Saints placed CB Leigh Torrence on injured reserve with a separated shoulder, ending his season.
Torrence, the Saints' No. 5 cornerback for most of the season, finishes up with 10 tackles and a half sack. The 27-year-old old is a favorite of defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, but the Saints' increased CB depth will put Torrence on the roster bubble if he's retained in restricted free agency.

Saints CB Leigh Torrence left Sunday's game with a separated shoulder.
Torrence briefly returned, then went to the sidelines again and probably won't come back in. The Saints can't buy a break in the secondary, having already lost Randall Gay to injury. Pierson Prioleau may have to play some corner.

Scout.com's Adam Caplan estimates that Saints CB Tracy Porter's MCL strain will cost him 4-8 weeks.
Caplan says the injury "sounds like" a Grade 3 sprain, or full tear. Porter doesn't need surgery, but he may not return until the final few weeks of the season. Randall Gay and Malcolm Jenkins will start on the corners until Jabari Greer (groin) returns. Leigh Torrence will be the nickel back.

Saints signed restricted free agent CB Leigh Torrence to a one-year, $1.01 million contract.
We were a little surprised when Torrence got tendered after being claimed off waivers from Washington at the end of 2008, but he's got new DC Gregg Williams on his side. Torrence still faces an uphill battle to make the club.

The Saints placed the highest restricted free agent tender ($2.792 million) on G Jahri Evans and the lowest-possible tender on CB Leigh Torrence.
Another team would have to give up first- and third-round picks to acquire Evans, which will guarantee he returns to New Orleans. Evans has evolved into one of the best young guards in the NFL and the Saints should lock him up. A team could sign Torrence away without giving up compensation.
