 J.J. Putz-R- White SoxFeb. 1 - 11:00 am et
J.J. Putz told CSNChicago.com that he never underwent a physical with the Mets.
"I had the bone spur (in the right elbow). It was discovered the previous year in Seattle, and it never got checked out by any other doctors until I got to spring training, and the spring training physical is kind of a formality," said Putz. "It was bugging me all through April, and in May I got an injection. It just got to the point where I couldn’t pitch. I couldn’t throw strikes, my velocity was way down." Putz says the Mets told him to not talk about being hurt with the media. He eventually underwent surgery to remove the bone spur last June and never threw another pitch with the Mets. With a clean bill of health, the 32-year-old right-hander signed a one-year, $3 million with the White Sox in December.

 J.J. Putz-R - White Sox Dec. 11 - 7:02 pm et

White Sox signed RHP J.J. Putz to a one-year, $3 million contract.
Putz can take home an additional $250,000 based on appearances and another $3 million contingent upon games finished. The 32-year-old right-hander suffered through an injury-plagued season in '09, posting a 5.22 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in just 29 1/3 innings, but like the Mets last winter, the White Sox are banking on a return to his 2007 form. He'll join a talented-Chicago bullpen, but the games finished clause may come into play if the White Sox trade Bobby Jenks, who has recently clashed with management and is arbitration-eligible this winter.

White Sox GM Kenny Williams confirmed Friday that Bobby Jenks will remain the club's closer, despite the recent acquisition of J.J. Putz.
Putz had an ugly 5.22 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in '09, so the idea should have never come up in the first place. Jenks, 28, posted a 3.71 ERA and an 8.27 K/9 this season while collecting 29 saves. "Obviously, Bobby is the closer," Williams said. "(Matt) Thornton can do a little bit of both, and now you have J.J. who also can do that. And everyone fills in behind them."

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, J.J. Putz's contract with the White Sox carries $3.25 million in performance-based incentives.
Putz will be given a base salary of $3 million in 2010. He can earn $250,000 with the right amount of appearances and another $3 million based on games finished. The 32-year-old had a lousy 5.22 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in a lost 2009 season with the Mets, but he posted a 3.89 ERA in '08 with the Mariners and a 1.38 ERA and 40 saves in 2007.

According to MLB.com's Noah Coslov, the White Sox have reached a one-year, $3 million deal with reliever J.J. Putz.
Putz, 32, posted an ugly 5.22 ERA and 1.64 WHIP during an injury-marred 2009, but the White Sox clearly believe he can rebound. He managed a 3.89 ERA in '08 with the Mariners and a 1.38 ERA and 40 saves in 2007.

Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago reports that the White Sox have made an offer for free agent reliever J.J. Putz.
The White Sox have been the most aggressive team for Putz, with multiple teams still interested, including the Cubs. The 32-year-old Putz worked out for the Cubs on Wednesday and will again on Friday. Levine writes that he could sign for a $2.5 base salary with another $6-7 million in incentives.
