Bills named Curtis Modkins offensive coordinator and running backs coach.
Modkins will take a backseat to offensive-minded Chan Gailey in terms of game planning, but hiring the former line coach is another indication that Buffalo will lean toward a run-first approach instead of the Pistol Spread Gailey installed in 2008 with Kansas City. While Fred Jackson figures to keep the starting job, the Bills will likely need two backs for the scheme to work, increasing the odds that Marshawn Lynch lasts another year.

 Fred Jackson-RB - Bills Jan. 20 - 10:05 am et

New Bills head coach Chan Gailey confirmed that he will call plays in 2010 even though he may hire an offensive coordinator.
Playcalling has always been his greatest asset. Gailey's arrival should make Fred Jackson excited. Backs like Bobby Humphrey, Jerome Bettis and Lamar Smith all flourished under Gailey, who is known for playing to his team's strength. It remains to be seen how Marshawn Lynch will be incorporated.

Fred Jackson became the first player in NFL history to rack up at least 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 yards on kickoff returns in the same season.
His 2,516 combined yards are the fourth highest total in NFL history. It's time to consider Jackson's starting job permanent as opposed to a temporary benching for Marshawn Lynch. While the roles won't be finalized until the new coach evaluates the backfield, F-Jax is clearly the superior player.

 Fred Jackson-RB - Bills Jan. 3 - 4:51 pm et

Fred Jackson ran for 212 yards on 33 carries and caught two passes for 15 yards and a touchdown as the Bills downed the "resting" Colts 30-7 in Week 17.
Nothing short of dominant after contact, Jackson was the best offensive player on either side in this game. Marshawn Lynch only got the ball twice. F-Jax wraps up his breakout year with 1,433 all-purpose yards and 46 catches while also serving as Buffalo's primary kickoff returner. The Bills' new coaching staff will determine whether Jackson will remain the team's featured back, but he's clearly Buffalo's most dynamic and versatile runner.
 Fred Jackson-RB - Bills Dec. 27 - 5:00 pm et

Fred Jackson rushed 13 times for just 39 yards and added two receptions for 14 yards against the Falcons in Week 16.
The Bills got down early and lost the time of possession battle, limiting F-Jax's touches. He still played the feature back role with Marshawn Lynch seeing just three carries. If Jackson is going to reach 1,000 rushing yards, he has to notch 150 on a Colts defense sure to be resting their starters next week.
 Fred Jackson-RB - Bills Dec. 23 - 9:11 am et

With the Bills now officially eliminated from the playoffs, Fred Jackson says he will talk to his offensive linemen about reaching a goal of 1,000 rushing yards.
Jackson is at 811 rushing yards right now. "With the struggles that our offensive line has gone through, that’s something they could be proud of if I’m able to get 1,000 yards," said Jackson. He's averaging 15.75 carries per game over the last four weeks and is a solid RB2 against the Falcons this week.
