 Vicente Padilla-S- DodgersJan. 21 - 3:01 pm et
Dodgers signed RHP Vicente Padilla to a one-year, $5.025 million contract.
He'll get $1 million of that in a signing bonus and can earn another million with incentives based on innings pitched. Padilla, 32, has a 4.33 ERA over 11 big league seasons and hasn't managed an ERA lower than 4.00 since 2003 with the Phillies, but he should be a decent No. 4 starter with this pretty reasonable commitment. The 32-year-old right-hander was 4-0 with a 3.20 ERA in eight games (seven starts) with the Dodgers down the stretch last season. The signing of Padilla leaves the club with a familiar refrain, as they are now expected to consider internal options to complete their starting rotation during Spring Training.

Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that the Dodgers have signed right-hander Vicente Padilla to a one-year, $5.025 million contract.
He gets a $1 million signing bonus as part of the deal. Padilla, 32, was 12-6 with a 4.46 ERA last season, but finished on a very positive note, posting a 3.20 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in eight games (seven starts) after being signed by the Dodgers in August. The Dodgers are now a longshot to retain Jon Garland, as Eric Stults and Scott Elbert should battle it out for the fifth spot during Spring Training.

Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers have recently contacted the agents of free agent right-handers Joel Pineiro, Vicente Padilla, Braden Looper and Jon Garland.
Dodgers owners Frank and Jamie McCourt are engaged in heated divorce proceedings, which has added some uncertainty to the club's budget limitations this offseason. The Dodgers have some obvious holes in their rotation at this time, so they should aim to sign at least one of the four. Padilla and Garland both pitched well down the stretch with the team last season.

Vicente Padilla is seeking a two-year deal in the $15 million range, according to Lyle Spencer of MLB.com.
It would effectively be the same deal that Jason Marquis signed with the Nationals this week, however Padilla is hoping for some additional incentives that could push his annual salary to $9 or $10 million. The 32-year-old right-hander was 12-6 with a 4.46 ERA in '09, but finished strong, posting a 3.20 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in eight games (seven starts) after being signed by the Dodgers in August. The Angels could be one possibility for the veteran.

The Nationals have interest in free agent right-hander Vicente Padilla, reports Dave Sheinin of the Washington Post.
The Nats don't intend to be involved with any big ticket starters, but they are in the market for a veteran starter to compliment their young staff. Padilla, 32, has garnered interest from several teams after posting a 3.20 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in eight games (seven starts) with the Dodgers down the stretch.

Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that while the Dodgers have talked to the agents for free-agent pitchers Randy Wolf, Vicente Padilla and Joel Pineiro, they will not talk about multi-year contracts.
Bad news. According to Gurnick, the Dodgers believe that one-year bargains will be available late in the offseason, similar to the one they handed out to Randy Wolf in February. While the Dodgers were fortunate with Wolf, they could be left at the alter this time.
