Panthers SLB Na'il Diggs (ribs) returned to practice for the first time this week on Friday and hopes to play on Sunday.
Diggs is listed as questionable but getting him back would give the Panthers' 26th ranked rush defense a much-needed boost. Carolina is very thin at linebacker with both Thomas Davis and Landon Johnson landing on injured reserve recently. If Diggs can't go, the Panthers may be forced to start Dan Connor and James Anderson on the outside.

Panthers LB James Anderson is getting ready to start on the weak side against the Jets this week.
The Panthers have lost both Thomas Davis and Landon Johnson for the season, thrusting Anderson into a starting role. The special teamer is expected to pair with Jon Beason and Dan Connor if Na'il Diggs (ribs) can't go. Thomas Jones is a borderline RB1 this week.

Panthers placed LB Landon Johnson (knee sprain) on season-ending injured reserve.
Johnson is the second Panthers' starting WLB lost to injured reserve in three weeks. Dan Connor, last year's third-round pick, is the favorite to take over for Johnson, though he's spent much of his time with the Panthers practicing inside. James Anderson is also a candidate.

James Anderson started in place of Na'il Diggs (ribs) Monday night.
Anderson got the nod over Landon Johnson and finished with three tackles. It wasn't a surprise that the Cowboys ran all over the Panthers' ravaged defensive front. Diggs' status for Week 5 is unknown.

Panthers signed restricted free agent OLB James Anderson to a one-year, $1.01 million contract.
The No. 88 overall selection in the 2006 draft, Anderson hasn't emerged as more than a deep reserve and special teamer. He's no lock to make the club.

The Panthers extended a low restricted free agent tender ($1.01 million) to OLB James Anderson.
Anderson has done nothing to disprove that he was a major reach in the '06 third round. The Virginia Tech alum will be on the roster bubble this summer.
