 Chiefs Offense-TM- ChiefsJan. 6 - 6:27 pm et
Ex-Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has agreed to be the Chiefs' new offensive coordinator, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
He'll reportedly be named Kansas City's new playcaller "within the next 24-48 hours." The fit is logical because Weis' offense is virtually the exact same as coach Todd Haley's, right down to the no-huddle heavy aspects. The approach won't change, but Weis' history of QB development and skillful use of adept pass-catching tailbacks bodes well for Matt Cassel and Jamaal Charles. At both the college and pro levels, Weis has also gotten outstanding production from far less talented receivers than Dwayne Bowe.

 Matt Cassel-QB - Chiefs Jan. 5 - 1:27 am et

Matt Cassel was sacked just eight times in the Chiefs' last six games, compared to 37 times in the first 10.
Jamaal Charles also averaged 6.0 YPC in the final eight contests. K.C. will add talent to its offensive line for 2010, but found a potential building block in RT Ryan O'Callaghan to go with LT Branden Albert and LG Brian Waters. The nucleus will gain some valuable continuity with a full offseason together.

 Matt Cassel-QB - Chiefs Jan. 3 - 8:11 pm et

Matt Cassel completed 13-of-24 passes for 207 yards and one interception in Week 17 against the Broncos.
Cassel made some big plays, but for the most part his best work came handing the ball off to Jamaal Charles. Acquired for a second-round pick and signed to a $63 million deal, Cassel ranked among the league's bottom five in completion percentage and yards per throw while taking 42 sacks and averaging under 200 yards per game.
 Matt Cassel-QB - Chiefs Dec. 27 - 4:24 pm et

Matt Cassel completed 22-of-37 passes for 180 yards, one touchdown and an interception in Week 16 against the Bengals.
Cassel and the Chiefs struggled in the early going, but actually entered the locker room at halftime in the midst of a 3-3 tie. Cassel rallied the troops for a fourth quarter touchdown drive, capped off by a 20-yard connection with Tim Castille, but he also threw a loss-clinching pick a few minutes later. Another tough game against the Broncos in Week 17 could mean trouble.
 Matt Cassel-QB - Chiefs Dec. 20 - 4:51 pm et

Matt Cassel completed 22-of-40 passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns in the Chiefs' Week 15 loss to Cleveland.
While we must keep in mind that this came against Cleveland's No. 25 pass defense, it's what the Chiefs hoped they were getting when they dealt a second-round pick for Cassel and signed him to a $63 million deal. The game was easily Cassel's best in a Kansas City uniform, and his first over 262 passing yards. He finishes with tough games at Cincinnati and Denver.
 Matt Cassel-QB - Chiefs Dec. 14 - 11:49 am et

Matt Cassel has six interceptions to zero touchdowns over the past two weeks.
His TD-to-INT ratio is now even at 13-to-13, his completion percentage has dropped two points to 54.3, and his quarterback rating has slid more than 10 points to a woeful 68.3. Cassel isn't getting much help from his teammates, but it's fair to question whether he's the franchise answer in Kansas City.
