 Roy Halladay-S- PhilliesDec. 9 - 7:59 pm et
The Angels have offered SP Joe Saunders, SS Erick Aybar and CF Peter Bourjos to the Blue Jays for ace Roy Halladay, according to the Toronto Sun.
The offer could put the Angels in the driver's seat for Toronto's ace; they have been the most aggressive in negotiations and possess the requisite ammunition to get a deal done. Saunders, 28, was 16-7 with a 4.60 earned run average in 31 starts in 2009. Aybar, who will turn 26 next month, hit .312 with five homers and 58 RBIs in 137 games. Bourjos, 22, is a highly-regarded speedster. Saunders and Aybar are both three years away from free agency. The story notes that the Blue Jays would likely trade recently-signed shortstop Alex Gonzalez if they acquired Aybar.

 Alex Gonzalez-SS - Blue Jays Nov. 26 - 11:35 am et

Blue Jays signed shortstop Alex Gonzalez to a one-year, $2.75 million contract.
The contract includes a $2.5 million club option for 2011. Gonzalez, 32, batted .238/.279/.355 with eight home runs and 41 RBI in 391 at-bats between the Reds and Red Sox in 2009. He comes with a fine reputation on defense, ranking as one of the best shortstops in the league. Like it or not, the Blue Jays have committed to a pair of veteran defensive specialists in Gonzalez and John McDonald over the past 24 hours. Marco Scutaro will have to find employment elsewhere.

Updating a previous item, Jordan Bastain of MLB.com reports that the Blue Jays have signed shortstop Alex Gonzalez to a one-year contract with a club option for 2011.
According to Bastain, Gonzalez will earn $2.75 million in 2010, with a $2.5 million club option for 2011. While they are still searching for a long-term option at the position, they now have two veteran stopgaps in-house. They are still likely to offer Type A free agent Marco Scutaro arbitration in order to net draft pick compensation.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Alex Gonzalez signed a one-year contract with the Blue Jays on Wednesday night.
Terms of the contract were not revealed. The Red Sox viewed Gonzalez as a fallback option if they were unable to find an upgrade at the position, but now a deal for Marco Scutaro begins to make a bit more sense. Gonzalez, 32, batted .238/.279/.355 with eight home runs and 41 RBI in 391 at-bats between the Reds and Red Sox in 2009. He and Aaron Hill should give the Blue Jays one of the better double play combos around.

 Marco Scutaro-SS - Red Sox Nov. 25 - 8:37 am et

According to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald, the Red Sox have shown preliminary interest in free agent shortstop Marco Scutaro.
The Red Sox are maintaining contact with free agent Alex Gonzalez, but Scutaro represents an offensive upgrade. He hit .282/.379/.409 with 12 homers, 60 RBI and 100 runs scored in 2009. According to the Herald, the Red Sox attempted to trade for Scutaro this past July.

FOXSports.com cites major league sources who say that the Nationals are interested in Adam Everett or Alex Gonzalez to play shortstop.
So much for Ian Desmond. According to the report, the Nationals plan to move Cristian Guzman to second base while giving Desmond more time at Triple-A. Everett and Gonzalez can certainly pick it at short, so they'd be a considerable improvement over Guzman. The Red Sox wisely declined Gonzalez's $6 million option for 2010, but haven't ruled out bringing him back.
