Nationals named Jim Riggleman as manager.
Terms were not disclosed, but the interim tag has officially been removed. Riggleman took the reins after Manny Acta was fired in July and led the Nationals to a 33-42 record. Even with a seven-game winning streak to finish the season, the Nationals finished with a major-league worst 59-103 record. Riggleman was the favorite for the job all along, but the team also considered Bobby Valentine, Bob Melvin and Tim Foli.

Jim Riggleman will be named manager of the Nationals, according to Fox Sports' Jim Bowden.
Riggleman beat out Bobby Valentine for the position. Riggleman led the Nationals to a 33-42 record in 2009 as an interim manager. He appeared to be the favorite of GM Mike Rizzo from the outset.

The National League Gold Glove winners were announced on Wednesday, with Ryan Zimmerman of the Nationals taking home his first award.
Shane Victorino, Michael Bourn and Matt Kemp make up the outfield, while Zimmerman, Jimmy Rollins, Orlando Hudson and Adrian Gonzalez comprise the infield. Kemp and Bourn were both recognized for the first time. Yadier Molina took home his second straight Gold Glove behind the plate while teammate Adam Wainwright became the first pitcher besides Greg Maddux to win the NL Gold Glove since Mike Hampton in 2003. While the American League choices didn't come without some second guessing, the senior circuit did quite well with these selections.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Jim Riggleman is the clear front-runner to be named manager of the Nationals.
Riggleman and Bobby Valentine are the only known finalists for the gig and an announcement is expected on the position by the end of the week. Riggleman led the Nationals to a 33-42 record in 2009 as an interim skipper. He's already drawn praise this offseason from GM Mike Rizzo.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Bobby Valentine is a finalist to manage the Nationals.
Interim manager Jim Riggleman, who led the Nationals to a 33-42 record, is the other finalist. Hiring Valentine would be quite the splash, although his salary demands would be considerably higher than Riggleman. According to general manager Mike Rizzo, the Nationals are expected to make a decision by the end of the week.

The Nationals are expected to decide soon whether to remove the interim tag on manager Jim Riggleman.
"In talking to some people up in Washington," Riggleman said, "the feeling I'm getting is that there will be [something happening] between the General Managers' Meetings and the Winter Meetings." The Nationals are either keeping their managerial search under wraps or have not interviewed many candidates. Whatever the situation, Riggleman has been praised by the organization and seems likely to land the gig.
