In addition to three quarterback hits, Matt Roth recorded 1 1/2 sacks Sunday, giving him four in five games with the Browns.

Rob Ryan's unit is up to 37 sacks on the season, 20 more than last year's total. Roth has been a godsend for an injury-ravaged Browns' linebacking corps. A restricted free agent after the season, he's rebuilding value lost early in the season.

Browns OLB Matt Roth, claimed off waivers last week, started against the Bengals Sunday.

Roth made an immediate impact with a sack on the Bengals' first offensive series in addition to a tackle for a loss and a QB hurry. He finished with three tackles and four assists and should remain the starter going forward.

New Browns LB Matt Roth admits he had a "falling out" with the Dolphins that led to his eventual release earlier this week.

"I knew being released was an option and I'm glad it happened," Roth said. "I was hurt and they were disappointed I wasn't going to be able to go right away in the season." Roth should help the Browns right away as they plan to play him this Sunday.

Browns claimed OLB Matt Roth off waivers from the Dolphins.

Roth is a rare worthwhile pickup by Cleveland. The 27-year-old former second-round pick has starting-caliber tools and extensive experience as a first-stringer. Roth could help the Browns on early downs during the stretch run, and be pretty easily retained as a restricted free agent for 2010.

Dolphins waived OLB Matt Roth.

Roth earned the ire of the coaching staff and front office for sitting out training camp with a groin injury despite being medically cleared. Set to hit free agency after the season, he wasn't going to return to the Dolphins regardless. Miami is deep at outside linebacker, so Roth was the odd man out the rest of the way. Expect him to draw plenty of interest from teams that run 3-4 defenses.

Joey Porter-LB - Dolphins

Joey Porter will not play against the Bucs Sunday because coach Tony Sparano is benching him.

Although Porter has been struggling with a knee injury, that is not why he won't play Sunday. It's unclear what happened, but the Dolphins are saying the outside linebacker won't play because of a "coach's decision." Matt Roth or Charlie Anderson are likely to replace Porter in the starting lineup, with Cameron Wake's role also increasing.
