Rams waived S Anthony Smith.
With strong safety James Butler finally healthy, the Rams need more help at corner than safety. Smith has starting experience, so he'll likely find a job elsewhere.

 James Butler-DB - Rams Sep. 28 - 4:16 pm et

Rams SS James Butler is out 2-4 weeks with a third-degree MCL sprain.
Butler piled up 12 stops and picked off a pass in the Rams' first two games, but was a liability in coverage. Anthony Smith is an option to replace him.

Rams claimed S Anthony Smith off waivers from the Packers.
It's a very nice pickup for St. Louis, which needed depth badly behind O.J. Atogwe and James Butler. Smith arguably outplayed starter Atari Bigby in camp, but Green Bay seemingly couldn't admit it and went with special teamer Derrick Martin as a backup instead. Smith has starting-caliber talent.

 Atari Bigby-DB - Packers Aug. 17 - 11:49 pm et

Packers SS Atari Bigby is reportedly having a "quiet" training camp.
Bigby is a hitter and can't show it much in limited contact practice, but could face a run for his job from Anthony Smith by the end of preseason. Smith is more experienced in the new scheme. Bigby's a risky, if high-upside IDP bet.

Packers agreed to terms with S Anthony Smith on a two-year, $1.485 million contract.
Smith will back up starters Nick Collins and Atari Bigby, both of whom are slated to hit unrestricted free agency after next season. Smith has starter level talent and experience, but he's also been a bit of a headcase. He will be reunited with new Packers safeties coach Darren Perry.
