| Joe Mauer's 2010 Profile | | Joe Mauer went from great player to perfect player by finally adding significant power to his repertoire, and he amazingly did so despite missing all of April with a back injury. He batted .431 with 12 homers and 35 RBIs in his first 29 games after previously setting a career-high in 2006 with 13 homers…in 140 games. Mauer’s power slowed down late in the year, but he more than doubled his 2006 homer total while leading the league in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage on the way to a near-unanimous MVP. Mauer is one of the best pure hitters in baseball history and has always had an amazing eye at the plate, but whether his 2009 power will remain is unclear. Not only had he never shown that kind of pop before, the vast majority of his long balls went to the opposite field, with many narrowly sneaking over the wall at the Metrodome, and now the Twins are moving to a new ballpark. Mauer can be the top fantasy catcher whether he hits 15 homers or 30 homers, but owners paying for a repeat of 2009 are taking a big risk. | | Year | Tm | AB | H | AVG | HR | RBI | RUNS | SB | OBP | SLUG | TB | OPS | | Proj | MIN | 526 | 174 | .331 | 24 | 97 | 100 | 4 | .420 | .538 | 283 | .958 | | 2009 | MIN | 523 | 191 | .365 | 28 | 96 | 94 | 4 | .444 | .587 | 307 | 1.031 | | 2008 | MIN | 536 | 176 | .328 | 9 | 85 | 98 | 1 | .413 | .451 | 242 | .864 | | 2007 | MIN | 406 | 119 | .293 | 7 | 60 | 62 | 7 | .382 | .426 | 173 | .808 |
