Despite several reports that Allen Iverson was a near certainty to sign with the New York Knicks, the team has decided not to pursue him for the 2009-2010 season.
Team president Donnie Walsh seemed sold on Iverson but objections from coach Mike D'Antoni and chairman James L. Dolan swayed the decision. D'Antoni and Dolan cited Iverson's volatility and believed he would be too great of a risk to team chemistry. So much for Iverson giving fantasy teams an unexpected boost next week, although he could end up with another team soon. But the Knicks sure looked like the perfect place for Iverson this season.

 Allen Iverson-G - Grizzlies Nov. 19 - 9:38 pm et

TNT's David Aldridge reported Thursday that a source of his close to the Knicks' negotiations with Allen Iverson said that him signing was a "near certainty."
Aldridge offers an alternative viewpoint from other sources saying that the Knicks are still weighing the pros and cons, and that a decision is not close. While there are conflicting reports, there is enough smoke here to make this the likely destination for A.I. One source has said that a signing will not occur before Saturday's game, but it's entirely possible owners will be looking at prospect of using him in the Knicks' four-game week.

News that signing Allen Iverson may force the Knicks to move another player simultaneously could make this deal take several days to get done.
Iverson clears waivers at 6 p.m. Thursday, but signing him may involve moving another player - perhaps Chris Duhon - which will slow the process considerably. After indicating Wednesday that the Knicks would likely make Iverson an offer, on Thursday GM Donnie Walsh said that no decision had been reached, and one might not come soon. Stay tuned for updates.

With all signs pointing toward the Knicks signing Allen Iverson once he clears waivers at 6 p.m. on Thursday, the Miami Heat have become late entrants in the sweepstakes.
According to sources, the Heat are now "hot after" Iverson as well. That could be because they are not happy with Mario Chalmers' running of the offense, or because they simply want to make the Knicks pay more than the $1.4 million veteran's minimum they will likely offer. The Knicks are still in control here, as Iverson won't have to share the ball with Dwyane Wade in New York, while they still have a mid-level exception they can use if necessary. Then again, if AI wants to win a championship, he could decide to play in Miami if their interest is legitimate.

 Chris Duhon-G - Knicks Nov. 18 - 11:11 pm et

Chris Duhon, who left Wednesday's game briefly with an elbow injury, hit just 1-of-5 shots but did have six points and eight assists in a win over the Pacers.
Duhon's shooting woes this season are quickly becoming legendary, but relief may be coming soon. If Allen Iverson is signed by the Knicks, Duhon will quickly become an afterthought.

The Knicks sound interested in signing Allen Iverson and one team official said it was 50-50 that the team would pursue Iverson.
And as news keeps trickling out of the Garden (well, actually, Indianapolis, where the Knicks are playing on Wednesday night), it does sound like there's a decent chance the Knicks will attempt to sign him. As we said earlier, pick him up until we see how this plays out.
