Brewers purchased the contracts of OF Lorenzo Cain and RHP Amaury Rivas.
The moves protect Cain and Rivas from December's Rule 5 draft. Cain, 23, was limited to just 60 games in 2009 due a left knee injury, batting .218/.294/.330 between three levels in the Milwaukee organization, but he showed real promise in 2009. Rivas, who turns 24 in December, was 13-7 with a 2.98 ERA at Class A Brevard County in 2009, earning the organization's pitcher of the year award.

Top Brewers prospect Lorenzo Cain will not need surgery on his knee.
MRI results revealed a slight tear in Cain's posterior cruciate ligament, which is a much better injury to have compared with a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament. He will be out four-to-six weeks, at which point his knee should return to full health. This is great news as a serious ACL injury would have meant losing almost an entire season in his development.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Brewers prospect Lorenzo Cain could miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury in Double-A.
Cain was injured Thursday while attempting a diving catch and may have torn the MCL in his left knee, which would knock him out for 3-4 months. He'll scheduled to undergo an MRI exam Monday.

Double-A Huntsville's Lorenzo Cain went 0-for-4 in his season debut Monday.
Cain missed the first week and a half because of a hamstring injury suffered at the end of the spring.

With Tony Gwynn Jr. down and Ryan Braun off playing in the WBC, the Brewers have added Lorenzo Cain to their camp roster.
Cain is still slated to begin the season in Double-A, but he'll get some chances to impress the brass first. He could be one of the Brewers' September callups this year.
