Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that two teams that have interest in free agent catcher Rod Barajas -- the Mets and Rangers -- are experiencing complications in their pursuit of the veteran.
Morosi writes that the Mets are out of money and the Rangers may be unable to increase payroll while in ownership transition. The 34-year-old Barajas smacked 19 homers last season. He should be cheap enough if either team can open up a nominal amount of money.

 Rod Barajas-C - Blue Jays Feb. 4 - 11:12 am et

Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog.com hears that the Mets are still interested in free agent catcher Rod Barajas.
The Mets were fortunate that Bengie Molina went back to San Francisco, but now they're left with an undesirable tandem of Omir Santos and Henry Blanco. Cerrone writes that the Mets have talked with the agent for Barajas at various times this offseason, though they hadn’t been very substantive talks up until now. The 34-year-old backstop smacked 19 homers last season and should come for nickels on the dollar as Spring Training approaches.

T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports that the Rangers have shown interest in free agent catcher Rod Barajas.
With the uncertainty surrounding Jarrod Saltalamacchia's shoulder condition, improving the catcher position has become a priority. While there figures to be competition for Barajas, the team is also considering Jason Kendall, Yorvit Torrealba, Jose Molina and Henry Blanco.

The Mets are interested in Rod Barajas, reports Brian Costa of the New Jersey Star-Ledger.
Barajas would represent a low-cost alternative to Bengie Molina, although it would come as a surprise if the Mets' priority wasn't Molina. The former Toronto backstop hit .226/.258/.403 with 19 home runs in 429 at-bats in 2009.

 Marco Scutaro-SS - Red Sox Dec. 1 - 1:13 pm et

The Blue Jays offered arbitration to infielder Marco Scuatro and catcher Rod Barajas.
No surprise here. Scutaro is a Type A free agent and should sign a multi-year contract this winter. The Red Sox, Dodgers and Mariners, among others, are rumored to have interest in the 34-year-old infielder. Barajas, a Type B free agent, is expected to find a multi-year offer elsewhere, according to new general manager Alex Anthopoulos. If they decline arbitration and sign with another club, the Blue Jays should receive a nice lot of prospects for the two.

 Rod Barajas-C - Blue Jays Nov. 26 - 6:27 pm et

Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos indicated Thursday that free agent catcher Rod Barajas is unlikely to return to Toronto for the 2010 season.
"My understanding is that there's significant interest in him and it seems as though he's got a very good opportunity to get a multi-year deal," Anthopoulos said. "So, it's probably unlikely that we'll be able to see him back here." The Jays are thought to be interested in Arizona's Chris Snyder, or they could promote Kyle Phillips, who had a nice season at Triple-A.
