Adam Scott carded a 2-over-par 35-38=73 in his opening round of the Northern Trust Open.
Scott entered 2010 on the heels of five straight top 15s, including a victory at the Australian Open, but he failed to showcase that form today at Riviera. Scott landed only nine GIR in his season debut on the PGA Tour. He double-bogeyed the par-4 10th hole and had just two birdies all day.

With a 15-under-par 273, Adam Scott claimed a five-stroke victory in the Australian Open.
And over fellow former scuffler, Stuart Appleby, who, in his own right, was four strokes clear of a trio at T-3. Believe it or not, Scott's impressive effort extends his worldwide winning streak to nine consecutive years. Although it seems like it was ages ago, his last triumph occurred at last year's Qatar Masters. This is also his first professional win in his homeland. Surely disappointed are the fantasy owners that had already pegged Scott as a sleeper in 2010. Not so much now.

It was announced today that the European Tour will table the idea of offering incentives to members to compete in select events.
Fourteen months ago, the Euro Tour increased its membership requirement from 11 to 12 starts. That will remain the minimum for the 2010 season, which begins in South Africa in three weeks. The Tour also opened up the conduit of Affiliate Membership for 2009, making it easy for non-Euro members to contend in the Race to Dubai, the final of which begins on Thursday. Adam Scott, for one, admitted that he might forego Euro Tour membership next year if the membership incentives were approved. He is likely reconsidering his decision.

Adam Scott and Ernie Els downed Hunter Mahan and Sean O'Hair 2&1 in Match 2 of today's foursomes at the President's Cup.
This one was a grind, as the Internationals didn't have a birdie until the 16th hole but were never down in the match. Scott's birdie putt at the 17th sealed the victory, giving the Internationals their first point of the day. It will go a long way at quieting all critics of captain Greg Norman for selecting a scuffling Scott. (Fellow captain's pick, Ryo Ishikawa, has already lost today.)

Adam Scott signed for a 4-under-par 35-33=68 after his opening round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship.
And that included a bogey and double bogey! Scott hit 14 GIR and needed just 28 putts en route to seven birdies, overcoming the weaknesses that have led to a forgettable season. The next hurdle will be consistency. Scott opened with a 66 at the Wyndham, then promptly followed it with a 75 to miss the cut, and he hasn't posted a top-35 in a stroke-play PGA Tour event in over eight months. The President's Cupper will go out in Friday's afternoon wave at Atunyote.

Adam Scott wrote his blog at pgatour.com that he will play in the Turning Stone Resort Championship on October 1-4.
It was only a week ago that we relayed that Scott was going to head to Australia soon for minor surgery to address a cyst in his right knee, and he wasn't going to play again until November. (Scott's blog mentions nothing about the surgery.) That all changed when he got the call to join the International squad at the President's Cup the week after the Turning Stone. This will be his first start in a Fall Series event since the FedExCup was introduced two years ago.
