saturday. He's mainly a blocking tight end that gives the Browns depth as Steve Heiden deals with a knee injury.

As expected, the Browns' initial training camp depth chart lists Robert Royal as the starting tight end.
He's ahead of Steve Heiden, who's been limited coming off a torn ACL and MCL, and upstart youngster Martin Rucker. Royal's blocking prowess will give him the edge here, but Rucker should lead Cleveland tight ends in catches.

Browns TE Steve Heiden practiced for the first time Monday without a red jersey to limit his contact.
Heiden had major knee surgery in December and has likely lost his starting job to Robert Royal. But at least he's full cleared to compete now.
